Super cool!

btw, you have a typo in the learn more section, the readme link ends in .mg

rwinn··on Show HN: Triggy – Open-source DSLR intervalometer for iOS
Hoping to get some help implementing support for other cameras, this was too much of a niche app for it to make sense for me to do it solo.

I'm planning to break the PTP/IP framework out to a separate module so it can be reused by other apps as well.

rwinn··on Show HN: Spotter – Search for copies of videos on the internet
Impressive results! Even where the original is distorted and mixed with other videos it's detected. I take it you use a different technique than spotter?
rwinn··on Show HN: Spotter – Search for copies of videos on the internet
Got the results now, posted one of my own videos I know has been reuploaded multiple times:

    0 total copies were found
    with 0 total views
Original: https://vimeo.com/132700334

Some known re-uploads:

Great concept, would love if it actually worked.

Jumped through the hoops and signed up to submit my own video, still "Queued to analyze..." after 1h.

rwinn··on The richest families in Florence in 1427 are still the richest (2016)
This is purely anecdotal, but I live in Florence and know a couple of people from the "old-money" families and they are not rich by todays standard. They make a modest living renting out and managing the properties handed down through the generations and have to be frugal to make it work.

Also, you should be very sceptical of any study made using Italian tax records as a data source :D

rwinn··on Little Snitch 3 – Protect your privacy
First thing I install on any new system, couldn't recommend it more!

And the ability to do per-application captures and open them in wireshark is excellent for debugging.

rwinn··on The First Roman Fonts
If anyone is looking for these as usable fonts I found this french designer Gilles Le Corre - http://www.gilleslecorre.com/pages/fonts.html - who makes a lot of fonts based of old manuscripts and books.

rwinn··on Upload files to your repositories
I'm a bit confused, this is a simple git add or some sort of integration with git lfs they released last year?

rwinn··on Show HN: Wsq – WebSocket task queues
No I'm using https://github.com/maxogden/multiplex

Didn't know about jschan, would be interesting to see a performance comparison between the two.

rwinn··on Show HN: Wsq – WebSocket task queues
Found the problem and pushed a fix, should me much smoother now.

It was Firefox's SVGPathElement::getPointAtLength implementation that was slow, working around it by caching all the calls to it.

rwinn··on Show HN: Wsq – WebSocket task queues
Btw, if anyone is wondering why the workers run so slow when in a background tab, it is because most browsers throttle setTimeout's to run max once a second when the browser window looses focus. (web workers does not have this problem but for the demo i figured it would be fun to watch the workers do their thing)
rwinn··on Show HN: Wsq – WebSocket task queues
Yep, I can reproduce it on OS X with FF 42.0 as well. Going to see if i can find what's causing the low framerate.
rwinn··on Show HN: Wsq – WebSocket task queues
That sucks. I'm using d3.js to animate svg elements, runs smoothly on my machine, what browser/os are you on?
rwinn··on Show HN: Wsq – WebSocket task queues
Not exactly, it is a task queue that allows workers to be run in the browser.

If you could break your problem up in to lots of small isolated tasks it could be used like that

rwinn··on Software That Lasts 200 Years (2004)
Sorry for the downvote, I meant to hit up and I can't seem to change it
rwinn··on Free Lossless Image Format
Wow! Higher compression than any other format, full transparency support, progressive/partial loading AND animations?! I can't wait for this to get widespread adoption!

Github repo here btw: https://github.com/jonsneyers/FLIF

rwinn··on Hoffice: work at someone's home
It's not imposed.

"But even though there is a structure, you are very welcome to ignore it, keep working while the others take breaks, come and go whenever you want. The structure is there to help us, not to limit us."

rwinn··on Informative YouTube channels
Another great channel is Cody's Lab.

It's basically a guy doing Minecraft IRL, digging, mining ore, smelting it building tools etc. Even a video on how to make gunpowder from hay and your own pee!

Theremins are awesome, me and a friend made a theremin app for iPhone a couple years back. Check it out on http://theremin.io

Hope you don't mind the plug :)

rwinn··on Fuzzysearch: Tiny, fast fuzzy searching for JavaScript
Look at it this way, it's a collaborative effort to write the most efficient function.
rwinn··on Master Password
Great idea! And kudos for releasing it as free software.

But I don't see how "nothing to intercept" is a security feature. That means an attacker can start brute forcing just knowing the victims name instead of having to obtain the encrypted files first.

rwinn··on A New Algorithm Reveals the Hidden World of Imperceptible Motion
It would be interesting (and probably very funny) to apply this to a video of a person trying to stand as still as possible.
rwinn··on Finding gravitational n-body choreographies
Very cool! I can't wait until we become a type III civilisation and have animated constellations to look up at.

It would be interesting to know how fast they need to move and close you would need to place them to your home planet for the animation to be fast enough so you can observe a full loop in a couple of minutes.

rwinn··on Q&A with Mark Zuckerberg
Top comment (for me):

Hello Zuck, I would like to ask that when our facebook fanpage's reach will be come back? its too frustrating having 100k -likes with only 1k, 2k reach ,& 1m likes with only 10k, 20k reach .. sometimes too low

Don't destroy our hard work and efforts, we want organic reach back !!! im not the only one who is unhappy with pages post reach . , Hope u are not ignoring my comment . thanks

(i also wanted to know that is there any source to reach you ? if there is, i want to know..and if none..do establish one... a good idea can come from anywhere..from anyone.. )
I've also experienced this, you're only able to reach 5-10% of your fans without paying. Only way of getting a message out to all your fans is to "boost" your post, which will cost you around 0.015 EUR per like the page has. [1]

And on top of that if you ever used Facebook ads to get likes to your page, a majority of those are fake. [2]

[1] Based on my rough calculations on a couple of pages I run.
