But FB is not for getting news about the topics I like; because, IMHO like the OP, Facebook news feed is broken for this purpose. Yes it is broken if you like to get news and information related to your interests. The prime reason, which I have discovered over the years of using FB, is I like things which my friends do not like a lot and vice-versa. I cannot blame Facebook for this. So when they like something which I do not, I still get the news in the feed. The same thing is happening in Twitter.
I felt that it would be better if we can follow information we like rather than the people we like. This way we will be able to get the information that we want/like rather than the noise. A critical step towards this is tags and if we can follow a tag it would be better [1].
[1] Disclaimer: I have created a website to do just that. Link is https://www.scoopspot.com/ .
We built ScoopSpot[1] to make microblog better, one of the core proposition was to allow the application developers work with the statuses more openly. However, it didn't caught attention of the people. One interesting aspect of ScoopSpot was to allow user follow a tag or topic.
The possibility of application built on what users' interests are limitless (at least that's what I think). I will look into the protocol of OStatus to see how can we make our API's open. [1]https://www.scoopspot.com
The problem seems like an issue of making profit by showing promotional tweets, which will not happen in the clients. It, to me, looks like the problem of management which could not come up with better revenue model.
The point is, profit has to be booked to be realized. My question to PG is how does YC decide when to sell?
addfs.com is inspired by the mount command in Unix OS. Just as mount command enables the ability of accessing multiple external devices using the same API i.e. Unix File System, addfs.com enables users to access multiple cloud storage (Box, Dropbox and Google Drive) through the same interface (HTML and Rest).

Is it all over and out? Any one who haven't got anything yet?
A good way to find trend in books about a programming language and github/google code like sites. So going for Scala now may to give you any advantage in the next 5 years or so.
Try doing the following to reduce bugs:
1.Write a lot of unit test cases covering all know scenarios that you have in your spec or mind. This only assures that there are no bugs in your set of test cases, however there could be bugs lying out side your test case set.
2.Before changing your code check if you have test cases written for the code. If not do step 1.
3.Have good logging for your code in action. If a bug is found later it will help you to root cause it.
4.If you are in object oriented programming try to replace if else codes with polymorphism. Its difficult but if you can it will either reduce logical bugs or help you find them quickly as they unfold.
5.Test for all if and else conditions. All if condition with complex logical arguments (using AND / OR) must be checked for all conditions.
6.Learn from your mistakes in coding and try not to repeat them.
That said, its easier said than done. I would follow this thread how other suggests and learn.
Although, I do not see any harm behind the idea of improving your balance sheet. However I feel very strongly that SOPA will do more harm than good. My main concern is - SOPA has potential to change the fundamental way we interact with the Internet. Many have pointed out that, the change will put constrain on how we build and use the internet. This might have a negative impact. If it happens it will impact the companies also. The long tail will be threatened if not vanished and that will impact the bottom line one day.
It may take some time but what the hell if you really want to understand something you got a give everything to it.
I started in a big software service shop in India. Worked for amazing clients (I cannot name them here). Some of the technology that I have worked on - Java, Lisp (yep got paid for working in common lisp), C/C++, Hadoop, JavaScript, etc. After working for 4 years I decided to move on. But I got Job in one of the news companies. Worked there for more that 1.5 years in (C# and Java). Now working in a banking product based company.
After all these years (not that much though), I have come to the conclusion that - you need to be a techie to survive software industry. I have defined growth as: learn a new language every 6 months. Do something extra like open source. I know, I may not get hefty pay packets like the managers in India but I have chosen this path. I am happy with that.
For you I believe you have identified your areas for improvement. You just need to think deep why the schedule failed? Find and read some books Mythical Man Month and Peopleware. Chances are that people have already been there and done that - so learn from them and try to adapt and apply in your case.
Moreover, before you do anything else just ask yourself what do you really want to be - a manager or a techie. Once you have the answer get going with that flow.
