riedel··on Around a dozen banking apps began specifically permitting GrapheneOS
I found some evidence of half a dozen that there might be support 'by desogn' (all of them might pull the rug at any time again as far as I understand TOS, which however seems true for any android in theory): Swissquote, Yuh, UBS, Starling Bank, Triodos Bankieren NL, AmeriCU Credit Union. More?
riedel··on Around a dozen banking apps began specifically permitting GrapheneOS
Where is this list of 12+ banks that explicitly allow graphene. My understanding is if the banks do not explicitly state support also in terms of ToS, they might pull the rug any moment. With neo banks you are then basically left without a bank.
riedel··on Getting ready to operate GNU Taler in Germany
The system was designed by people who value taxation as something important to a functioning state. You can call that a conspiracy, I would rather call it social market economy.
riedel··on Show HN: High-quality duck audio synthesizer
And I thought this was something like rubber duck synthesizer revival [0].

riedel··on Mitos editor is a fork of Helix
From the commit history it rather looks like an ai agent speed run of a single guy frustrated about this not moving fast enough.
riedel··on Microsoft Teams is a red flag
The Facebook comparison is on spot: Both GitHub and Teams have become social networks. Even better if inferior, they solve visibility and connection issues. Actually Microsoft keeps the friction for people without an account just high enough that you want to use it in a business. What we need is that those services are regulated more like Telefone networks allowing federation.
riedel··on Amsterdam server seized at request of U.S. authorities after Antifa allegations
Libertarian world views seem to end often at a point where you people are calling out facism. Wonder why...
riedel··on Why I Wrote PGP (1991, revised 1999)
I guess the code base has really become a bit messy over time with all that parsing and different crypto algorithms. But the attack surface can be significantly reduced by using sq or even better stateless sqop.
riedel··on Iosevka is an open-source, sans-serif and slab-serif monospace font
Thanks! Should have read more carefully. To make things more confusing there seems to be IoskeleyMono as free alternative btw [0]

Headline seems to be a bit strange as the A/I collective has dissolved officially as of September 18. The history of events can be followed here [0]

riedel··on Thunderbird for iOS
Thunderbird desktop has the expression-search-ng addon that is notoriously breaks on updates. Wonder why the team does not make search a priority cross platform.
riedel··on Thunderbird for iOS
I use k9/thunderbird for private mail. But for my org's on prem exchange account I use nine folders, as I also want to sync calendar and contacts. (We have a davmail gateway but it has quirks)
riedel··on Thunderbird for iOS
Thunderbird for android is K9 just rebranded afaik.
riedel··on LineageOS 24.0
This really is really a great development. I really just hope that will be true for the new European Digital Identity Wallet as well and we see adoption across multiple industries.

The state for me personally is that my joint bank account with my wife uses a play integrity protected banking app (changing your own a accounts to a better bank is one thing). Also beyond banks things now require proprietary 'secure' TAN apps like my insurance broker. The issue is that for me every a new problem like this popped up and to find solutions take time over and over. Even thing that work now may stop working the next minute because there is no real effort of fintech and its management to keep compatible with niche devices. It is mostly either coincidence or the effort of tech savvy individuals at those companies.

We only can hope that a large group of people including regulators get sanctioned or mandated not to use any US tech even privately so they see little offer is left even inside Europe that is truly sovereign. I gave up for now (after about 10 years exclusive on LineageOS ). I actually bought a pixel to have Graphene as a way out of vendor ROMs again, but I still don't have the energy to switch (alone reregistration all those TAN apps takes ages often involving waiting weeks for stupi snail mail activation letters)

riedel··on The RAM shortage is bringing back DDR4
Actually, because it is absolute fine DDR4 prices are also rising. The only thing I found I could find for a decent price is unbuffered server ram or laptop ram.

I think the reason why those processors are produced are because it rather makes sense to upgrade your old rig with them. Seems to be the only way actually to increase CPU sales beyond laptops ans smart phones.

I don't see more DDR4 ram being produced. Chinese brands are already starting to produce DDR5 and soon HBM. 'Bringing back DDR4' is IMHO a too bold claim.

riedel··on Nix wrote half of my debugger
Also being able to use wsl on my windows based work laptop added a lot to nixos affordance : https://nix-community.github.io/NixOS-WSL/install.html
riedel··on LineageOS 24.0
My wife replaced batteries herself with pixel 3a and 6a without any problems (I guess I wouldn't test if they are still waterproof).
riedel··on Nix wrote half of my debugger
I love the combination.

I use devenv (yet another nix flake dev environments) and opencode.

It is quite a synergy : my nix usage profits from the agent and the agent profits from being able to install just anything.

I even vibecoded a plugin for personal use that runs all bash tool calls through devenv and uses the supplied nix lsp package:

riedel··on LineageOS 24
This is the problem: it was a cat and mouse game always. I managed even strong integrity with keybox stuff and so on. Yes it is possible. But if you really need to do send money or e. g. want to pay with NFC, it gets rather stressful. Yes, I got everything working (Note 10 pro on LOS 23), but never longer than a few month.
riedel··on LineageOS 24
In Germany that would be market places like eBay or Amazon (i.e. non-originally replacement parts). Original ones go for around 45 EUR (iFixit). But I guess you wouldn't care too much about original parts at that age.
riedel··on LineageOS 24
Prices here are 13EUR including tools from what I can see.

The only reason I have been switching phones is banking apps: so much for Europe's right to repair..

riedel··on Ur-Fascism
The 14 properties of ur-facism identified by Umberto Eco are: * The cult of tradition * The rejection of modernism * The cult of action for action’s sake * Disagreement is treason * Fear of difference * Appeal to social frustration * Obsession with a plot * The enemy is both strong and weak * Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy * Contempt for the weak * Everybody is educated to become a hero * Machismo and weapon-fetishism * Selective populism * Ur-Fascism speaks Newspeak

Probably one can easily make some check boxes for various right-leaning populist governments around the globe. Eco predicts that ur-facism eventually erodes democracy and will lead to a state of constant war. Not so good prospects, at all.

riedel··on Rogue Anthropic AI agent gave police fake tip in unsolved murder case
It is different perspectives on the same thing I guess. On a global statistical level it is risk = impact x likelihood . On a local level your controls need to be appropriate for the risk. If accepting those risks globally goes without a consequence and companies accept a huge risk appetite, it is time for law enforcement and policy making to correct this in the interest of third parties impacted.
riedel··on WSL containers is now generally available
Actually like containers, however different WSL distributions (already in WSL2) share the same virtualized kernel, which is particularly prepared to interactact with the host Windows.
riedel··on Former German spy chief arrested for attempted treason
The CIA actually build the Gehlen Org (now BND) from some ex-Nazis as spy's against the communists. Is all a very sad joke.[0]

riedel··on Former German spy chief arrested for attempted treason
Actually the even more fun part is that they only found out because they raided his house due to this really sketchy case he was contracted for via his really sketcy swiss(!) private eye company: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jul/20/germany-christ...
riedel··on Picard 3.0
I just started around messing with opencode and beets cli. No MCP, no real skills etc.. Worked reasonably well on some retagging, better dir layout. Nothing special. Probably could also done it without an agent. I still fail to clean up some ripped apart compilations, etc. (Partially due to premature re-sorting). Trying to figure out the human oversight part. My goal was also doing a sensible genre and other semantic description over the whole collection to enable RAG style playlists, but I guess one also has to have a decent plan for such things. I was actually hoping there was already more out there.
riedel··on People are asking ChatGPT to help them decide how to vote in the midterms
I guess FEC laws don't protect you from the pravda network. However, LLM might be not so good at ranking false information, if it is already massively embedded in their training data (LLM grooming).

Still it seems that this is currently not the case [0] (yet).

I guess the risk atm is rather some crazy billionaires embedding their believes in post training and system prompts. But honestly I rather fear tiktok in this regard.

riedel··on Picard 3.0
I am doing the same. I started to connect my agent to beets db. Actually would be quite I interested in some clean-up skills. I actually started to go to the local library again to add to my music collection (at least in my jurisdiction you can do private copies of non DRM content)
