randyrand··on How tall can you build with 54 Jenga blocks?
Jenga blocks are intentionally non-uniform thickness.
randyrand··on Britain to make salary disclosure in job ads mandatory
I'm on the other side also. There really is no minimum, only a maximum. But most often, I'd get cold feet before paying anywhere near the maximum.
randyrand··on Britain to make salary disclosure in job ads mandatory
As a small employer, I don't mind to provide a number. I'll always provide a number if I have one in mind.

But anything intellectual, me providing a number is not as useful as you think. Often, I just don't know. Especially hiring outside my expertise.

I assume every applicant is worth $0 and it's up to them to convince me otherwise. I'm willing to go as high as you can convince me. .

randyrand··on [dead]
Unsurprisingly. These political beliefs are ubiquitous.
randyrand··on California Gov Newsom commutes death sentences for all 548 people on death row
You can do both they are not opposites.
randyrand··on How AI may drive union-resistant tech workers to the bargaining table
Never in a million years would I want to “unite” to “bargain together.”

Heck, I don’t enjoy crowd participation in shows.

randyrand··on A tiny Pacific country rolls out universal basic income
Upgrading 6 million trucks will take years. Trucks are used for millions of miles each.
randyrand··on Nurses Sound Alarm as 'Uber for Nursing' Apps Push to Deregulate Healthcare
I cant even afford a hospital stay.
randyrand··on Is my data used for model training?
Okay, and how do I delete my data?
randyrand··on The Grid, a factory-scale robot in Massachusetts that builds PCBs on demand
> We don't call out competitors specifically

You should. You’re the underdog.

randyrand··on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch
> PROLED

Really... I would expect this naming from an Onion article.

randyrand··on The Goose Programming Language
Twitter is gone, in more ways than one. RIP.
randyrand··on Meta approves Class C structure, strikes deal to retain Zuckerberg in California
He still has fiduciary duty, so presumably he was not alone.
randyrand··on Your Phone Is About to Stop Being Yours: 70 Days Until Lockdown
Maybe stop using Android? I feel like there are a lot of decent distros these days. This helps accelerate it.
randyrand··on Every AI model has the same "controversial" take on humans
“Humans are more loyal to belonging than to truth,”

I guess that's why I'm unpopular.

randyrand··on How Far Will AI Assistants Go for a Refund They Can't Get?
If you prompt your AI to be an asshole, who is the asshole?

That’s a ridiculously rude and inconsiderate prompt.

randyrand··on Furifont, a Japanese font that shows furigana

never even gets to 10!

randyrand··on Tesla Roadster
Whatever millions they spent on developing this car, are dwarfed by the amount this press coverage is worth.
randyrand··on Tesla Roadster
Propane powered cars were (are) on public roads, for better or worse.
randyrand··on Tesla Roadster
All fancy sports cars are useless. Like really. To race them? What’s the point?
randyrand··on Show HN: I wrote an email app that accepts only one sender per inbox
Isn’t this functionality identical to an approved senders list?

Why this extra complication?

I could just have a normal email and block any domain I haven’t approved, ya?

Your website needs to make this more clear.

randyrand··on Show HN: I wrote an email app that accepts only one sender per inbox
Marketing needs some work. I don't really understand your website copy.

It's an uphill battle to trust my email to a 1-person startup. Website doesn't look very professional. Video has weird copy in it, and AI voice.

Perhaps start with a self hosting option until you gain footing.

randyrand··on C++26 Contracts: Introduction to Preconditions and Postconditions
This is a cool way to think about it!
randyrand··on C++26 Contracts: Introduction to Preconditions and Postconditions
Maybe just me, but huge complicated languages like C++ seem as unappealing as ever.

If I’m going to write code by hand, the requirement for a beautiful pleasant language is bigger than ever.

randyrand··on 11 year old unsoundness bugs found in Rust borrow checker
For micros and other embedded spaces.
randyrand··on Redesigning source control at Anthropic
> would realistically want to spend

...on expensive / over-priced Anthropic products.

If you wanted to use this amount of tokens you would find a cheaper provider.

Still some room to be more self-aware.

randyrand··on 11 year old unsoundness bugs found in Rust borrow checker
I just wish Rust handled out of memory more gracefully like a normal error.
randyrand··on US man given prison sentence for bot-farming music streams
A stretch IMO. They were are all real paid users, just “agentic” bot users.
randyrand··on US man given prison sentence for bot-farming music streams
If you pay for a $15/month service, how are you able to make more than $15/month in royalties?
randyrand··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
Wow, was not expecting this to be about Photopea! What an amazing piece of software I used it all the time! Less with AI these days, but still lots!
