rampatra··on ChatGPT and Codex usage limits merging
I am anecdotally speaking and sharing my experience. I have the Pro and Max plans in OpenAI and Claude respectively. And, I end up working with Opus 5.5 all the time.

I agree with you to some extent when you say the models may switch occasionally…

You’re in fact making my point right. And, in order for this switch to happen in favor of OpenAI, they have to improve theirs, especially when it comes to UI design. I find Opus 5.5 to be better in this discipline.

Currently, the models as-is, I spend way more time (iterating) doing the same coding tasks with Sol/Astra than with Opus.

Lastly, I read the same story from 100s of other developers on X so I can say it’s just not my experience. OpenAI for sure may be good at other tasks but for coding tasks, I see most of my connections using Opus 5.5.

Claude is already way superior in coding than Open AI atm. So coders are mostly using Claude.

With this change even non-coders will jump ship. Not sure why OpenAI is doing this now. They should improve their models now to match the competition.

rampatra··on HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN
Ah, I like this idea. I also had a different thought of accessing YouTube content in the sense I wanted to know all the tech live streams happening today on a particular topic.
rampatra··on Show HN: Marelleo, an open-source story box I built for my kids using ESP32
Btw I just discovered https://confetti.build and YC backs it. Have a look, you’ll love it.
rampatra··on Show HN: Marelleo, an open-source story box I built for my kids using ESP32
I am mostly into software my whole life. I want to dabble with hardware and electronics in the future and this post taught me many things that’ll be very useful when I do.

Tnx for writing every bit of the building process in an easy to understand way and also open sourcing it.

I liked the look of your box too. Keep up!

rampatra··on Show HN: DashPane v2, a macOS app switcher and launcher
Another thing I noticed. The website looks vide coded. Nothing wrong with it but my suggestion would be to give the LLM a good reference design and polish it a bit.
rampatra··on Show HN: DashPane v2, a macOS app switcher and launcher
Looks good. Just fyi, if you're running a launch offer or some other offer, you can list your app for free on www.apps.deals

rampatra··on Show HN: Libredesk – self-hosted, single binary Intercom/Zendesk alternative
Looks very clean to me. I wish I could deploy it to Cloudflare Workers or Vercel. Any plans for this?
rampatra··on Show HN: CyberWriter – a .md editor built on Apple's (barely-used) on-device AI
Love that your landing page is the product itself. However, I think the app icon and the screenshots on the App Store can be improved that will lead to better downloads.

Wow this is interesting, however, the reward seems way too less to me.
rampatra··on Discovering the indieweb with calm tech
Learned so many things from this post -- calm tech, StreetPass, and BlogQuest. Thank you!

This is such a wonderful thought. A great way to recognize the efforts put up by people in the community that often goes unnoticed and unappreciated.
rampatra··on Ask HN: Those with money-making side projects, how did you come up with the idea?
I made a mac app called Presentify (https://presentify.compzets.com) just at the right time when covid started and when most were working remotely.

I had this idea well before covid because when I was explaining something to others over a call (via screen share) I wished I had something to draw on the screen and highlight a few things to articulate my thoughts better. However, I never invested time to develop an app for this until Covid. This remote work saved me travel time which I decided to utilise to make the app.

So, in short, I got the idea from the problem I faced personally. Luckily, I received overwhelming response from Hacker News (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22938604) and Reddit community and this has encouraged me to invest more time to the app and make it better.

You can give Presentify (screen annotation) app on Mac a try and see how it works for you.

Disclosure: I made this app.

rampatra··on Ask HN: How do I try out GPT-3?
Never mind, found it at last. Here is the link: https://beta.openai.com.

In other words, the link I pasted in the post is the correct one.

rampatra··on Ask HN: How do I try out GPT-3?
I am seeing 100s of GPT-3 demos around the internet now and wanted to give it a try. Ergo, asking here.
rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
Haha, I did that once while I was testing the app and our video conferencing app froze for a couple of mins :)
rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
Thanks for the comment. Sure, I would be more than happy to chat. You can get in touch with me via the chat widget on the website https://presentify.compzets.com/

Looking forward to it.

You're welcome :) Hope you enjoy using it!
rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
Sorry, I haven't used the app and can't find much from the limited screenshots on the app store. But from whatever is available I see it has a timer and Presentify has a cursor highlighter instead.

The different shapes are coming in the next release to Presentify so I am not considering it for the comparison now.

rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
Thanks a lot for the feedback. It won't now and it never will in the future because I too hate that :)
rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
May I ask what's the harm with Mac's native screenshot taker? Even if I include it in Presentify, you would have to press a hotkey to capture so, from a user experience point of view I do not see a difference.
rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
I am not sure how the payment thing would work on homebrew. I will have to look at this.
rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
This app also has the feature to automatically erase your drawings on the screen. Check Preferences. However, it doesn't have the fade animation. Will add it soon.

And, thanks a lot for the compliment :)

rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
Thanks for the feedback.

I will be implementing the 2nd and 3rd in the next release. 1st one I can do after. I can increase the size of the pen color selectors.

rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
I will add the eraser later but I am going to add undo/redo feature in the next release so that may be helpful to you in the meanwhile.

And, thanks for the compliment.

rampatra··on Show HN: I made a macOS app to let me draw on the screen while on video calls
Hello, sorry for the late reply. Yes, when you draw you cannot operate on other applications. Apple restricts it. There is a workaround for this but if I go with that then the app won't be sandboxed(meaning it can't be published to the app store anymore).

The button on the menu bar should work as only the visible screen is where the annotation takes place. If in case it doesn't work for some reason, you can always use the keyboard shortcut control+option+A to toggle annotate feature.

Hope this helps!
