ryan_n··on Three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics
A short history of doing bad things is still a history of doing bad things..

> Attribution is important

Amazing how quickly people forget how these AI companies gained their fortune. The whole existence of modern LLM's is due to taking (stealing) other peoples work without attribution.

> what matters is the journey of human knowledge

This is probably a lot easier to accept when you haven't dedicated your entire life to a specific field of research, and then are made significantly less relevant by a machine.

ryan_n··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
Serious question: why would he be "heavily" quoted in physics books? I didn't think he was a physicist, is he?
ryan_n··on F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS
In the "Read On" section at the bottom it says "Author's notes: The one page written by a human." Seems they're pretty open about everything being written with Claude.

> They study this. [Gen Z is 10x more accepting of violence to suppress speech they object to compared to Boomers.](https://expression.fire.org/p/gen-z-is-10-times-more-accepti...)

Seems like this is a direct result of being more exposed to the internet. I'm not sure it's their fault when they are raised with ipads in their lap and multi-billion dollar corporations are shoving propaganda (both sides) down everyone's throat 24/7. I wonder if boomers and gen x would feel the same if they grew up the same way.

> It seems history really does repeat. People are going to need to experience some authoritarianism to remember why we care so much about free speech.

Not sure making people experience authoritarianism is the best way to make people remember why free speech is important. That seems more extreme than anything I've read on Reddit lately. Surely there are better solutions.

ryan_n··on Imagine an AI future where being banned means you are now economically useless
This is correct, even just google alone. Most people have their entire lives linked in some way or another to their email address. One ban and you're pretty screwed...
ryan_n··on R/open source bans all solo projects and projects using LLMs
I don't think it's that simple. I don't agree with them banning anything AI related. However, I used to frequent several programming related subereddits that overtime became unbearable because every other post is someone posting an obviously vibe coded horrible slop project. I don't think it's an easy problem to solve on a forum like Reddit.
ryan_n··on New AI Is More Than Twice as Good at Diagnosing Diseases as Doctors
If I needed someone to build me a complicated application, I would choose the software developer with 20 years of experience before LLM's were capable of helping software developers that uses LLM's to assist over the software developer with 1 year of experience that never learned to code and just uses LLM's for everything but is clueless as to how any of it works.

Same thing with doctors.

ryan_n··on The Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” is deceiving
I dont see how this film "exposes ones internal biases"?
ryan_n··on Tesla Roadster
Right, I don't care about those things either...
ryan_n··on Tesla Roadster
People are allowed to criticize things, and many of them are valid criticisms. Personally I'm a lot more interested in what SpaceX is doing in...space. I don't really care at all about this whole flying car thing because who does this really benefit? Pretty much nobody if you think about it.
ryan_n··on Tesla Roadster
You would not be the one with the flying car lol

Nitrate ridden processed meat already has a “may cause cancer” sticker on it (unless you mean a literal sticker warning when you buy meat from stores?):

ryan_n··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Most likely that is more caused by fear of mass immigration (which is valid) and propaganda on social media.
ryan_n··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
I'm not trying to be inflammatory but just thought it was kind of funny that one could say the same about your own comment but just swap the placement of the words Europe and American. I think unless someone pulls up actual stats on quality of life and all that just saying what people feel is kind of meaningless.
ryan_n··on End the H-1B Program
This is absolutely hilarious and so incredibly misguided... I promise you that Mohamed the neurosurgeon is not the reason your children are not able to become doctors.
ryan_n··on CSS-Tricks in Limbo
I strongly disagree. I listened to a few of his interviews (one was the 5 hour long lex interview), and read the entirety of his more inflammatory blog posts. In one of them he specifically says he doesn't like modern London because it's not full of native british people, but what he really means is he doesn't like it because it's not full of white british people. Of course he doesn't say this outright but if you look up the statistics he sites you can see for yourself that he excludes asian, black and mixed british people from the statistic he lists. This is just one specific example.

I do think he also supports merit based immigration, but that doesn't mean he's not racist. He also very openly supports very extreme right wing political figures that promote things like ethnic cleansing. If you look into it more, he is pretty blatantly racist.

ryan_n··on There's a 100% Chance AI Agents Are Ruining the Internet
They’re writing about it though, I think was the “got em”.
ryan_n··on CSS-Tricks in Limbo
Based on his own blog post (https://web.archive.org/web/20250925050154/https://world.hey...) I would argue he does come off as racist.

There are a lot of non-white british people (just like there are non-white americans), and he basically ignores that entire population. He assumes that you are only british if you are white and that london is worse now because there are less whites there. That has nothing to do with meritocracy, and arguable little to do with cultural non-fit.

There's a lot more to unpack in that article aside from just that, but that is the most blatantly obvious one.. And for what it's worth, I don't disagree with DHH on mass immigration. But he seems to have a lot more severe beliefs than just "mass immigration is bad".

ryan_n··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
How is that the same thing at all? You didn't understand the comment you replied to and were confidently wrong. The person replying to you understood what you were saying very clearly and didn't make any ridiculous "you may not last long" comments like you did...
ryan_n··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
Do you enjoy it still (if you did before)?
ryan_n··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
The truth is people just don't seem care about code quality anymore (if they ever did?). I don't think it generates great code (yes even using the state of the art, frontier, super max pro 9000 turbo boost ++ models), but it usually generates code that works. Sadly, that's all that most of the people in charge care about. I mean shit, half the time it doesn't even have to work great, look at the state of a lot of modern software. People complain about it all the time. Quite sad, but that seems to just be the state of things these days.

They announced a new expansion for Warcraft III this past weekend actually. So they are definitely still trying : )
ryan_n··on Blizzard Revives 'StarCraft' Franchise with Open-World Sci-Fi Shooter
This is pretty typical for a new blizzard game. For example Diablo 3 and 4 were both announced 4 years prior to release. Not saying it’s good or bad, but it’s not unusual.

What I meant more is that the dataset they scrape is openly available for download by anyone, unlike any of the frontier labs. Not that they don’t scrape copyrighted content. Still sketch, but at least they don’t call themselves “OpenLAION”.

Also my understanding was they’re not storing the actual music, but the metadata and a link to the YouTube video.
