r0fl··on Show HN: HackerBooks – HackerTube, but for books mentioned on HN
It's hosted on cloudflare. The CDN there can handle millions of hits per day without breaking a sweat.
r0fl··on HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN
I've wanted to build something like this forever but was always told it would break copyright rules.

Is this okay because there is no monetization of any sort or am I missing something?

r0fl··on Show HN: AI Knows Us – see who ChatGPT and Perplexity recommend instead of you
I built a version of this before for dentists and the api is not the same answer you get when you are logged in and chat has memory and history about you
r0fl··on Gemini 4 Carbon
I cannot figure out how to use anything better than 3.1 pro even on a paying account. There’s 3.8 flash and 3.5 flashlight. I can’t figure out which one is better so I’ve given up trying. It’s just too confusing. there’s too much competition for this type of confusion for the customer.
r0fl··on GPT-6.1 Terra
I cannot figure it out either. I use Astra Ultra to plan and 6.1Sol High or X-High to build and even on huge projects with 10s of 1000s of pages it is fast and competent
r0fl··on OLED iPad Mini
That was a joke lol Tipping culture is so insane in North America
r0fl··on New iPad mini
Old people

I’m buying one for my parents and in-laws

They have iPads

iPads are never charged and in some random spot in their being empty houses

This will make sure my kids can FaceTime their grandparents whenever they want

That’s worth $300 to make my kids and my parents happy

r0fl··on OLED iPad Mini
Yes, Apple iPad minis are luxury goods
r0fl··on OLED iPad Mini
Isn’t all that potential shown off in the duo?
r0fl··on New iPad mini
8.7% annual inflation is pretty high but most luxury goods have kept up with that

Check Porsche 911 / Boxster pricing in Canada over those years or Chanel bags

Luxury inflation > normal inflation

r0fl··on The new iPad mini
I saw a lot of people say the homeview is stupid, they can get an iPad and a dock

The homeview at $299 is the great value Apple product by far, compared to the price of new iPads

The 512 nano texture iPad mini with a case and pencil and Apple care and tax and tip in Canada is well over $2000!!!

r0fl··on Show HN: Call4me – a ChatGPT plugin that lets it make phone calls on your behalf
Those are easy solves

Ai doesn’t say it’s you it says it’s calling on behalf of you

Can get the boring stuff out of the way and connect you once it’s time to resolve. I was recently on hold with purolator for 45 minutes and then another 10 minutes to give my tracking number and explain what the issue is before even beginning to try to resolve that

It’s insane that anyone needs to wait that long!!!!!

Agent doesn’t need to have access to all those things and if it does it can easily be given specific access for specific tasks like calls

Calling to get terrible service like Purolator leaving a stove in the middle of a driveway on the wrong day making it impossible for an old person to leave their driveway should not take an hour to resolve. An ai should be able to do that for me.

r0fl··on Show HN: Call4me – a ChatGPT plugin that lets it make phone calls on your behalf
Why not answer using ai instead?
r0fl··on Show HN: Steal My Bitcoin
Why not host on cloudflare that could handle endless traffic even on the free tier?
r0fl··on Show HN: Roadkill – a zombie car game inspired by the original GTA's driving
I love the origins GTA

This is awesome but I wish there was a boost or have this be 5x faster, like “killfrenzy” from forever ago

r0fl··on Waymo in Toronto
People on forums will complain about everything!

I learn this each time Apple releases a product. New iPhones could be $500, 10x the speed, half the weight and full week battery life and a fringe loud group will post and upvote some dumb complaint.

r0fl··on Apple HomeView
Specifically, Article 6(7) of the EU's Digital Markets Act, which forces Apple to give competing companies access to the same hardware and software capabilities it uses itself.

The EU's interpretation means Apple must provide third-party AI assistants with access comparable to Siri's, potentially including the ability to interact with messages, files, purchases and other apps.

Apple proposed a secure intermediary called Trusted System Agent and an 18-month implementation plan. The European Commission rejected those proposals.

r0fl··on Apple HomeView
I just bought an iPad Pro in Canada

It was $2800 with tax and a keyboard!

Nothing wrong with iPads They are just expensive

This is $350 in Canada. Literally free compared to everything else Apple sells!

r0fl··on Apple HomeView
At $299 they’ll sell millions of these in no time

The Apple TV is the same price

iPhones and iPads are so expensive these days that this feels like a steal

I’m buying one for my parents and one for my in-laws for Christmas. Easy $300 gift that I know they won’t have.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who will have that idea

r0fl··on Apple HomeView
Maybe Apple just doesn't care to put up with the silly EU rules.
r0fl··on Why isn't the industry freaking out about DeepSeek 4.1 Flash?
Any proof of 100x spend? That seems a bit excessive
r0fl··on Show HN: Teacher Planner – A digital planbook with AI tools for teachers
People are still vibe coding sites with purple font?
r0fl··on Show HN: I built a calendar where each event has its own tasks
Cool idea I've been toying with the idea of a better calendar and vibe coded a few different ones for myself

Recently I realized that scheduled ChatGPT connected to my calendar and an inbox is better than anything else I could ever build or anything that is out on the market.

It knows my schedule, it knows if anything has come up via email that should change my schedule and tells me and I email myself anything that comes to mind and it schedules it in an optimized manner and automatically reschedules based on if I did that thing or not.

I'm excited to see what DOTS brings to the table.

The large LLMs will swallow up all these calendar microsaas ideas imo.

r0fl··on My weird new hobby: Wandering around Tokyo on Google Maps
You should book a flight to Iceland and see them in person. It’s a great place to visit!

Take the adventure, life is short!

r0fl··on iPhone Duo
Just buy an iPhone duo and never open it.
r0fl··on iPhone Duo
The data shows that people want to consume video content on their phones So bigger screens are better

That is it. Nothing else.

r0fl··on iPhone Duo
5 different people messaged me today saying they are pre ordering a duo

None of those people have ever messaged me about any other phone event ever

r0fl··on iPhone Duo
Only duo thousand dollars

Great branding by the new CEO

r0fl··on Apple Watch Series 12
That was my same thought! Brands I have never heard of that can't make a call, send messages or add a reminder popping up like they invented sliced bread.

We get it, some people don't want to charge a watch even though they have to regularly charge their phone, headphones, laptop and maybe car. Such a weird flex that a watch lasts an extra few days, who cares?! Charge it while you shower and you're good to go

r0fl··on Apple Watch Series 12
Coros cannot reply to imessages, cannot add to reminders, cannot add to calendar, cannot place a call from the watch

Yeah, sounds amazing /s
