roscas··on Little Snitch Shows Who Your Mac Talks To
Do not forget opensnitch https://github.com/evilsocket/opensnitch for Linux.

Fist program to be installed.

If you never used, you don't know what is "going" on the pc.

roscas··on Show HN: ArtCraft – Creative studio for images, video and 3D
Better option is to get the artcraft-launcher and it is so much easier to update the apps.

Thank you artcraft for this amazing apps.

roscas··on Meta Employees Denounce Interference in Brazilian Elections
Right, I think this will have zero mention on their meetings. The value of this block is zero.

On the other hand, this false protection, brings fake sense of security in people.

I do think it was Facebook paying for this.

roscas··on Greece passes social media ban for kids under 15
Facebook will respect this in never ever never not in a million gazillion light years!

It will just keep doing what is already in place. One app, four Facebook services on every "smartphone" so they keep following you even if you delete the app.

That sad minister was probably paid by Facebook to present a really nice text law and keep things as before.

roscas··on Mozilla "Come back to Firefox" video "reunites meme royalty"
In privacy terms, Firefox is the same thing as Chrome, the only diference is that one send the data to Google, the other is owned by Google.

So, it took me a few years but now I don't tell people to use Firefox, I tell people to use Chrome.

The sooner we shutdown Firefox, Google is in a break situation because it will own the full browser monopoly.

But we cannot let Google keep Firefox alive just to keep dominance.

roscas··on Sanctum, Linux desktop environment made with Rust and Freya
Source code? "Closed until I find it stable enough to be shared.". Makes no sense at all.
roscas··on RIP Virtual Box
Never was a great product, it was a gateway for Oracle cloud, nothing else. It was ok, not great. Latest version has stupid bugs and the program just disappears. Same as before.
roscas··on Addressing EU Cyber Resilience Act
So many things to do and they come up with this...

Facebook still manages to make smartphone makers to put spy software into it and people buy a spy device.

We could be here all day with those problems and much more.

roscas··on Show HN: Free Tool to Extract Tables from PDFs and Images to CSV/Excel
I really like these ads, "free tool" but site says "one-time payment".

Then "100% offline, private and secure" but when you drop a pdf it connects to the site and "Error processing document: Setting up fake worker failed: "Cannot load script at: https://parseextract.com/table-extraction-free/vendor/pdf.wo..."." because it could not get the js.

What will the js do? Extract offline? Send the pdf to the site? Who knows!

It is not offline, nor free.

roscas··on Open-weight models 88% more susceptible to cyber attacks
I also can design tests. A test with my local model got 0% downloads from malware command control center while closed models download malware.

We design the test we want, to make what we want to look good.

roscas··on AdFection: Targeted ads turned into a pipeline for zero-click mercenary spyware
"Researchers also recommend that users at high risk of targeting use ad blockers, disable ad tracking, and regularly reset mobile ad IDs.". Not "recommend". Everyone must use uBlock Origin or at least some type of ad blocker in every device.

Then also mandatory pi-hole on every house.

Even if you are used by Windows OS, you must use an adblocker. Even if you use Chrome. On every browser.

roscas··on EU citizens' private messages are run through Palantir's software
All we have to do is use Signal until AI breaks the encrypted messages, then move on to something else.

"Today, end-to-end encrypted messaging services such as WhatsApp, Messenger" yeah sure, end-to-end you mean, wait, end to end WhatApp is encrypted end to end and nobody including Facebook reads your messages or pic or video?

roscas··on Wanted to download an ISO, ended up writing a kernel exploit
Great story. The real lesson here is don't buy TP-Link crap. Once I bought one camera to watch my cats at night and the camera switched off soon as I cut the internet access. In that same second! Yes, found out pretty fast that the camera needs permanent internet to work, and that seems to be the case to all cameras. How and who in TP-Link though that "hum let's also record all our clients videos because you know, if they loose some footage, we will send them what they want!" Hum, after all, this might be a good service...
roscas··on Ask HN: How long before someone reverse-engineers Windows?
Oh so true, who would approve Windows in enterprise production environment? Who? You have to be crazy... oh wait, you mean the "ai" version??
roscas··on EC users should be afraid of a US kill switch – not some new software
True. And people don't have memory. Almost all the goals for 2026 were never done. That went on television where they replay the last year "we will do" and surprise, don't.

But if any of those in Europe saw that Flying Spaghetti Monster, they would create rules for it in a blink of an eye.

Rules for the flying speed, how the monster looks, what and if the monster can talk, taxes for the monster, because why not, and so on...

roscas··on Ask HN: How long before someone reverse-engineers Windows?
Oh so many backdoors will be found...
roscas··on EC users should be afraid of a US kill switch – not some new software
EC worried about Teams. Someone tell them about ME and other tech that has kill switch. The biggest problem is nobody in EC has a clue about what they are doing.
roscas··on I built a 100% client-side, privacy-first PDF utility at 18
Site is working now, tested and it converted a jpg into a pdf without touching the network. Nice.
roscas··on Someone rebuilt free, open-source versions of Adobe software using AI
Already is an alternative, as it works. I tried filmcraft and pdfcraft and it is an amazing job.
roscas··on Northstar Browser
Very very very early stagess I guess because I build it, run, close and it restarts. I want to close it, not restart, but let's continue.

Today, any browser to be called a "browser", has to have a few things like uBLock Origin ad blocker support or at least some other plugin support because we need not only to block all ads, we need to block domains and have lists for the block.

It would an amazing feature if the browser had a side bar that listed all connections the page is trying to make and have some buttons, yes or no to approve the connection and a "forever" option to remember the decision. The ad domains on the ublock origin lists or just put the lists on the browser, would be negated at start. That would be an amazing feature.

NSB after a few minutes of use, lost all settings, they are all unset. That is not good. The zoom is a feature that I guess it is being developed because it makes no sense so zoom the page and it gets lost to the right, without zoom the full page inside the browser window. Also having duckduckNO as a default search engine is strange but I understand it if they are supporting the project.

I was trying to make a few more tests as it does not open a non https site, but setting keep getting reset to none selected.

roscas··on Car Is Sharing Data with Big Tech
"But popular features sometimes won’t function without this step, and in some cases the vehicle can’t be driven at all. If a Tesla owner declines that company’s data-sharing agreement, they are shown the following warning: “This may result in your vehicle suffering from reduced functionality, serious damage, or inoperability.”"

Nothing new here. I think we all knew that. But those numbers of the bars are so very wrong, that is not correct for sure. The real values are way worst.

Then there is advice to opt out. You cannot opt out. Forget it. And remember that this is bad and illegal, but think twice before you find this bad. Ask yourself, do you have any "service" from Microsoft, Google or Facebook?

Even if you don't have a Facebook account, they still have their apps installed on your "smartphone" without you know it and they still track you day and night.

Now, think again, does this car collection data seems bad?

roscas··on Run Qwen 3.8 Flash Next (125B) on consumer hardware (RTX 4090) at 100T/s
I prefer https://ornith.ai/ornith_1_5.html to Qwen 3.8 not only because it is much faster on my hardware but better responses.

But this Qwen 3.8 Flash next coder is amazing running with Strata.

roscas··on Why Linux is picking up at a rapid pace for AI usage?
What? Do people use WSL to pretend they are on Linux? Is that a thing??

Noticed Ollama has a Windows version, ok, I just wonder why, but that is for desktop, but WSL? Does anyone really use that? And why?

roscas··on Run Qwen 3.8 Flash Next (125B) on consumer hardware (RTX 4090) at 100T/s
Yes, 3080 with 10GB, forgot to mention that.

Mine is at the moment writting some cpp code for some SBOM tests.

I have loads of terminals open. Librewolf, Chromium and you know how this crap likes ram, I have also a vm with 4gb of ram running and doing stuff while I wait for the results but hey, while I wrote this the program is done. Wow! That was 29.x tokens per second most of the time.

Oh I will run some other tests with hermes now because hermes is amazing too.

roscas··on Why Linux is picking up at a rapid pace for AI usage?
You say 'picking up' like anyone would ever use Windows to run hermes or even an AI model.
roscas··on Run Qwen 3.8 Flash Next (125B) on consumer hardware (RTX 4090) at 100T/s
Coder version with 30t/sec on a Ryzen 3600x with 48GB of RAM with a nvidia 3080.

This is not a very fast desktop. Memory speed is around 2000mhz only. My SSD is some of the worst SSD I've seen and 3080 had its days of glory.

I still have code, chromium, librewolf and many other programs running. I have video streams running while I also watch tv and many times youtube videos.

I use it with the browser that has a great dashboard and with hermes agent and that it really makes this amazing.Only change I made is to set thinking to low.

This is a coding model. Any other task, I still use Ornith 1.5 35B that throws 20t/sec and Laguna.XS-2.0.

roscas··on Anybody has experience with maintaining self hosted Git?
Last time I ran Gitlab free on a VM, I could feel how heavy it was. And complicated. So for self hosting I won't do that, nor for a company.

Gitea is amazing, small, fast. Does pipelines and all you want.

roscas··on Is startpage.com mining Bitcoin when you open it?
Thanks, but makes no sense to use 100% of the CPU power on the browser just to detect or stop AI scrapers?

Let's use all the power of a CPU during 30 seconds and save humanity from AI crap. Makes no sense at all.

Let's also make people wait 30 seconds to type something to search. People will just stop using this crap.

Thank you for your tip but this is beyong stupid. Let me just add startpage to blocked domains list.

Thanks again.

roscas··on One of China's Most Powerful AI Models Has Also Escaped Containment
"You’ve read your last free article.". Another one for the blocked list.

As always, have an uBlock Origin to block all the crap the site loads. Like all other sites also.

roscas··on Musk and Altman back Anthropic CEO on slowing AI down
