rnmp··on Claude Code IDE integration for Emacs
I use Neovim + kitty (https://sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty/conf/) and the performance is phenomenal. Everything is instant. kitty also has a built-in robust layout system so I ended up ditching tmux entirely for it.
rnmp··on Mouseless – fast mouse control with the keyboard
I've wanted this for years
rnmp··on Claude for Mac: The unofficial desktop app for Anthropic Claude
Kudos for using SwiftUI instead of Electron!
rnmp··on The Anti-Productivity Manifesto
Shameless plug but I wrote an app[1] with the same idea of anti-productivity in mind. Having read the book, the idea of 4000 weeks in your life can be scary but also inspiring.

rnmp··on Show HN: Grila – Calendar for keyboard addicts, always one keypress away
Agreed. Maybe have an intentional edit mode?
rnmp··on Show HN: Obsidian Canvas – An infinite space for your ideas
Does anyone know how to actually turn on this feature? I just made a new account and I can’t find this option…
rnmp··on Ask HN: Why couldn’t Reddit replace Twitter?
Funny enough, I posted this on Reddit too and it got moderated out.
rnmp··on Ask HN: Why couldn’t Reddit replace Twitter?
I anticipate the question about cannibalizing communities in favor of individual profiles but I don’t think those two concepts are incompatible.
rnmp··on Productivity Blocker
Love the sentiment here. Whoever is reading this should try disabling all notifications ever.

There really isn’t a need to know when someone messages you or you get news.

Doing this helps you focus more both for work but also for chill time.

rnmp··on Show HN: Using Vim as an input method editor (IME) for X11 apps
Looks so good. Is it compatible with Neovim?

Thanks for sharing!

rnmp··on Why Evernote failed to realize its potential (2021)
Been building a tool[1] to replace my usage of Evernote. I agree that caring about the product and its vision is the only way to keep the quality and attention to detail afloat.
rnmp··on Nord – An Arctic, north-bluish color palette
Been using this for a while with some personal tweaks to make it a bit more colourful. It’s a great theme. Glad it made it to the top.
rnmp··on Feather – open source icons
Glad to see it being featured here. Been a big fan since the beginning.

Probably already mentioned before (lazy to scroll) but if you’re building something and need icons don’t just use one package.

If you’re building in React or a compatible JSX library use react icons (https://react-icons.github.io/react-icons/).

It lets you pick and choose from many packs (Feather included) and if you’re careful with your selections you can meet pretty much all needs in a cohesive way. Until you can afford an in house designer :P

rnmp··on Ask HN: Are you leaving Heroku?
Have you by any chance tried Dokku? How does it compare with Piku?
rnmp··on Ask HN: Are you leaving Heroku?
I had a small project hosted in Heroku. After the whole debacle with security I wanted to get ahead of any more potential disruptions and migrated over to AWS EC2 + RDS + Dokku. Being my first time with AWS, I thought it was more straightforward than I thought. RDS seemed like a nice early optimization too (and also mimics how Heroku handles Databases normally by having a separate server for them off the get-go).
rnmp··on Compare Webb's Images to Hubble
It’s as if they remastered an old video game. So much more detail!
rnmp··on Raindrop: All-in-One Bookmark Manager
Shameless plug but I’m working on a visual organization and bookmarking tool and feedback and input from someone like you would be crucial!

Sorry it took me a while to respond.

I will try not to get too philosophical by first getting “work productivity” out of the equation. You must have tools for work productivity and maybe that’s the focus of OP.

There is the concept of “life productivity” which involves your personal projects, hobbies, your life plans, family, etc.

These are goals and aspirations which are deeply connected to your fulfillment. You can’t really put these in buckets of tasks. In fact, the mere notion of doing so sets you up for failure in many cases.

Imagine getting out of work where you look at a wall of todos to complete just to look at another. It’s exhausting and uninspiring.

By rejecting that concept and instead focusing on inspiration, curation with some level of organization and mapping you are building something something that more closely resembles your priorities and that continues to make you feel proud and happy about your past, present, and future accomplishments.

Happy to chat more about this if you’d like.

rnmp··on Anytype: A local, privacy-first Notion alternative
I’ve been working on my own take on “knowledge bases” with a more personal, visual approach: Bleep [1]. I’m glad to see tools focusing less on productivity/work and more on personal growth and happiness.

Privacy is hard. I’d love to give e2e encryption off the get-go but that makes it difficult to scale up and build advanced search functionality for a small team. Would be interesting to see how Anytype or similar tools accomplish it.

rnmp··on Inbox, diary, to-do list: now choose just two
I’ve ditched traditional productivity tools in favor of visual tools like Bleep (https://bleep.is) or Kinopio (https://kinopio.club). Haven’t looked since.

It’s so liberating not to have a mountain of tasks that I’ll never get to and instead enjoy time creating a visual space for things I care about.

rnmp··on Kinopio
Definitely the intention. I really like are.na’s concept but was hoping to have something more multi-purpose and accessible visually.
rnmp··on Kinopio
Really glad to see apps that help you explore your thoughts without feeling like productivity. This is a trend that will continue growing.

Shameless plug on an app I’m working on: Bleep (https://www.bleep.is)

Similar concept though different execution - customization + organization in a way that doesn’t feel like a productivity tool which is what I think Kinopio is aiming towards. Definitely an inspiration for me!

rnmp··on E Ink Gallery 3
Remarkable owner here. RM display doesn't anti-alias actual pen strokes, pretty sure this makes the screen refresh faster. Everything else that is anti-alias tho is a bit slower to refresh.
rnmp··on Show HN: Bleep – Collect Everything Visually
Love this. It’s surprisingly good on mobile. Do you have any plans of working on a native app soon?
rnmp··on My Personal Note Taking Journey
I’m curious as to what made you choose Kinopio over Are.na. I use the latter a lot and find it really useful for unstructured thoughts. I mainly use it privately though.

Kinopio looks great I will take it for a spin soon.

rnmp··on From Vim to Emacs in fourteen days (2015)
Totally agree about it feeling like playing a game. It’s probably because of the combos and just how fast things can be when you move around! I use neovim but I’m sure the experience we have is the same.
