saddlerustle··on Claude Fable 5
AISI found the release version of mythos preview outperformed GPT-5.5 https://x.com/AISecurityInst/status/2054589763173126339
saddlerustle··on Show HN: Zot – Yet another coding agent harness
It's not allowed, it spoofs claude code's requests.

https://github.com/patriceckhart/zot/blob/main/packages/prov...

saddlerustle··on Cloudflare to introduce pay-per-crawl for AI bots
This ends up being pretty bad for competition because it does not block the largest AI scraper of them all: Googlebot.
saddlerustle··on Waymo to begin testing on San Francisco freeways this week
Waymo was not doing public rides in 2015. It was invite only and you had to sign an NDA
saddlerustle··on Waymo to begin testing on San Francisco freeways this week
AutoX and Pony.ai in China have been been offering rides to the public with no safety driver for much longer than Waymo
saddlerustle··on Nintendo blitzes GitHub with over 8k emulator-related DMCA takedowns
The overarching terms of the DMCA are specified by the 1996 WIPO Copyright Treaty, which every developed country has implemented.
saddlerustle··on S3 Express Is All You Need
That’s not true anymore with EFS Elastic Throughput
saddlerustle··on I think I need to go lie down
The gpt4-turbo api is now deterministic
saddlerustle··on Canadians will no longer have access to news content on Facebook and Instagram
They do actually, if they're roaming on a Canadian SIM
saddlerustle··on WhatsApp would not remove end-to-end encryption for UK law, says chief
The consequence for not obliging with the online safety bill is pulling out from the UK market. The consequence for ignoring legally sound US court orders is Meta executives going to jail.
saddlerustle··on WhatsApp would not remove end-to-end encryption for UK law, says chief
It's false. The OP is probably confusing it for the option of encrypting the backup with a 64-digit key (which is ~212 bits)
saddlerustle··on Sony's Legal Attack on Quad9, Censorship, and Freedom of Speech
The DMCA is the US’s implementation of the 1996 WIPO copyright treaty, which almost the entire developed world has ratified.
saddlerustle··on Tell HN: Domain fronting to be blocked on Azure
It’s too late. Whole countries block all eSNI requests, so it’s always going to fail open.
saddlerustle··on FTX to file for U.S. bankruptcy, CEO resigns
FTX was making a killing, so its token that paid out trading fees was worth a lot. To bail out trading losses in Alameda, FTX sent it cash in exchange for a bunch of its own token. This might have worked out fine, except now the moment everyone expects FTX to go bankrupt, it's bankrupt.
saddlerustle··on Much US “recycling” goes straight to the landfill
In terms of CO2 per unit energy burning plastic is much worse than burning natural gas (and much much worse than any zero carbon source). Energy is fungible, there's no reason to encourage producing CO2 when it's possible not to.
saddlerustle··on Global Encryption Day: Demand End-to-End Encryption in DMs
> What I find intriguing is that E2EE was significantly more common long ago than it is today.

This is absurd. Today a large fraction of the world's population is using E2EE via WhatsApp.

saddlerustle··on Meta Quest Pro
Ironically this is exactly what they were trying to avoid by just requiring a Facebook account for everything
saddlerustle··on WhatsApp Remote Code Execution in Video Call
Telegram implements video calling using bunch of sketchy C code same as WhatsApp and Signal. There's no reason to think it's less vulnerable these sort of bugs.
saddlerustle··on WhatsApp Remote Code Execution in Video Call
Notably on iOS there's no good way to isolate unsafe native libraries from the rest of your app without violating app store policies, because Apple enforces apps to be single process and doesn't allow use of its own sandboxing apis.
saddlerustle··on Systems and Cost Analysis for Nuclear Subterrene Tunneling Machine (1973) [pdf]
Why does efficiency matter at all? Tunneling costs thousands of times more than the energy cost.
saddlerustle··on Ask HN: Anyone else feels the commoditization of real estate is unethical?
Plenty of people rent single family units.
saddlerustle··on Ask HN: Anyone else feels the commoditization of real estate is unethical?
If companies can't own houses, and people can't own more than their primary residence, where should renters live?
saddlerustle··on Thermal Pad ‘Mod’ Makes M2 MacBook Air Faster Than 13″ M2 Pro
Various product safety standards and some states' regulations requires the surface temperature of devices not exceed ~50°C
saddlerustle··on Uber pays millions resolving DOJ lawsuit for overcharging disabled people
Uber stopped being able to punish drivers for cancelling due to the employee status lawsuits.
saddlerustle··on EU Digital Markets Act, aimed at Google, Apple, Amazon, approved
> Also, you can be sure that the driver doesn't live in poverty [1] or works ridiculous hours.

You absolutely can't. Taxi drivers are independent contractors in most european countries too, with no minimum wage protections or enforcement of hours worked.

saddlerustle··on Google Cloud (Europe-west2) is experiencing downtime
Air conditioning emits less CO2 than heating. Emissions would be lower if europe was hotter and everyone had AC
saddlerustle··on Renewables remain cheapest, but cost reductions on hold
Significant new pumped storage capacity requires building large new dams, which is even more unpopular in populated areas than building nuclear.
saddlerustle··on Taking action against scraping for hire
Users make information available on facebook with the expectation that they are able to later control access to it (other than the obvious threat model of screenshotting, etc). This is violating that expectation and thus their privacy.
saddlerustle··on TITO: Electric Argentine car
The TITO is virtually identical to products from the Chinese white label EV manufacturer "Today Sunshine"[1]. I bet this is a made in China, assembled in Argentina type deal at best.

saddlerustle··on LUMI, Europe’s most powerful supercomputer
A supercomputer comparable to mid-size hyperscaler DC. (and no, it doesn't have uniquely good interconnect, it's broadly on par with the HPC GPU instances available from AWS and Azure)
