richtaur··on Show HN: a new team chat web/irc tool
I built something like this (a long time ago) for my own purposes. So did a startup we're working with!

That says there might be a need for it, but on the downside it's really simple to build, so competition can spring up very quickly.

richtaur··on HTML5 games can now be played on Xbox 360
I haven't dug through this 14-page document yet: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3044...

But the gamepad API could easily supported. Only problem is the controller now has default behavior (controlling the browser cursor).

richtaur··on Show HN: Powderkeg, a realtime, synchronous, multiplayer HTML5 action game
Congrats you guys :-)
richtaur··on Weekend hack: A little tiled window manager for OS X
Looks similar to [Divvy](http://mizage.com/divvy/), which I bought a while ago and now use about every 30 seconds ;)
richtaur··on Pull this up in your Android or iOS browser: Defense
Yeah axes are something to avoid ;) We were thinking about making them more fun but we're basically done working on this game.
richtaur··on Pull this up in your Android or iOS browser: Defense
So the difficulty ramps up like this: it goes from 1 to 100 every 60 seconds, spawning more difficult enemies as it increases. The difficulty increases faster the more damage you've taken. Once it reaches 100, it spawns dragons, resets to 0 and doubles the amount of monsters it will spawn.

You can reset the difficulty manually by working your way up the weapon tree to the RUNEFORGE (purple sword)!

Glad it was still fun despite your frustration :-)

richtaur··on Pull this up in your Android or iOS browser: Defense
Thank you very much! :-)
richtaur··on Pull this up in your Android or iOS browser: Defense
1. Wait for user input before loading 2. Load up a "sound sprite" (kind of like a sprite sheet for audio) since iOS only supports playing one sound at a time 3. PROFIetc.
richtaur··on GoDaddy supports SOPA, redditor proposes "Move your Domain Day"
Here's a helpful article I used to move my domains off of GoDaddy:

richtaur··on Going Fullscreen with Canvas
To undo fullscreen in Chrome:

* Command/Shift/F

or

* Command/, (going into Preferences disables it)

richtaur··on $149 for a Touchpad if you sign up as a developer
Going to be really difficult for Palm to compete in the tablet market given their industry instability. They contacted us about getting our game onto an HP TouchPad -- then promptly announced their discontinuation (???).

Plus, Google has already given me a free Galaxy Tab (for attending Google I/O). Among that and my iPad, it's pretty easy to guess which I'll be hacking on.

richtaur··on Winamp for Mac
I love me some Winamp. Since switching to a Mac, it's one of only a few apps that I miss terribly.

But if it doesn't support the media controls on a Mac keyboard, it just cannot compete with iTunes. Period.

richtaur··on Staying Productive When Working From Home
This!

The moment I wake up, I very often have some idea in my head that I want to jump on immediately. Knowing that I have limited time before I need to commute stymies my ability to harness that energy.

richtaur··on What a Developer Job Posting Should Look Like
I dunno man, that's awfully wordy.
richtaur··on Lessons for Software Industry Novices
> 1. You’re not smarter than anyone

Should be: You're not smarter than everyone. Ever worked with interns? They have even more to learn than you do.

> 3. Looks matter

Do not care, and don't want to work for anyone who does. This is nonsense.

> 6. Software’s primary function is to earn profits

What? It's not. Software's primary function is to tell a device what to do. And the device is meant to make lives better. Nonprofits exist; they use software too.

I quit reading after #15 and #16 because clearly this dude is just trying to fill up bullet points. Is 33 the magic "get lots of views" number? FFS.

richtaur··on ~/.osx — a collection of sensible defaults for OS X Lion
Hey, here's mine why not: https://github.com/richtaur/dotfiles/blob/master/osx_setup.m...
richtaur··on Game Closure Quietly Raises Seed Round From SV Angel And More
I'm one of the Lost Decade Games guys, we used the Game Closure SDK for our game Onslaught!, which is what allowed us to release on both iPad and Android. Really amazing SDK, makes cross-platform development fun and easy.
richtaur··on The road to a production-quality HTML5 game on iOS
We just launched on Android too!https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gameclosure.tealea...
richtaur··on Facebook Engineer Builds Google+ Inspired Facebook Hack
To me this feels like the first time Facebook is trying to catch up to Google instead of vice-versa (with regards to Social, of course).
richtaur··on How to embed HTML5 into a native Mac OSX app
> We recently announced that we had also launched the game on the Mac App Store

We did too :) Write once, run on multiple platforms! Awesome.

richtaur··on An HTML5 game in the Mac App Store
I'm going to be writing a tutorial on how to make a native Mac app with an embedded WebView pretty soon. Watch our blog for oupdates! :-)
richtaur··on An HTML5 game in the Mac App Store
It's not playable on my Nexus One. When a bunch of monsters are on the screen it gets down to ~10 FPS. So close!
richtaur··on Ask HN: What are your best life hacks?
I've been running iTerm and MacVim in fullscreen mode and that alone has done wonders for my productivity. I like the idea of closing Adium and the mail app, but I just don't know if I could do it! I feel paranoid when they're not open.

richtaur··on Free Kindle Math Books
Tip: on your Kindle search the store for "ck-12" to bring them all up at once.
richtaur··on An Open Letter to JavaScript Leaders Regarding Semicolons
Hopelessly pedantic … use them (or don't), but either way don't waste too much time on this subject. Focus on things that matter more.
richtaur··on Our first week in the Chrome Webstore: the numbers
Thanks for the info! We will definitely look into that.
richtaur··on Our first week in the Chrome Webstore: the numbers
That's a good point; we've thought about it. As a knee-jerk reaction, the idea doesn't sit well with us because it's a less-than-ideal experience. Users don't want to sit through or be saturated with ads, but I guess it does come with the "web-based game" territory.
richtaur··on Biolab Disaster - an HTML5 Game (plus Making-Of Video)
There's this: http://html5games.com/ Our game is up there: http://html5games.com/2010/07/onslaught/
richtaur··on Diggy: open source JavaScript game engine (with example game)
I was using Titanium Mobile 1.1 I think. Yes, please do! I'd love to know how that goes :)
