Also, in San Francisco a lot of the "paint" in the crosswalks is little plastic pellets melted. I have had my rear wheel slide out going over the thick white crosswalk bars. Best to keep off the throttle and roll over them. Same for the giant metal plates they use to cover up ongoing construction projects. They can be very slippery.
Dividend Finance is helping homeowners install solar panels and taking advantage of the 26% U.S federal tax credit. We also lend for home improvement projects.
We have open positions for mid and senior Clojure/Clojurescript developers to help build web applications and APIs used by our installers and employees.
Our stack includes a Clojure web app deployed on Heroku with Clojurescript, Postgresql, Github, Box, Docusign, and Salesforce. We have a small team (~12 devs), so you will have a big impact and get the opportunity to wear a lot of hats including (code implementation, architecture, product features, UX design, development lifecycle, testing). You will be responsible for influencing our tools and processes in addition to delivering features.
Our mission is to maximize solar energy usage with a frictionless financing process. We have over 1000 installers signed up and have financed 45,000+ installations.
The ideal candidate can not only write code, but has a proven track record of working with product to turn ideas into designs and work with the team to implement and deploy them as well as provide feedback on designs and implementations of others.
We have an office in San Francisco located on California @ Sansome, close to Montgomery BART, most developers have always been remote, but SF Bay Area based developers have been working remotely since mid-March.
You would join a team of 12 developers spread across 4 timezones (all permanently remote now) that is split in to 4 scrum teams. Our development process is very collaborative with our product team along with the other developers, so communication skills are important. Successful developers are eager to learn the business domain and have a hand in the design and implementation of features, not just programming to a specification.
The interview process consists of four 1 hour interviews (all through video) with members of our technology and product teams. One interview will have some small technical problems, but it is open note with your REPL running.
Unfortunately we are limited to candidates that are authorized to work in the U.S.
Apply: https://workforcenow.adp.com/mascsr/default/mdf/recruitment/... or Direct message me if you have questions.
REPL based development gives you instant feedback. lets you write a function in your editor and then run it, change it, run it again. If your idea of REPL is python or ruby, then you are not getting the entire picture. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5671214/is-lisp-the-only...
Immutable by default. This helps with debugging and solves thread safety. Feel free to pass around references without worry.
Java interop - you can use all the jars
"isomorphic" - write clojurescript for the browser, Clojure for the server
I am the VP of Software Development at Dividend Finance. We need Clojure/Clojurescript developers to help us build a suite of applications including a web app for solar installers, back office web app to manage originations and installation process, an API for solar installers to use to finance their projects. We are using Clojurescript (Re-frame based) for the front end, and Clojure on server side. Our mission is to maximize solar energy usage with a frictionless financing process. We have over 1000 installers signed up and have financed 30,000+ installations. I encourage you to apply if you are motivated to learn Clojure but have never worked full time with it.

You can extend it, convert it to JSON if necessary, and it is easy to read.
Any project of this size is too big and is better off being broken up.
You need tests no matter what kind of typing you are using.
The best thing about Clojure is that it is immutable by default. Start writing pure functions that transform you data step by step until you send it on its way with a side effect. I don’t miss types much at all - immutable maps lists, sets and pure functions get the job done and it is fun to program.
Static typing fans hardly ever acknowledge how difficult the types make it to read the code. Too much focus on that one time when someone made a typo and there was no unit test.
This has been argued infintum, nobody is changing their mind. WTF am I doing here?

In addition, we are building a web application using Clojurescript (Re-frame based) for solar installers. Our mission is to maximize solar energy usage with a frictionless financing process. From my perspective that is only about 3% of what I expect from a software engineer. Writing readable, easy to maintain code that is well tested, collaborating with product and other developers for how a feature should work, influencing technical designs, giving good feedback are things I value much higher than how quickly someone can write a snippet of code that works.
We don’t ask GM, Ford, or Toyota to solve car parking, or even
pedestrian deaths, traffic, and other car issues. So why are we asking
LimeBike, Bird, or Spin to figure out bike/scooter storage?
Lime Bird and Spin own the scooters that are blocking the sidewalk. Not so for Toyota. Zipcars arranges parking for their cars when they are not being rented. If you let the product team dictate every story, you are doing it wrong. Grow a spine and negotiate some tech stories into the sprint. After you establish credibility, it will get better.
If something needs refactoring and a 2point story comes along with that code, make it a 5 point story and clean up the code.
In a business, cash is oxygen and it must make smart choices about what gets worked on. And software developers are expensive. Just like democracy is the worst form of government except for all the rest, agile is the worst process ...
Don’t get caught up in the rigamarole of agile consultants. Every activity is meant to help communication between product and developers. If some activity does not help then convince people with data to stop doing it.
Stories are a blueprint for WHAT is built.
Points are GUESSES at the effort to complete something, which may better inform someone about the order in which stories are played.
Groooming is about meeting those devils hiding in the details.
If you lack the conviction to be an active participant in the process, then do not be surprised at what unfortunate kafkaesque universe you find yourself in.
Even the most mundane stories can have a lot of variability. “I need to mail a lettter” ok, 1 point. Um, there are no stamps. Get in the car to buy some. Car has low gas. Go to the gas station. Get to post office and realize you have no cash ... software development is no different.
At Dividend we are providing financing for residential solar installations and soon Home Energy loans (windows, furnace, etc.)
Our stack includes a Clojure API that allows solar installers to push their projects through the pipeline from prospect status all the way to in service. We also have a Clojurescript web app that is based on re-frame. We deploy on heroku and use RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, SendGrid, and other services. You will work with a small development team less than 10 people that include 2 remote. We collaborate with our product team using agile and try to stick to the manifesto. We are in the FiDi in SF, also have offices in San Diego, and Austin.
If you do not know Clojure, but are motivated to get fluent in a short time, consider applying.

I can read opinions about issues I have thought about and cared about and get a new perspective.
I can get annoyed because someone wrote something wonderful and then a bunch of people nit pick it to death.
Agency is where OTA acts as an agent between customer and lodging supplier. The OTA takes a fee and/or percent cut of the booking. Usually the customer pays the hotel directly upon checkin, and the hotel in turn pays the OTA.
Booking.com uses the Agency model and they dominate Europe. Expedia is strong in North America and struggles to get a foothold in other regions.
Expedia now uses the agency model and merchant model. Europeans understandably do not prefer to pay for the hotel stay at the time of booking.
There are more nuances, but that is basically how it works.
Maybe I have just seen too many movies about Stasi (East German Secret Police), Big Brother, Brave New world, etc., and that ruins it for me.
