> Also India has millions of muslims (or christians) whom you can deny citizenship because it is a "foreign" religion :)
This is blatantly false. The CAA only applies to new immigrants that apply for citizenship. No where in the CAA law it is mentioned that existing citizens can be stripped of their citizenship due to their religion or any other reason.
This is not twitter or reddit. Please stop spreading lies, FUD and conjecture here.
> Please read and educate yourself. https://cjp.org.in/why-the-caanprnrc-is-a-toxic-cocktail-for...
I have read that before. It talks about a deadly cocktail of 3 laws, CAA, NPC, NRC. Out of these, the nation-wide NPC and NRC laws don't exist, even in very rough drafts. So I am really not sure from where the author of this piece is drawing all his conjecture from. It also re-repeats some same half-facts about CAA that I dismissed above. Maybe the author is time-travelling mind-reader who knows more about some future laws that even the law-writers don't know about?
> >Perhaps you can give examples from these three houses that is anti-muslim propaganda?
> maybe this might help you. Its a well explained piece https://theprint.in/opinion/indian-media-waging-holy-war-aga...
Let's dissect this piece step by step.
1. I mentioned the three big media houses by viewership (NDTV, AajTak, Times Now.) Two of them are not mentioned in this piece, so the "all media houses are controlled" statement falls flat right here.
2. This is not an well researched journalism piece. It not even a journalism piece at all. It's an explicitly stated opinion piece that is presented as such. No one in the world considers an opinion piece as a fact. This is what an actual, well researched fact filled piece looks like[1], with all specific facts and details. If you can produce a detailed piece of journalism like this proving your point, then I will believe you.
3. Even if we consider this opinion piece as not opinion, it is very light on facts. It does not mention any specific big government produced propaganda pieces that are being pushed. It talks about some media (not all) houses talking about some issues to gain ratings. But that is not 24/7 government controlled propaganda. Not even close to the old Triumph of Will standards, never mind all the modern spectacle that is possible today with technology.

How is that problematic? Many religions originated in India. Don't these people have the right to come back and get accelerated citizenship for their homeland if they are persecuted in other countries?
Also very importantly, the CAA does not prohibit Muslim immigrants from seeking citizenship [1]. Which is what you are suggesting here. And it is patently false [1]. So please desist from spreading lies here.
A gentle reminder that Israel also does the same. So why are you holding Israel and India to different standards?

> They have effectively captured all media houses and they telecast blatant anti Muslim propaganda 24/7
The biggest media houses (by viewership count) in India are NDTV, AajTak, Times Now. I view them daily and I don't see any anti-muslim propaganda 24/7. Perhaps you can give examples from these three houses that is anti-muslim propaganda?
Isn't supporting persecuted minorities with no other homeland than India something that the government of India should do? Israel does it by giving citizenship to all persecuted incoming Jews and there seem to be no complains about that so not sure why India is demonized for doing the same.
Also, most of the mentions of CAA never explain exactly what is discriminatory in the law[2]. It only accelerates the citizenship process for religions that originate in India. Not sure what is discriminatory about that?

It's clear from reading the article that the real issue in the article is not Mars or Earth or Carl Sagan, it's Elon Musk. Or more specifically, the complete lack of respect Elon publicly gives to elite media.
I just set my phone to DnD with calls allowed and notifications silenced, and it works wonders. Maybe it should be the default?
So did Modi. His victory in elections was accepted by all his rivals as fair and square.
> But Modi's rule is dictatorship.
How is it a dictatorship? Modi won fair and square in an election conceded by all his rivals. If you don't like him, then vote him out. If you cannot vote him out, then you can claim to it being a dictatorship.
But you can go and vote him out. And sorry, the majority of the country not accepting your views to vote him out is democracy, not dictatorship.
So you are claiming that the video in the comment above is fake? That the sword was photoshopped in as part of a misinformation exercise? If you are claiming this, then it sounds something straight out of an Indian QAnon conspiracy theory.
> I have family there so I can confirm.
I happen to live there myself. So I can confirm that these sword wielding protesters were attacking policemen armed with sticks (Indian policemen are not armed with lethal weapons). I saw this happening from my own window with my own eyes.
That is false. These reforms are decades in the making with just about everyone opposing these laws now had advocated for it. Case in point, take a look at this tweet from BKU (the union leading these protests) - https://twitter.com/BKU_KisanUnion/status/110167401066691379...
In the above tweet, the farmers union is demanding that these vert farms laws should be implemented. Then after the government did that, they started protesting what they were demanding in the first place. And this is not the only incident.
Second case in point - here is what the Congress and AAP (the principle opposition parties leading the protests) promised to do if they were elected in the elections in 2019 - https://www.indiatoday.in/news-analysis/story/a-tale-of-u-tu...
So how come everyone demanding these laws is now protesting against the same laws? Common sense would dictate that the protests are not due to these laws. They are political in nature, where these laws are used as a shield to help legitimise these protests
I am tired of seeing these prof-less posts of genocide (and Jio/Ambani) being posted in every India related thread on HN. If you claim that there is a genocide going on, then please post proofs of the genocide. If a genocide in the remotest region of China can have proofs, then surely the ones in India do too?
And even if the general populace had a feeling about this, it mostly turned negative after the shameful happenings on 26th January (India's Republic Day, the day the constitution of independent India was applied). These "protesters" carried out a raid similar to the US Capitol attack. And with that, any public support evaporated exactly like in the US
If I buy a product or a service, and it is defective or not what what was promised or not upto mark, I have the right to complain about it. Shutting down my valid complains because it would create an overrepresented proportion of negative reviews is downright wrong.
I have been on wsb subreddit and discord server for a long time. There has been zero change in the culture or the type of content or the tone of the conversations in all that while, right uptill the discord server was banned. Either these platforms knew there was bad content but did nothing, or they know there is no bad content but are using it as a flimsy excuse to help out their fellow Harvard MBA's.
Ironically the orange man would be the one laughing at all of this today.
A lot of people just want to lead normal lives with their friends and family. I envy them. Truly.
It won't be sudden but is is happening. And it is only going to be accelerated by the footgun behaviour going around on twitter and Facebook this week
Gutenberg is react based client side thing. The lags while typing in Gutenberg cannot be due to the server.
On a more serious note though, I have personally experienced the lags on Gutenberg. And I am not sure whether the issue is with some implementation issues or due to the fact that it is a 3 mb react based blob.
So instead of a democratically elected US Govt dropping freedom from a 1 billion bomber on a 10$ tent, A bunch of hippies in a small part of the US should use the power of social media to control and direct conversation, culture and world events like some sort of a uber-exclusive shady techbro-illuminati?
The problem is genuine but any solution involving tech would only worsen the problem
Zuck got around that problem copying competitors lock, stock and barrel and using his monopoly to attempt drive out that competition.
Instagram was under threat by two "It" networks. Both of them ended up being copied in Instagram
Facebook needs to be broken up into three companies to fix it all.
But overtime, especially when people of different cultures and languages interact, things can become twisted and lost in incorrect translations, whether through genuine error, any inherent biases of the translator or malicious intent.
And also overtime, cultures can evolve in response or in interactions with outside forces (especially the Islamic and later European invaders over a 1000 year period) that would seek to implement their own hierarchies and systems. Infact, the indigenous Indians were treated as second class citizens in empires established by outside invaders (Jaziya collection is common example of this).
But what generally makes the system as being attributed to the British is due to the Divide and Conquer strategy implemented by the British. Dividing the populace becomes a lot easier if you can mutate or deepen existing lines in the system.
But truthfully, the exact lineage is very hard to find, especially for a culture that is not only 5000+ years old but has also been interacting with and assimilating just about every other global culture during that 5000 years period (Indians have been interacting with everyone from Chinese, SE Asians, Romans, Greeks, Persians, Mesopotomians, Africans, Arabs, Ancient Egyptians, Turkic Nomads, etc)
The only place left for good recommendations is the same place that was good for it all those years ago - closed small niche forums (discord servers fill that gap nowdays) and personal recommendations by people you know in real life
That's a weird statement to make, considering that the current PM is a self-made man without any old money, family name or ivy league connections. Infact, most of the high ranking people in his cabinet are self-made men like him. The current Home Minister of India for example started his career as a polling-booth level canvasser in the party.
If a poor self-made man rising to the top in free and fair elections (results accepted by everyone) is a murder of democracy, then you need to find the correct definition of democracy.
