rufusroflpunch··on Orion Browser
I will hop on that gravy train as well.
rufusroflpunch··on Nostr: Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays
I am thoroughly addicted to nostr. I've been building a browser extension for Safari for it, and I feel like I'm part of something amazing being built.
rufusroflpunch··on Nostr: Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays
Damus is great and my client of choice. However, the TestFlight beta might still be filled up. If it is, I would recommend pairing a web client with an extension like nos2x/alby (chrome/firefox) or nostore (Safari).

https://www.nostr.directory

This tool lets you broadcast your pub key on twitter using a specified format, and the app will add you to the directory, and you can use it to find others that have also done that.

Also, if you go to https://snort.social/new, you can enter your twitter handle, and it will find everyone from you're twitter follows that you're not already following and let you sign up to follow them all.

rufusroflpunch··on Microsoft to lay off 11k employees
What are you getting at, exactly? Are you implying they don't need to fire these people, they just want to? Or are you saying they think they need it, but they really don't?
rufusroflpunch··on We need a lot more electricians
We're not going to electrify everything.
rufusroflpunch··on The number of banks willing to do business with the crypto industry is shrinking
I don’t think this one example they provided is indicative. Didn’t the BIS just give their okay for banks to hold 2% of reserves in Bitcoin? Also, didn’t FASB just change their accounting rules to make businesses holding crypto easier on the balance sheet?

Presumably demand is going in the opposite direction that this blurb would indicate.

rufusroflpunch··on A16Z is the “worst and largest” scammer of all, says CEO of Swan Bitcoin (2022)
They have managed to concoct a system where people have locked billions in staking while keeping only a tiny fraction of their own Eth staked. Vitalik’s addresses have sold tens of millions while all these users have staked with no way out until the overlords decide to implement it.

These are not the actions of a true believer.

rufusroflpunch··on A16Z is the “worst and largest” scammer of all, says CEO of Swan Bitcoin (2022)
Swan Bitcoin is a service for buying Bitcoin, an asset that they do not control or have any influence over. Not remotely the same thing as pumping and dumping token after token.
rufusroflpunch··on Helium Mobile
Never trust a project with its own token.

The simple answer to this is to pay less attention to driving!
rufusroflpunch··on Mozilla to explore healthy social media alternative
I have to say, I think nostr shows a lot of promise. I think there is something special there.
rufusroflpunch··on Binance freezes withdrawals of stablecoin USDC as investors pull $2B
Sorry, I did not mean to insinuate anything resembling cover for these stablecoins. I do not own any and I never would. In fact, I only own Bitcoin and I don’t keep any on any exchange at all. This is the only way I would ever recommend when interacting with cryptocurrencies.
rufusroflpunch··on Binance freezes withdrawals of stablecoin USDC as investors pull $2B
I think that is a fair critique, but that will be coming at some point, very likely. Either a law requiring 100% liquid reserves, or a law bringing them into the FDIC system.
rufusroflpunch··on Binance freezes withdrawals of stablecoin USDC as investors pull $2B
It’s not really any less of a dollar than any other dollar is. All of our digital dollars are just bank liabilities. Circle and Tether are just banks with dollar liabilities. Their liabilities can be transferred on crypto networks rather than traditional bank wires.
rufusroflpunch··on Secretary Granholm to announce major scientific breakthrough by DOE [video]
No, think of it like burning oil. Imagine it took >1 barrel of oil's worth of energy to burn a barrel of oil. That would be inefficient. So, we're trying to find solutions to trigger that burning with less input energy.

They're not creating energy, they're basically releasing energy stored over from the Big Bang. Triggering that release with less input energy than output energy is an engineering problem.

rufusroflpunch··on The Twitter Files
Joe Biden was a lifelong U.S. Senator, Vice President and a Presidential candidate. They were providing lists of people to silence, just weeks before he was elected as President. And you're arguing that because he was TECHNICALLY a private citizen at the time while the highest levels of Twitter was working at his campaign's behest to make sure he got elected President, that is somehow NOT a first amendment violation?

I would not be surprised to find out sometime that there are judges who might disagree with you on that point.

rufusroflpunch··on The Twitter Files
I think it's a blatant first amendment violation. Twitter are acting as agents to state to silence individuals. The federal government cannot pick and choose who gets to speak.
rufusroflpunch··on Let crypto burn
What incredible feat of mental gymnastics if in this video?
rufusroflpunch··on The erasure of women from online pregnancy literature
There are some subjects for which it is not possible to have a productive discussion at all anywhere, and this is one of them. This is an ideological difference so strong that it makes it difficult for the opposing views to even share a society.
rufusroflpunch··on Crypto dominoes fall in the wake of FTX's collapse
I would argue it's not necessarily a problem to have liabilities for which you do not have assets on hand, whether it's Bitcoin or some security. The difference between these two situations is:

1) FTX didn't even bother listing their customer liabilities on their balance sheet, unlike Citadel.

2) I would assume (hope) that Citadel isn't a completely fraudulent company without the capital to make good on those assets if delivery is demanded!

rufusroflpunch··on Crypto dominoes fall in the wake of FTX's collapse
This is like pretending there’s no difference between USD and Turkish Lira. There are substantial and material differences between Bitcoin and nearly all other cryptocurrencies.
rufusroflpunch··on Crypto dominoes fall in the wake of FTX's collapse
It matters a bit, as it seemed that FTX had $1+ billion in Bitcoin customer liabilities which have evaporated.
rufusroflpunch··on Crypto dominoes fall in the wake of FTX's collapse
Hopefully it is just a matter of them still trying to figure out the depth and nature of the crimes.
rufusroflpunch··on Crypto dominoes fall in the wake of FTX's collapse
Crypto is a tiny, tiny fraction of global ponzi markets like government bonds or real estate. There is not nearly enough liquidity in crypto to make a difference in those.

rufusroflpunch··on FTX fiasco sparks billions of dollars of outflows from exchanges
These things come in waves. Every cycle is the same: People come in for the gains and pump and dumps, then they get wrecked when the tide goes out. Some of them learn their lesson and move from a trading model to a savings model. They withdraw and hold for the long term in a wallet they control.

Then we start again with a new generation.

rufusroflpunch··on Crypto exchange AAX suspends withdrawals
In Lebanon, people are robbing banks to get their own money out. Maybe they are a little bit more comfortable than you are with holding keys to an unseizable asset.
