roer··on Let's make quality the norm again
According to page 116 of the report of this EU survey: https://europa.eu/eurobarometer/surveys/detail/3752, Sweden and Denmark have climare change as their number 1 and number 2 most important topics to be addressed in the European Parliament respectively. It makes sense to extend that to the OP which is norwegian and say that a lot of the target audience probably cares

I do however agree that making the cheapest/best solutions also be good for the environment would be ideal.

Depends entirely on the specifics of your usecase what concessions you want to make.

One launch location or multiple?

What frequency of launch?

How heavy are the payloads?

How good accuracy?

What transport methods are available?

How long should it operate without maintenance?

Is solar an option if we go electric?

Etc.

You'd probably be better off using a rail gun if you want a carriable launcher
roer··on Count Binface receives over a quarter of votes in Clacton by-election
He's said multiple times that the point is to celebrate democracy itself. I highly doubt his goal has ever been a political position of power.

This is the first time he's passed 5% of the vote and he was the only other candidate on the ballot. It seems quite clear cut that these are protest votes.

All that being said, purely off of vibes, I agree with the parent comment saying he would probably not misuse his power if he were to get it, which I think is already good enough in terms of "having no idea what he would actually do".

roer··on Count Binface receives over a quarter of votes in Clacton by-election
Your last paragraph answers your second imo. The other parties want to highlight that the election was held with the outcome already practically decided. By not participating they are harming the "people vs. the establishment" narrative Farage is trying to spin
roer··on Android May Soon Restrict On-Device ADB
The original issue is proposing letting the user assign the debug service to a specific interface, one of which would presumably be loopback. This article is about the proposal from a developer that it should only ever be assigned to wlan0, which would break a lot of apps.

Letting applications bypass permissions with this feature is the exact usecase they don't want to lose. If anything, I don't see them being against the original proposal possibly restricting non-loopback access, which would enhance security.

roer··on Behind the scenes with the Midjourney scanner [video]
This skepticism is weird to me. I might be overly naive, but it looks like these are people that have funding for doing something they think is cool and think could help people out. Whether or not it turns out that way is something we'll have to see, but the premise of just going ahead and building the thing should be applauded in my opinion
roer··on Behind the scenes with the Midjourney scanner [video]
As I understood it, they're using the rest of the array to receive when one is transmitting, thus getting signal from the opposite side of the body as well. I don't see how you can do this with just one device.
roer··on Turn your site into a place people can bump into each other
Your point stands, but this is not exactly an exemplary comment either
roer··on EU to legislate about Chat Control behind closed doors
Might make sense to message the MEP's that oppose chat control moreso the ones that support it. Maybe they can use some of their internal influence to sway some people. I'm pessimistic about the amount of weight these representatives are giving to emails from citizens

Going through your comment history makes me wish for a way to ignore hn users

There's a Frieren [1] reference in there! https://www.ioccc.org/2025/yang2/index.html

One of the main characters is called Fern, and she almost exclusively uses the common offensive magic of Zoltraak.

roer··on SpaceX S-1
Not that slow if the temperature is high enough. Power radiated is proportional to T^4

Scott Manley is a much more respected source than I am
roer··on SpaceX S-1
I don't see how that would lessen their concerns? Exactly because space is a vacuum, cooling is harder since you can't do convection.

The math still checks out though. Scott Manley did a video on it, and the top comment has some corrections: https://youtu.be/FlQYU3m1e80

roer··on Hardware Attestation as Monopoly Enabler
Frame it as "America will decide what you can do with your phone" and people in Europe will listen.
roer··on Hardware Attestation as Monopoly Enabler
Check if there are local digital rights groups to your country/area. I just joined two I didn't even know about. Meeting up and talking with likeminded people is a great way to get motivation for bigger change.
roer··on Valve releases Steam Controller CAD files under Creative Commons license
I love the readme on the gitlab page [1]. It feels so.. friendly :)

> This repository contains CAD files for the external shell (surface topology) of Steam Controller and the Steam Controller Puck, under a Creative Commons license. This includes an STP model of each, an STL model of each, and an engineering drawing with critical features/keep outs for each.

Feel free to use these to make your own Puck holders, Controller sweaters, or whatever else you want to create!

Your Steam Controller is yours, and you have the right to do with it what you want. That said, we highly recommend you leave it to professionals. Any damage you do will not be covered by your warranty – but more importantly, you might break your Steam Controller, or even get hurt! Be careful, and have fun.

roer··on Why Not Venus?
Did you read the rest of the post? The author acknowledges the lander issues as well
roer··on DeepSeek v4
This is quite interesting. I'm not sure what can to be done to reverse this? When you've reached a level of untrust where you deem trust itself naive, how can you recover?
roer··on M 7.4 earthquake – 100 km ENE of Miyako, Japan
It is straight up the same NERV, so it might.

From the site:

The graphics protocol might be relevant, but I fail to see how the rest of your comment is.
roer··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
I assume you meant Crunchyroll. They've gotten even worse recently by moving away from .ass subtitles which removes a ton of typesetting options
roer··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
It doesn't have to be significantly better. If the service is stable, cheap and hassle-free, people will pay for it.
roer··on Charcuterie – Visual similarity Unicode explorer
Lots of fun trying to go to a target symbol. Especially if you intentionally get yourself stuck in the lines first :D

roer··on Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux
I think op meant the subjective feeling of having a system that runs in a stable manner. I don't quite follow their reasoning either (maybe the smaller changesets expose compatibility bugs before affecting general ux?), but I agree that arch was a joy for me to use and felt "stable".
