circumventing DRM is exactly what separates breaking the law from preservation...
reactordev··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
I think law enforcement should be barred from carrying lethal weapons.

Shot in the neck and lived. 420 years. Pretti filming peacefully and shot in the back. 0 years.

That isn’t true, you preserve the data as is for the software as is. You can emulate under it if you need to run it. This is what internet archive has done and the proper preservation of the media is in tact. In NO WAY do you ever need to convert the data back to a workable source in its original authoring program.
reactordev··on Police Are Using AI to Pull over Drivers for 'Suspicious' Behavior
So, pre-crime... which is illegal.

I think you are missing the point here. The art assets in question belong to the studio. Yes, they are painstakingly made. They are made with the assistance of some very very expensive technologies. Full body scans. Facial rigging with 180 high fps cameras. Mocap suits and props in a full blown warehouse studio. The works. It's not just a 3D model. It's a rigged 3d digital twin of an actor. There's image rights, etc that have to be negotiated and deals made. Preservation would be to preserve the data as is rather than reworking it into a blender scene.

their staff posts these things. their staff creates videos of how to rip assets from games. they are fully aware of what their users are doing and they openly encourage it.

Straight up theft, not fan recreations, theft.

reactordev··on Solar power is becoming bigger than nuclear
No, it protects fossil fuel energy companies from having to retool and change.
reactordev··on Sebastian Raschka's from-scratch video course on building reasoning models
We need to up the ante, we all know it's the Mumbai Indians. ;)

One can train a decent model at home, for a specific task but you are absolutely correct that in order to have a model that's an expert in any topic it requires training and data on all topics.

reactordev··on Fixing Tool-Call Accuracy in vLLM
This is the approach I took. Before leaving scope, results are filtered to remove tool call errors and bloat and instead append those errors to a different system. A much smaller tool call error result is returned to the agent while keeping the reasoning for failure intact.
reactordev··on Xbox Turns Down Netflix $500M Offer
30% on $10M and under. 25% on $10M to $50M. 20% on $50M+.

They still can’t technically obtain it without a warrant. They do it anyway.

reactordev··on Battlezone Online: BZFlag in the Browser
While we’re at it, MechWarrior/BattleTech could use some TLC in the form of the same treatment.

This and titles like it made my childhood

reactordev··on Does Ruby on Rails still make sense?
No and having strong opinions codified into patterns that an agent can utilize is exactly what we need today so, no not wrong and in fact, more needed than ever.
reactordev··on IKEA – 3D Guide
Indeed, step 3 has the shelve boards in backwards.
reactordev··on Publish fake stats, get cited in LLMs
in which case it sees it's been cited, that it's the "source of truth" and approves the fake data.
reactordev··on RuneScape Bench: MMOs for Agents [video]
People complained and they changed it.

Contrast with Origin Systems at the time and Richard Garriott getting murdered as Lord British and the chaos that followed.

I miss those days. When your avatar/player had consequences.

reactordev··on RuneScape Bench: MMOs for Agents [video]
If this was for UO, you'd have a bloodbath. RuneScape's systems were pretty tame compared to UO:SA where anywhere outside of towns was PvP allowed and when you died you lost all your gear.
reactordev··on tsc-ts: TypeScript written in TypeScript
Stage 1 to writing a bootstrap able language is using the intermediate step of compiling it with a compiler written in another language so that you can write a compiler for yours. I’m sure they did this in order to get a binary of the first self-compilable version.
reactordev··on Steam Client is now faster than Epic's new vibe coded launcher
Both take way too long because of all that electron bloat. I miss being able to load a small app in under 1s. Everything has telemetry or online verification/updating now.
reactordev··on Israeli firm's digital ads enabling installation of 'zero-click' spyware
If I had to ponder a guess…

It’s to do with hiding malware/spyware in an image which ends up in your cache on device. I can’t go much further into details but all this takes is for you to visit a site that serves it via ad network.

Israel has been known to have some sneaky spyware in the past with Pegasus.

reactordev··on Character.ai's Bankruptcy Documents Show the Economics of AI Don't Work
I can have full conversations with Gemma4 on my phone, no server requests, with voice.
reactordev··on AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary
Early PC release would be amazing but legally dubious.

It's an AMAZING time for mods. The list of mods for games that support it is growing fast. I would start listing them but I'm sure you can check your favorite game and just see for yourself. What I don't care for is Nexusmods. More and more people are getting into indie game dev with the support of AI now and while yes it will produce more slop and crappy games, it will also produce some really good new ones. We need more NEW franchises.
