Summits-on-the-Air, Parks-on-the-Air, and others involve going out and operating a portable station (the activator). The reason why parks are a good place to operate is that they have open spaces, trees, etc that are good for deploying antennas. You also don't generally need permission like you would with a school field for instance. Operating portable is great for people that live in an apartment or condo where they can't put up an antenna.
The emergency aspect is having the gear and practice for operating portable like one might have to do in an emergency.
In the end, it is about fun and using your equipment and skills in different ways.
The Javascript ecosystem tends to have lots of flux with new libraries and ways of doing things coming out all the time. I have found React to be one of the most stable libraries around. I can update versions of React and my code continues to work as before. Libraries that I depend on tend to have more issues with this and version updates can mean changes in the API for the library or a newer version of React not being supported.
My suggestion for someone learning React would be to start with the simplest way of getting started and learn React before learning concepts brought in with frameworks, etc. If I were to start learning React today, I would start with Vite.
You can run a GUI but it would currently run on the CPU not GPU. Reports are that the UI is quite snappy running on the CPU. The basic Asahi install is Arch with KDE. Linus apparently put Fedora on his travel laptop. What Linus was complaining about is Chrome support, which is coming or maybe is already available - https://twitter.com/asahilinux/status/1507263017146552326?la...
Taking the most popular songs at the time is not a recipe for finding the best songs/songs that will be remembered in the future. A good percentage of the songs listed were crap then and not worth remembering now.
Individual countries implement decisions taken at the ITU through laws and policy. Individual countries take care of enforcement. For instance, in the USA, that would be the FCC.
The other thing is to get involved with social physical activity, clubs, or volunteering. I played hockey and went to a group fitness gym. I made long term friends there. I am into ham radio and the club where I live is pretty good. I used to volunteer at a kids camp and that was great for making friends with the staff members and doing social things outside of camp.
To me, find where your interests align with social/community activity. Currently, I am trying to get the ham radio club to be more out in the community. We are doing radio communications for a running race this weekend. It is exciting.
It is hard to say though. You don't really know someone until you go through hardship together. My sense from knowing my friends would be yes we would be friends but I just can't say. We did go through some things in that time on personal fronts but it wasn't financial. Financial things can be different than others.
Our main focus was having a place of our own. We had the five year plan but as I said, I liked living where we were and with our friends. If it turned into a ten year plan or more, that would have been fine with me.
I think if we all kept our jobs, etc, things would be fine. If someone couldn't pay their side of the mortgage or something, that would have been more detrimental. Or if we had some sort of fight and were mid-renovation and had to try to finish the renovation not getting along or try to sell a half renovated house. Those things would have been pretty detrimental.
When we bought people thought it was the peak of the market and that is part of the people telling us it was crazy. We had no thoughts of the market continuing to go up when we bought. Our main focus was possibly making a bit on the renovations.
Even if the the market had gone down or sideways, and we didn't sell, I would have been fine with it. If we had lived there for the rest of our lives, I would have been fine with it. I liked the location and with the renovations, it was a great house.
It wasn't a get rich quick "scheme". Buying with friends was a way to buy a home. We were constantly being renovicted. We didn't have a place we felt was home. That house was home and buying with fiends was the only way it was possible.
I love where we are now but I could have continued to live in the situation we were in longer. It was like family. We did lots of things together socially and we supported each other. Financially, it was the best thing both couples have done in their lives (again lucky the market continued to go up).
That's my sample size of one.
