sabatier··on Ask HN: More programmer friendly alternatives to Evernote?
I recommend Trello. I switched over to Trello precisely because of the annoying formatting issues in Evernote. I like it because of its simplicity - it uses Arial size 10 for everything, and you can lay out all your to do lists on one page. I find that Evernote is too fiddly.
sabatier··on Ask HN: How can I increase my 'clock speed' in problem solving?
OK, this was relevant to the original post.
sabatier··on Ask HN: How can I increase my 'clock speed' in problem solving?
I'm a woman.
sabatier··on Ask HN: How can I stop being jealous of people who succeed before me?
The more you let it get you down the more you are doomed to failure in future. Jealous thoughts will zap your motivation which is certainly NOT what you want.

It's the people who are able to nip these jealous thoughts in the bud and plough on with single-handed determination that will have the last laugh.

sabatier··on Paul Graham Says...
oh Lord... I bet he'll love this.
sabatier··on [dead]
I can't understand the negativity expressed towards this article. I bet if the 'I'm a girl' part had been omitted there wouldn't be half as much vitriol.
sabatier··on Time.is
This is gorgeous.
sabatier··on How I Feel Reading HN Lately
My sentiments exactly. What's up people?
sabatier··on Ask HN: is it just my eyes?
I noticed the fonts always render poorly in Windows. But apart from that, the actually css design should look the same (unless of course you're using IE).
sabatier··on Planes overhead
Does not work over the UK. Grrrr
sabatier··on Do a barrel roll - Google Search
Yeah but presumably 'do a barrel roll' is intended as a kind of easter egg that only a select few will discover to their intense joy.
sabatier··on Famous Logos Designed Entirely in CSS
You have to weigh up the 'coolness' of such CSS trickery with the amount of extra HTML code there is, when you could have just used an image!
sabatier··on Facebook is Why Students are so Miserable
You're dead right. But most people don't realize the power of thought and how it affects our mood and determines the course of our entire lives. Comparing ourselves with others is a sure way to make ourselves feel worse. Facebook just provides us with an easy opportunity to do that.
sabatier··on Apple.com gets a redesign
Looks like a known bug in Chromium at least: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=29427
sabatier··on The Myth of Female Software Developers
When I was choosing what degree to do at university I didn't even consider computer science because I hadn't been exposed to computer science education before that so I didn't know what it was like and that I might be interested in it. I went to an all-girls school so it was probably assumed that girls would have no interest in it, in the same way that I wasn't offered courses in other typically male-oriented subjects like woodworking, mechanics etc. It wasn't until I took a computer science module as part of my business degree that I developed an interest in it and decided to do a masters in it.

So for me, the main reason I didn't study it at undergraduate level is that I simply wasn't exposed to it enough during my formative years to develop an interest in it, not through any perceived mathematical difficulty or that it is sometimes seen as a solitary activity.

sabatier··on Why you should never, ever use two spaces after a period
Worse than using two spaces is using no spaces at all. Intolerable.
sabatier··on Oxford Undergrad CS Admission Interview Problems
Charles did not go to Oxford. In fact, I'm pretty sure none of the current British royal family attended Oxford.
sabatier··on Great Men Keep Journals
I used to keep a journal and found it very therapeutic writing my innermost thoughts and then as I got older I'd laugh at the things that stressed me out when I was younger. Then my mum found it one day and started reading it and that put an end to it... I've tried doing it online but it's just not the same as writing it in a beautifully bound journal and flicking through the pages.
sabatier··on The Decline Effect and the Scientific Method : The New Yorker
I take from this article that the decline effect is merely an illusion. What initially appears to be a scientific breakthrough is found out to be nothing more than (i) random noise or (ii) hype resulting from publication bias (publish only the positive results and ignore the negative).
