rsl7··on Rollerball pens that use fountain pen ink
Maybe it's the paper? I have a Lamy with a fine nib and it's amazing. I mostly use decent printer paper, but coarse paper like a typical composition book is not so great.
rsl7··on Not everyone has an internal monologue
I had no idea other people do this too. To me, it doesn't even feel intentional.
rsl7··on Show HN: Visualizing Your Life in Weeks
no need to enter your exact personal info to try it out.
rsl7··on Help me ask why you didn't just
this exactly.
rsl7··on Update Complete: U.S. Nuclear Weapons No Longer Need Floppy Disks
I had that Apple powerbook G3 that had two hot swap bays for batteries/hard drives/media players AND a PCMCIA slot. Oh, and built-in ethernet. I remember adding Firewire support via PCMCIA. Good times.
rsl7··on Vinyl set to outsell CDs for first time since 1986
Indeed. So many people seem not to realize that there will not be one final best source of music.

rsl7··on Uber will start deactivating riders with low ratings
It genuinely surprises me that you expect more from a ride than getting there.
rsl7··on Uber will start deactivating riders with low ratings
exactly. When you're being driven somewhere, "no problems" is 5/5.
rsl7··on Syntax highlighters are wrong (2014)
I love this article. Nice re-framing of color choices.

This makes me think it would be nice to have at least two functionally distinct comment types: remarks (to be visually hilighted), and temporarily disabled code (to be visually suppressed). I suppose comment lines (remarks) and comment blocks (code) could be used for this, but as the author points out this would need to be a widely adopted convention.

rsl7··on The humble receipt gets a redesign
So you're that person. I love it. keep it up.
rsl7··on ProtonMail now offers elliptic curve cryptography
I use both, and both are good. Fastmail does calendars and notes. Both have roughly equivalent keyboard shortcuts in the web apps.
rsl7··on Mate: Netflix browser extension for learning words via subtitles
Maybe dual-language novels are what you're thinking of?
rsl7··on Mate: Netflix browser extension for learning words via subtitles
Maybe sync subtitles with a mobile device.
rsl7··on Mate: Netflix browser extension for learning words via subtitles
I would use this all the time.
rsl7··on Why isn't bamboo wood a bigger industry?
Well, for one thing, it grows incredibly fast, and spreads like a weed (some types, anyway).
rsl7··on Survey: 1 In 4 Adults Checks Phone Less Than A Minute After Waking Up
the normal argument for analogue gauges is the additional information they convey in terms of context. might not matter for your clock. but most of the time the specific minute doesn't matter, so it's unnecessary detail. I'm not translating the analog clock image to numbers in my head; the image of the hands, the spacing of the minute hand - the quadrant it is in and how close it is to the boundary is enough. digital clocks dominate our digital environment though, .. so whatever.
rsl7··on Comma-Separated Tree
It's a superset of csv, what's the problem?
rsl7··on Electron and the Decline of Native Apps
Ok, so wait. If native Mac apps were better when the market was much smaller, what gives?
rsl7··on Governor signs bill requiring California corporate boards to include women
Thank you. Instead of acknowledging this reality, many here seem to be proposing technical ways to get around it.
rsl7··on The Hidden Cost of Touchscreens
That is better... but does the shifter really glow blue?
rsl7··on Racing for Realism
...but the whole point of the effects in those movies is to bring the idea to life, to make the unbelievable seem real and believable. If it fails to do that, it’s not silly to discuss how and why.
rsl7··on Face ID beaten by mask
well.. if you have already advanced to the point where you're making a mask, I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to heat it up a bit.

rsl7··on iPad Pro 10.5 for Software Development
so.. two iPads!
rsl7··on Ask HN: Why does visual programming suck?
Yes, there are probably lots of useful interaction methods to be found in between text files and the "boxes and arrows" visual programming (circuit design) model.
rsl7··on Inventor who built an Iron Man-style flight suit has flown it at TED
Sounds like the next extreme sport. rocket up.. wingsuit/parachute down.
