sachkris··on Nalanda: The university that changed the world (2023)
Also, Taxila/Takshila here in Sanskrit is तक्षशिला (takṣaśilā).
sachkris··on Who won the Amstel Gold Race? Human error in photo-finishes
Nice write-up. Instead of these photo-finish cameras, would a piezoelectric sensor strip on the road (plus perhaps a regular camera) be a better solution to judge the winner in such cases?
sachkris··on Show HN: 1MB – Free and easy static website hosting and database
Awesome service! Thanks for making it available.

A small comment: In the 'Edit Site' page, the preview is reloading with every keystroke. Would it be better to make it refresh on the click of a button?

sachkris··on India’s Space Agency Hits New Milestone With Satellite Launch
The coverage in Indian media has all been in praise of the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). You can check these links to get a flavour (please use adblock):

sachkris··on Show HN: Customizing ubuntu for the likes of a developer
Arch maybe a better starting point than Ubuntu
sachkris··on The misleading stream of articles about scientific studies
This sounds like a good idea. But, it may not be possible in most of the hard sciences. Imagine writing an 800-word layman's summary for some results in string theory.
sachkris··on How to print things
Most wall calendars I have seen follows this "Möbius double-sided" pattern.
sachkris··on Who's downloading pirated papers? Everyone
The first three paragraphs of the article clearly tells what is wrong with the system - "Publishers are overcharging for content". Basically, they just continued their business model from the printed-book era to the e-book era without much change. The publishers should think of allowing individuals to subscribe to the content and charge them (nominally) for what they use, rather than putting the load on the Universities and making them subscribe the entire spectrum of journals. The Pay-per-view model of Elsevier currently charges an individual researcher (a staggering) "$31.50 per article or chapter for most Elsevier content. Select titles are priced between $19.95 and $41.95 (subject to change)." [0]

sachkris··on Who Was Ramanujan?
Towards the end, it reminded me of the book "Gödel, Escher, Bach".
sachkris··on GitHub has 11,995,200 open issues
No, 403 implies the resource is unavailable even after authorization. 401 Unauthorized maybe the right one here.
sachkris··on GitHub has 11,995,200 open issues
It is not 404. You need to log in.
sachkris··on US Ranks 41st in Press Freedom Index Thanks to 'War on Whistleblowers'

Surprising to see that Singapore is at 154 and there is Eritrea below North Korea.

sachkris··on Tatsuo Horiuchi: The 73-year old Excel spreadsheet artist (2013)
> Basically set cell height and width to 1 and you have a pixel grid. Use formulas to drive values which drives conditional formatting.

I was expecting something like this when I read "Excel spreadsheet artist" in the title.
