rolosa··on Kalshi court losses pile up as judges refuse to block state gambling laws
Don't be obtuse. Kalshi and Polymarket are 100% gambling. You don't need a PhD to see that.
rolosa··on Basically no one is using AI agents for their DoorDash orders
I would not trust the AI to order food off of these websites for me because the labeled data itself is pretty much shit. Lots of dishes are unlabeled, have really bad pictures or no pictures at all, and the worse is the ones that have AI generated descriptions which are often wrong or not helpful. I'm totally fine with letting it just use my saved credit cards and delivery address (I assume the AI doesn't see them) but I can't trust it to order the food I actually want.

E: As an example (n = 1 etc): I am vegetarian. I have never ordered meat dishes, ever. Yet all of these food delivery apps suggest meat dishes for me.

That's actually a plus.
rolosa··on So I guess everyone uses LLMs to think now
Well yeah. If your exposure to AI is Google ai search then I don't really care what you have to say.

No?

Who the fuck is Erica?

> i truly have tried to use llms before, just to try it out. nothing i was going to publish as research, but i really couldn't and it left me never wanting to use an llm again

>

> i don't know how more people don't experience this, but staring at an llms output be confidently wrong eventually to get there in the process, or looking at the commands its running and see some really stupid things its doing drives me crazy to the point i will just stop it before it answers, i cannot handle something being that confidently wrong (even though it'll probably still get there in the end)

When people say stuff like this, that they've used LLMs before and hated it, and then list off a bunch of stuff about how they're confidently wrong and all this other stuff, my only question is when? When was the last time that they used an LLM? three months ago, six months ago, one year ago, two years ago?

rolosa··on ChatGPT and Codex usage limits merging
Yes it can? It's just that Claude chat starts the 5 hour usage timer (or gets blocked by it if you've started it elsewhere).

Here's the actual announcement email I got yesterday:

Hello,

In the coming weeks, we’ll start testing a combined experience for Chat and Work tabs in ChatGPT with a small group of users. We’ll use their feedback to improve the experience before bringing it to more people.

This will enable you to move from exploring an idea to having ChatGPT carry it through, all in one place. You can bring in your files and plugins and ask ChatGPT to build a website, create a presentation, or do things for you on the web, while reviewing and guiding its work. Codex will remain a separate experience in the ChatGPT desktop app.

*A shared allowance for ChatGPT and Codex*

As part of this unified experience, your use of ChatGPT and Codex will draw from the same allowance in the coming weeks. We’re preparing carefully for this transition to help prevent disruption to your workflows. We expect most users won’t need to wait for their usage to reset more often than they do today. Usage will depend on model and task, with more advanced models and complex tasks using more of your allowance. Unlimited Instant is included in your plan and will not draw from your usage.

You will be able to see your combined remaining usage and reset times in Settings → Usage. If you use your full allowance, you can wait for it to reset, upgrade your plan, or buy credits to continue using eligible features.

Is that the car dealership pricing strategy? How much do you wanna pay? We'll make it happen.
rolosa··on ChatGPT and Codex usage limits merging
With everyone coming out of the woodwork and commenting about how they're effectively abusing the chat portion unlimited to do all the work, you know, I kind of get why they had to do this. At the same time, it really fucks over people like me who don't use ChatGPT for coding at all, but rather for like random personal stuff. The reason why I switched to ChatGPT over Claude was because of those five hour usage limit bullshit that Claude imposes.
rolosa··on ChatGPT and Codex usage limits merging
Definitely not. Chat in Claude counts towards your weekly and 5 hour usage. Chat in ChatGPT was truly unique in that it was unlimited, even on the thinking modes.

rolosa··on Perspectiva Kogui: A message on artificial intelligence from the Kogui people
So I tried to ask the new Siri AI to translate and summarize the page for me but it says it can only summarize what it sees on the screen. Yet it can search through my entire email, messages, photos, and files?

He would have built a psychopathic alternative medicine AI, considering that's how he died.

The best part of winter for me is waking up in the dark, going to work in the dark, and driving home in the dark. I don't get affected by SAD and it's much more pleasant to me when it's not sunny.

One group makes ~50k a year, the other makes ~150k a year. They are not the same. White collar folks can absolutely "learn to ai" if they wanted.

People want 4K 55+ inch TVs. Thats the market these days. You might personally want a small one, but you aren't the norm.
rolosa··on Why is AI generated language so hard to understand?
I've worked as a rater before, working on doing the actual rating and also rating the raters. When you're a rater, you get very detailed instructions on what to do. When you're rating the raters, you're given the same instruction set so you have to rate them according to how well the raters followed instructions. I assume that someone else rates the raters who rates the raters, based on the same instruction following.

The job is easy and pays really well. If you want to keep the money flowing in, you simply follow directions. Standing out and being different gets you noticed, and not in a good way (because you're just a faceless rater id #667383737).

rolosa··on Why is AI generated language so hard to understand?
Yeah but that entire wall of text was not needed. The user wants a simple answer that they can take action on.

This happens to me way too often. I just want a simple answer. I don't need a wall of text with 6 different options and a lengthy explanation. Just. Tell. Me. The. Answer.

rolosa··on Why is AI generated language so hard to understand?
To me it seems like the linked in corporate speak effect. Lots of words that are ultimately meaningless, but hey the executives find it impressive.
