sarim··on The state of switching to Windows from Mac in 2019
I use Mac for work (MacBook Pro 2017) and windows for personal projects (HP Envy 2018) and posts like these makes me wonder: are we both using the same Windows? Because the windows that I am exposed to finds the most inconvenient time to install updates, slows down for no apparent reason and, as of late, turns on two keyboard cursors at the same time causing me to type in two different locations of a document at once. Why Windows?! WHY?!?!?
sarim··on Google Cloud Is Down
Funny how as soon as I realized that Gmail and Google Sheet aren’t working properly I rushed to HN to figure out what’s going on. I love this community!
sarim··on Kickstarter’s staff is unionizing
Who else read unionizing as un-ionizing?
sarim··on Ask HN: Is Google recording our conversations to serve us with relevant ads?
Google doesn’t mention the source of data. You can setup display campaigns to optimize for more conversions, click through rates etc. It’ll serve the ad based on either audience or goals
sarim··on Ask HN: Is Google recording our conversations to serve us with relevant ads?
Well maybe continuous subconscious exposure to an ad is causing me to discuss a product with my friends and I am acknowledging the presence of the ad only after having talked about it.
sarim··on Ask HN: Is Google recording our conversations to serve us with relevant ads?
I completely understand your point. Maybe I am noticing those ads only after I have consciously made the decision of buying the product. Or maybe the ads of that product are sub consciously nudging me to buy those products. Most of the display ads are meant to do just that
sarim··on Ask HN: Is Google recording our conversations to serve us with relevant ads?
Thought police!!!!
sarim··on Ask HN: Is Google recording our conversations to serve us with relevant ads?
The only problem with the parameters you listed is that you get served with the most random ads at the most optimum moments. I once saw an ad for Swiffer mop moments after mentioning casually to my friend that I am thinking of buying one.
sarim··on Ask HN: YouTube down?
I have never seen Youtube not work. Ever. This is a special moment. Glad you are all here to share it with me :)

sarim··on Show HN: Caspy – AI Assistant for Emails
I completely understand your concerns. Your emails aren't sent anywhere; they are processed on our server. We have our own ML model so we don't share any of your data with a third party. Moreover, we don't store the content of your email. We just give emails scores based on various attributes and those scores are used to make all the predictions.
sarim··on Show HN: Caspy – AI Assistant for Emails
The goal of Caspy is to not just allow users to manage their Inboxes from anywhere in their browsers but to also help them build stronger relationships with Email contacts that they actually care about. It does a bunch of things (copy/pasting for the second time :P): 1. Which Emails are important and need a reply. 2. Which sent Emails require follow ups and what is the best time for a follow up. 3. Which contacts are important to you and which ones are drifting away and need to be reconnected with.
sarim··on Show HN: Caspy – AI Assistant for Emails
@stevesearer Both of those points are there so that we could train our ML Model. But I fully understand people's concerns.
sarim··on Show HN: Caspy – AI Assistant for Emails
Mining and selling your Inbox data isn't our business strategy. We have a subscription-based pricing model and we'll turn that on soon (2 months).

sarim··on Show HN: Caspy – AI Assistant for Emails
The AI makes the following desicions: 1. Which Emails are important and need a reply. 2. Which sent Emails require follow ups and what is the best time for a follow up. 3. Which contacts are important to you and which ones are drifting away and need to be reconnected with.

Snoozing and muting emails are added functionalities. The AI makes the following desicions: 1. Which Emails are important and need a reply. 2. Which sent Emails require follow ups and what is the best time for a follow up. 3. Which contacts are important to you and which ones are drifting away and need to be reconnected with.

Don't worry axyjo, its free for early users but we'll turn on pricing soon.
sarim··on Ask HN: $1k+ side projecters, what was the best thing you did to market it?
Engineering as Marketing is proving out to be the most effective channel.

We are a small (3 person small) A.I. startup so paid advertisement isn't the most viable option. What worked for us was creating small trivia apps(thedonaldtest.com & whatthefis.ml) to drive sign ups for our Beta release. The apps got featured on PH, generating 200+ conversions on our main website along with some press coverage (Side note: last week an Israeli newspaper wrote about us causing a spike in web traffic)

Here is my experience with different marketing channels:

1. Facebook Ads: Not much success on a small budget. Yesterday I ended an ad campaign for our early release prematurely because the CPC reached $2.2. I have to do more experiments with the ad creative and target audience before I can say for sure whether ads are effective or not.

2. Content Creation. Bleh. Good for SEO, yes, but with so much crap out there its really hard to make your voice heard. I did some experimentation with making the content more interactive (caspy.com/will-apps-like-prisma-replace-human-artists/) but still didnt get much love.

3. Contacting Journalist: After reaching out to 70+ journalist over email and twitter and not getting a single positive response, I am a bit cynical towards that strategy.

BTW, I strongly believe that optimization works. All you need to do is test different approaches and see what sticks.

sarim··on Show HN: ML toy that tells you if you sound like Trump or Hillary on Twitter
I think it could. Our ML doesn't. Here's what a quick google search brought up...http://cs229.stanford.edu/proj2015/044_report.pdf
sarim··on Will Apps Like Prisma Replace Human Artists?
Or at the least the demand for Human art. People might say that the genre for abstract art will still exist. I think googles deep dream has that area covered. What are your thoughts?
