We don't care about fobs. It's not a thing we want in a Tesla outside of just having merch. We don't carry keys or fobs or anything. We've moved beyond that. We walk up to our car and it senses our phone and it unlocks.
I love it, so many things just make sense on my Tesla, which is why I have two. It's really a step backwards getting into any other car at this point. I just walk up to it, it unlocks automatically (because it senses my phone). I fasten my seatbelt, touch one button on the screen, and it then drives me to me to work (through busy city and highway roads). I don't have to do anything, I don't even have to drive it.
What are you talking about? Most people just use their phone for their Tesla. Most carry they $40 credit card style key in their wallet just in case, but rarely use it. The $175 fob is just a kind of collectors item nobody has except for people who are really into Tesla and buy all the merch.
Offtopic: I only see "genius" used these days to describe an idiot. I guess this is how words change meaning over time. At some point in the future being called a "genius" will always be seen as pejorative.
Understandable. Surprised that's not automated though. Would be worth the time to invest in that area, will save a lot of pain and time in the future. As we shift more to AI, testing is more important than ever and all of that can generally be automated.
Multiple companies I know of have internal tool websites that are the front end to the major AI companies and it has access to cut PRs so non devs are able to open PRs
This comment captures the essence of why HN is largely anti AI. They feel their security and roles as software devs starting to devalue. Non coders are encroaching on their turf. A PM can do now what mid level devs did before. As AI continues to advance there will be less of a need for devs and the pool size of devs will start to shrink, as it already has. I understand the human reaction to this. It’s a hard situation to watch us being replaced by a machine. Especially after sitting at the top of the comp ranking for so many years. It’s a scary time.
Fsd is amazing. I use it daily, it completely changed my daily drive in that I don’t. All of my driving is now on fsd, I sit back and chill while the car takes me to my destination.
I have some open source code that’s used a lot in a certain area. I’ve been busy with work and am behind in maintaining it. Someone using AI has come along and fixed an enormous amount of bugs and implemented feature requests. It’s completely AI and I’m 100% fine with it. It solves real problems that I otherwise had no time for. I’m thankful for this person doing this.
I really think the hate is just masked jealousy, now project managers, tpms and line managers can submit rather substantial code. That wasn’t possible before and it took away some value from devs (I say this as a dev of more than 25 years). I watch PM fix issues now instead of waiting for a dev. I understand the anger but these tools are not going away
Yes. That’s not what I want to read on hn. You can go to Reddit or many other places for that and fill yourself with anger all you want. I personally do not want that for me and if hn continues the way it’s headed then I’ll block it like I did Reddit.
The political posts have definitely increased and the front page is increasingly filled with negative sentiment posts that leaves one angered and not filled with a positive light. For years I didn’t flag anything. Now I’m daily flagging political posts.
Generally the comments are heavily anti AI to the point where it almost seems like it’s a foreign adversary trying to mold the public opinion to be anti ai to slow the progress of AI advancement in the USA
As an avid fsd user, your list makes me more comfortable using fsd than not. If there were more you’d parrot it around, but in the end, fsd is safer than humans at the wheel. As much as you dislike it because of Musk, fsd will continue to march forward and improve and millions will use it. You are beta testing fsd even if you don’t want to be.
It’s happening not just in Spain but across most of Europe, the USA, and East Asia. But lots of Europe and the USA have immigration to offset the population decline. China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, are in dramatic population declines. Even India has stared to level off and expected to decline.
I think almost all of tech is bloated and massive layoffs wouldn’t phase most companies (though it would be harmful to people’s lives so it seems cruel to do this). Fewer people per teams means less context switching and devs own more. They don’t have to look for work, it will be in front of their face. In so many of these big tech companies I’ve worked at I’ve seen too many not having enough work to do. They end up creating meetings and other wasteful things (doc writing) to occupy their time. Managers and directors seem to want big bloated teams, the larger their head count the more they can demand and push for a promo.
Very different. Lots of cars other than Tesla have cameras. Cars record the surroundings on streets (and if Tesla, there’s no audio). Meta glasses are in your face and in very private social settings recording people in vulnerable situations, and as seen on TikTok vids, often used to get embarrassing reactions from people who don’t realize they are being recorded. Cameras on cars have a real purpose, self driving and to record accidents/vandalism
People (including me) are getting flat tires. There's an obstruction jutting out into the road in going west on 85th to South on 405. It's a few inches high, very sharp, and right into the pathway. We've filed a complaint but it's still there.
