r00fus··on Minnesota judge holds federal attorney in civil contempt
If he's held in contempt, it's an excuse to stop doing the things he probably personally disagrees with anyway (since the government is essentially a rogue actor). At least the poor overworked soul will get some rest
r00fus··on Rivian R2: Electric Mid-Size SUV
I rented a BYD M9 PHEV minivan while on vacation in Cancun, Mexico and other than the vehicle winning over my family in, like 2 days, the mileage was amazing. 1000km range, of which, 180km was battery (that's 520mi of gas + 100mi battery range).

PHEVs in the US are gimped by poor regulatory incentives - we should be forcing manufacturers to increase overall range + EV range. If this model were sold in the US by a US manufacturer, I bet the ranges would be halved (and still considered good/decent in comparison to existing alternatives).

r00fus··on Semaglutide improves knee osteoarthritis independant of weight loss
If you don't have a regime that supports the medication, you could suffer some real problems. Drinking a LOT of water is mandatory. As well as eating lots of fiber - like good p-fruits (plum/pear/peach/etc) or benefiber/laxative.

I've had no problems following the advice of my weight loss program and r/Zepbound etc.

r00fus··on Semaglutide improves knee osteoarthritis independant of weight loss
Have you considered tirzepatide (ie, Zepbound/Mounjaro)? I know several people who responded poorly to Wegovy who did great on Zep.
r00fus··on The US is flirting with its first-ever population decline
Capitalist systems (even used in moderation by China) based on Keynesian economics relies on constant growth.
r00fus··on Tesla profit tanked 46% in 2025
Except Apple ditched their firebrand founder to fumble it all. In Tesla's case they are tied to the hip of their "founder" and are fumbling it.

Stonk still high though so...

r00fus··on Thomas Piketty: 'The reality is the US is losing control of the world'
They should but they're not. They are also controlled by the interests that control the US.

Europe could be relevant again if it only embraced China and gave NATO the finger.

r00fus··on Apple’s head of user interface design, Alan Dye, will join Meta
Non-skeuomorphic style simply allowed for easier adaptation to varying screen sizes that iOS devices were beginning to adopt at the time.
r00fus··on Russia Bans Roblox
What form of government do you think we live in? Where laws are routinely ignored by our "leadership" and bribery is essentially legal and we have our own "oligarchs"?

The US initiates wars and supports war crimes as policy - dictatorship? We're far beyond that.

r00fus··on Secret Boat Strike Memo Justifies Kills by Claiming Targeting Drugs, Not People
You can at least remove the pursestrings from the executive by changing Congress from the rubber-stamp it currently is.
r00fus··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
DeBlasio froze rent (for rent-stabilized apartments just like Zohran is proposing) for 3 straight years. Nothing new here.

Combining it with streamlining city approval process and building more actual city development will actually stabilize the rent across the market.

r00fus··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
Zohran will be the kingmaker is what I infer @dluan is trying to say.
r00fus··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
> My biggest doubts are around the idea of price controls,

DeBlasio froze rent for rent-stabilized units for 3 years straight. Literally everything Mamdani campaigned on is entirely possible and funding straightforward.

Not easy, but emminently doable.

r00fus··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
You are confusing a 2-way race with a 3-way race. Mamdani could've won with a lot less than 50% (since there was no ranked choice - and even if it was, I doubt any Sliwa voter would have given Cuomo any 2nd place votes).

The fact that he cleared 50% in a 3-way race is itself a mandate.

r00fus··on Solar energy is now the world's cheapest source of power, study finds
Sodium Ion looks far more promising for home or industrial scale battery storage.
r00fus··on Gold Prices Top $4k for First Time
> All 4 of those facts cannot remain true indefinitely.

What is the root cause of all of this? BRICS has an alternative to SWIFT (not identically but functionally).

If you feel that the multipolar world is a fad, sure, gold will come down. I somehow doubt it.

r00fus··on Rivian CEO Doubles Down on Decision to Not Offer Apple CarPlay
Cancelled my R2 reservation just now. Seriously why ditch even basic CarPlay?
r00fus··on Israel took control of Gaza cellphones to stream PM Netanyahu's UN Speech live
If true...
r00fus··on U.S. hits new low in World Happiness Report
Mexico is finally shedding their neoliberal order and getting stuff built and people taken care of (instead of foreign investors). President Sheinbaum has like an 80% approval rating.
r00fus··on U.S. hits new low in World Happiness Report
> During the first two years of Biden's presidency the Democrats had a tied 50–50 Senate (including 2 prima donna Senators who repeatedly undermined Democrats' legislative priorities) and a narrow House majority.

Look up the Senate Parliamentarian and how the Democrats used them as an excuse to not get anything done.

They could have played hardball with their rogue Senators but they didn't.

r00fus··on Microsoft blocks Israel’s use of its tech in mass surveillance of Palestinians
Israel is now damaged goods. You interact with them at a reputational cost. It's only going to get worse as they don't seem to want to stop the genocide.
r00fus··on I want an iPhone Mini-sized Android phone (2022)
The 12 mini and 13 mini had very substandard batteries compared to the mainline version or the SE.

There are a lot of people who probably would've bought the mini but instead of opted for the SE because battery life degraded so quickly.

r00fus··on Trump deploys National Guard as Los Angeles protests against immigration agents
Most of the new ICE agents are just militia members in government clothing. Now they get paid to do what they've been doing before.
r00fus··on Apple introduces a universal design across platforms
Bingo. It seems like the same mistakes made by MS in the 2000s when they prioritized a touch interface onto devices without them... why is Apple so desperate to make Vision happen?
r00fus··on Trump threatens to cut Musk's government contracts, escalating their public feud
The Dems are so cringe RN, courting him: https://www.politico.com/news/2025/06/05/elon-musk-democrats...
r00fus··on Show HN: AirAP AirPlay server – AirPlay to an iOS Device
Any suggestions for such apps? I'm planning using something like this for a silent disco...
r00fus··on WeightWatchers files bankruptcy
Were you on a program that focused on diet/exercise changes? Did any of those habit changes stick?
r00fus··on WeightWatchers files bankruptcy
Most programs that rely on GLP-1 meds also stress that lifestyle changes are needed to not only really lose weight, but also to keep that weight change once you stop taking the medication (or go to a maintenance dosage).

I'm taking the meds right now - what the medication allows me to understand is that without changing your sleep, exercise and diet, I simply won't be very successful even while on the meds.

r00fus··on Trump announces 100% tariffs on movies ‘produced in foreign lands’
You got it. All he ever does is shakedowns.
r00fus··on Trump announces 100% tariffs on movies ‘produced in foreign lands’
Yeah, Trump's a real leftist!
