qu4ku··on Economists are revising their views on robots and jobs
Yes you can, and it is pretty easy. Build.

Every single, new building puts downward pressure on the average price. The moment supply outstrips demand, prices goes down, housing market stops being reasonable asset, money outflows causing further collapse of the market and houses are dirt cheap.

qu4ku··on How to handle difficult clients
There is no such thing as "one reasonable price". You may value your time arbitrarily high and don't need explanation for that, and there may be someone that value money arbitrarily low and has literally random reason to hire you.

This checks as long you give your rate/price upfront. This would be a scam if you DO the work and THEN charge non-market rate/price.

qu4ku··on How to handle difficult clients
Well, there are people charging $100/h around here — do you think they are scammers because there are others that charge $10/h?

You literally can set arbitrary price to your time and at worst there won't be anyone willing to pay it.

> Anyone like Lyn Alden that is offering premium stock tips is by definition a fraud

I've been reading everything I could on economy and finance in my early twenties and Lyn Alden blog is the only thing I needed then and wasn't available. She is pure gold — I know no one that is able to explain complex topics in this context with such clarity.

qu4ku··on Making the dislike count private across YouTube
Ministry of Truth found dislike button not helpful.
qu4ku··on UK 'heading towards digital skills shortage disaster'
There is no such thing as IT skills shortage. There is a shortage of skills in some manual labour sectors, where you need to wait a few weeks to do the job because there is not a single (even non-)competent person WILLING to do the job.

There is no shortage of skills in markets where employers can filter people by 'culture fit'.

qu4ku··on Police are requesting data from smart speakers
The thing is it doesn't need to record anything (to spy on you).

Voice recognition is 'on' all the time as it needs to recognise 'keyword'. All you need then is simple transcription into text.

qu4ku··on DigitalOcean's Hacktoberfest Is Hurting Open Source
My pet theory is that 'marketing oneself' trend is a sign of oversaturation (and forthcoming commoditisation).

This happen a few years back in UI design when designers started to put more work into presentation of projects than projects themselves.

qu4ku··on The effects on cognition of sleeping 4 hours per night for 12-14 days
This may be anecdotal [and sleep deprivation may impact different people differently] but it has a huge impact on me.

I used to use memrise [flash card style memorisation] to learn new words/concepts for years [25minutes, the first thing after waking up, every single day] and I know from experience how sleep, food, hangover, etc. impact my performance.

Sleep has a gigantic impact on my memory, focus and creativity — I believe it is responsible for really high variation in IQ points [10 - 20, but that's my rough guesstimate]. This is a more qualitative assessment but whey I sleep 4 hours it resembles a high level of depression — I lose motivation and all of my natural curiosity is gone [eg. usually, reading/learning brings me happiness, but it's all gone when I'm sleep deprived].

That's why I haven't used an alarm clock for years now.

qu4ku··on Remote work can also be a source of socioeconomic inequality
But that is not what is going to happen. Jobs that can't be done remotely will be +/- constant — that's a simplification as there will be some second-order consequences like movements in real estate prices in both directions. Jobs that can be done remotely will become less lucrative [reasons above]. [There may be some second-order consequences like the unlocking of innovation, but that's speculative and hard to estimate economic impact here].

I have a personal, sad and rather extreme theory — anything that can be done remotely will be commoditized. But that's another story.

qu4ku··on Remote work can also be a source of socioeconomic inequality
This article got its central point not only wrong but patently wrong.

Remote work puts downward pressure on the highest salaries [think globalisation but on a smaller scale — poor countries are main beneficiaries of globalisation]. People with a low amount of opportunities will have more opportunities [upward pressure] and the highest earners will need to compete with higher number of people [downward pressure].

It literally decreases inequality.

The article points out that there is a difference in earnings and higher-earning jobs can be done remotely more often, which is not that valuable insight itself but it is meaningless in the context of inequality. People that have jobs that can't be done remotely are 'constant' in this equation — their situation won't change meaningfully.

qu4ku··on I got my first $50/mo customer
I'm not gonna lie. From the perspective of somebody that commits every day with purpose, this is even more scammy then selling email spam-list. This invalidates my hard work.
