pytlicek··on IBM Bob
And what? IDK about BOB that is available for IBM customers, but closed source? As someone wrote in different thread is based on VScode, calling BOB's API. Also do you know how chatgpt works? same for claude? Agents? Governance? You know nothing and now just hating here :)
pytlicek··on IBM Bob
rlly? cs it is IMHO based on anthropic / openai models. Perhaps they identified BFU and gave you some
pytlicek··on IBM Bob
Also copilot and MS365 copilot, many local models etc... Many haters (companies, etc...) can only dream about availability of models we usually have here.
pytlicek··on IBM Bob
I think this is it ^^^ Routing and optimizations :)
pytlicek··on IBM Bob
No
pytlicek··on IBM Bob
No no no :) They want(ed) just change :)
pytlicek··on IBM Bob
Not exactly like that, but something similar :)
pytlicek··on IBM Bob
No, you are wrong. IBMer here. I was at first agains it, my background is for 2 decades startup(s) before I joined IBM, and I started slowly using IBM Bob and I must say it is really good and helping. With many integrations that works :)
pytlicek··on Show HN: I made a down detector for down detector
I have similar project like this: https://hostbeat.info/ More like t uptime robot and sure, I was really surprised yesterday how many alerts I have got and how many notifications were sent yesterday for this system users. Good work anyway
pytlicek··on Milliondollarllm.com a pixel-style board focused on AI/LLM
I built https://milliondollarllm.com, a pixel-style public board inspired by the old “Million Dollar Homepage,” but focused on LLM and AI projects.

The idea:

Companies can pay for space for their LLM/AI product (1 USD = 1 pixel) and get a logo + link on the public board.

Each paying “sponsor” can choose one free/open project to endorse publicly.

Free projects get a small logo and description for free, and can be highlighted via a sponsor endorsement.

The goal is to make a simple, transparent way for companies to get a bit of visibility for their LLM/AI products, and at the same time, shine some light on smaller or open projects that deserve attention.

pytlicek··on Python 3.12
:) Oh, this is neat! Python 3.12.0 has brought some cool features to the table. I'm particularly keen on the flexible f-string parsing and the performance improvements. The new type annotation syntax for generic classes is a nice touch too. It's always good to see Python getting refined with each release. Looking forward to exploring these new additions...

pytlicek··on Ivy ML Transpiler and Framework
Ivy is both an ML transpiler and a framework, currently supporting JAX, TensorFlow, PyTorch and Numpy.

Ivy unifies all ML frameworks enabling you not only to write code that can be used with any of these frameworks as the backend, but also to convert any function, model or library written in any of them to your preferred framework!

pytlicek··on Nintendo Switch successor reportedly due late 2024
I find myself in a bit of a quandary over the upcoming Nintendo Switch release slated for this fall. Having navigated my way from the Switch Lite to the standard Switch, and now being confronted with the OLED model, I can't help but feel a sense of continuity, rather than any groundbreaking advancement. I revel in the games, no doubt about it, but the purported 'improvements' haven't sparked any significant eureka moments for me. Each upgrade has cost me an additional 100-150 euros, yet the experience, albeit slightly enhanced, doesn't seem to justify the price tag. I'm left questioning, is the elusive "it's better" worth it? What are your thoughts, fellow gamers?
pytlicek··on Python F-Strings Are More Powerful Than You Might Think
Nice article! Thank you Martin :) I didn't know about Date and Time Formatting or Nested F-Strings.
pytlicek··on Man is making Electricity out of Electricity
Maybe a SW upgrade by Elon / Tesla will suffice :)

def power_up(battery_pover_in): voltage_in = abs(battery_pover_in) voltage_up = battery_pover_in * 1.5 return voltage_up

pytlicek··on Ask HN: Which e-Reader do you use and why?
Veery old Kindle keyboard, but Santa will bring me Kindle Paperwhite 5. I like it a lot, easy to manipulate, battery life, ecosystem around ebooks. Works always and as expected.
pytlicek··on Do you ever avoid submitting something on HN so devs won't ruin it?
Sometimes. But a lot of people around me - yes.
pytlicek··on Ewa Jodlowska's last day as executive director of The PSF
Under twitter post people write nice answers, best wishes, stories, & support for her to see.

Thank you very much Ewa, for the wonderful work you have done at Python Software Foundation and for the whole Python community. Best wishes on your new projects and I wish you the best for your future :)

pytlicek··on Show HN: FastAPI Feature Flags
I created this package because I needed to turn on and off some features on my personal projects. I mainly use it in GeoSearch.dev, where I can control the flow of matching engine at runtime. I don't think anyone needs to explain how feature flags work.

I already use the package in production, but there is still room for improvement. I hope you will like it.

pytlicek··on Bar-tailed Godwits regularly travel more than 7,000 miles non-stop
Just WOW! I am very fascinated by how nature has perfected it, in some aspects.
pytlicek··on WhatsApp end-to-end encrypted backups security assessment
I completely forgot about this issue :) I'm glad someone was interested in looking at how those backups work. Perhaps my complaints also contributed to this investigation :)))
pytlicek··on GeoSearch.dev – Convert any data to GeoData

pytlicek··on GeoSearch.dev – Convert any data to GeoData
Transform any unstructured text data into meaningful geo data. Get geolocation data such as Country, State, City, Coordinates, or Timezone.

The service is not perfect and is still being worked on. But I think it can help someone.

pytlicek··on David Beazley Keynote at PyData Global, Oct 28th 2021
Like it too! Thanks for sharing :)
pytlicek··on First Impressions with the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W
Nice article, well written. I like Alex's approach and I like that I have found all the information I wanted to know about this new shiny board :) Keep up the good work alexellisuk :)
pytlicek··on 5 side projects in 6 years, earning $0
Yes, they do. I did admin work a long time ago and mostly it was planned to have information about the connection, in case they have a dynamic IP. It works reliably to this day.
pytlicek··on 5 side projects in 6 years, earning $0
Absolutely agree with you, 5 users here, 5 there and you will have hundreds in 1 year, 500 after 2 years and so on... This happened to me with my side project hostbeat.info. I have started it bcs some of my friends wanted this kind of service. Then I have realized that I can do it as a multi-user SaaS. I was expecting thousands of users in the first month, still don't know why :) (perhaps I made it free of charge?) Made a post on 3-4 forums/discussions, etc... scaled my server to handle load almost to 10.000 daily active users. And.... 2 registrations happened in the first month. This was not expected and hit me hard. But later on, as you write, it started to gain some traction. One user per week, 2, then 3 users. Sometimes 2 new per day, the other day or week or month nothing. Sometimes I am surprised that some big player on the IT market has registered and is also actively using it (2 largest telco operators in DE and AT fe.) I don't care anymore about profit or userbase. I'm happy with it as is and sometimes users are sending me emails and thanking me for such service.
pytlicek··on EdgelessDB: A Database Designed for Confidential Computing
Not bad. Runtime protection of the data is really good/useful. Lets see where this project will go :)
pytlicek··on Who else sees their deleted messages on WhatsApp that shouldn't be there?
Who knows. I use PiHole where all DNS records are cached (not chats, nor messages). Maybe this is the reason why it happens to me. And regards Twitter (obviously), I'm not the only one who is facing this weird behaviour.
