Yeeeeep
realworldview··on Andy Rubin Puts Essential Up for Sale, Cancels Next Phone
Oh, I thought it was a search for a new product, the Google Stone. Now that is a product I would buy.
realworldview··on Andy Rubin Puts Essential Up for Sale, Cancels Next Phone
It’s debatable whether it worked the first st time! But I am happy that to be guided.

Damn you, humourless down-voting Philistines.

You fell for the “Google knows everything” mantra…

Downvoted for stating the obvious? $100 bazillion needs to be put in perspective.

Keyboard without comma keys, perhaps?

> and its Android software is nearly identical to the stock version running on Google’s Pixel phones, giving it another unique sales proposition.

Is it just me?

realworldview··on The Stuxnet worm may be the most sophisticated software ever written
_When that USB drive is inserted into a Windows PC, without the user knowing it, that worm will quietly run itself, and copy itself to that PC._ Truly magical. Anthropomorphism and personification help continue the myth of sentient, usually evil, software. Whilst scaring the heebie jeebies out of everyone.
realworldview··on Ask HN: How do I learn math/physics in my thirties?
Buy a book and take a course. It won’t be enjoyable but being examined on what you learn will provide focus. Find a small group of people doing the same or similar learning, so you can discuss the different problems each of you will have. Persevere and plan carefully. Otherwise you’ll waste time and energy. Don’t get sidetracked by great presentations and new tech from internet-based resources; remember what the objective is...
realworldview··on Gmail Icons are Hard
Fortunately
realworldview··on Gmail Icons are Hard
Unambiguous, non-disruptive and not distracting. Life is to short to live by the whim of profit-led iconography which aims to keep people guessing and attentive whilst distracting them from the real utility and product necessity.

realworldview··on Linus Torvalds Remembers the Days Before ‘Open Source’
What a strange article. Clearly disturbed by the values and _confusion_ with the term free, it doesn’t delve into the significant body of work that existed prior to 1998, except for a passing quote, and how such software enabled many things, including the Linux Kernel. I can only presume the ad space associated with this article is valuable because it certainly isn’t an historically interesting or accurate piece.
realworldview··on Founding Stories Are Myths
Exactly like that, and especially with plenty Ramen.
realworldview··on Founding Stories Are Myths
I plan on disrupting the garage-based startup business, from my garage.
realworldview··on How not to replace email: lessons from Google Wave
Glittering, but definitely not gold. We used it for 15 minutes, ended up discussed how bad it was then rolled our eye in fake surprise when it was quickly dropped. Subsewuent discussions were about how it embodied the nee software generations. “Let’s do it because we can do it!”

Google Wave? No, Google Edsel, Mk1.

realworldview··on Maintaining code quality when nobody cares
Ahhh, life. If only everything were perfect. Keep pushing but don’t be surprised by the pushback and despondency. But keep pushing, for yourself, and others who want to care.
realworldview··on The UX of AI
More ads from the ad company. yawn
realworldview··on Car insurers accused of discriminating against people with Hotmail accounts
Don’t worry about downvotes; oppression by the status quo for random and varying reasons is a discriminatory mechanism to make our words invisible. Keep commenting!
realworldview··on Russia says satellite launch failure due to programming error
Yes. Unfortunately, the distinction eludes many, and most critically the Journalists reporting such information.

realworldview··on Is Spending Time on Social Media Bad for Us?
It’s unfortunate that I’m clearly biased when I read the title and source, and William Morris immediately comes to mind. I sincerely wish them well with this and I’ll hold-off making rash, ill-considered and abrupt judgements.
