scompt··on Ask HN: Who Is Hiring? (November 2012)
Simfy | Cologne, Germany | iOS Developer

We are a team of music- and technology enthusiasts, which combines passion, hard-work and fun to change the way people will listen to music in the future. Starting from the idea that music should be available every where and at any time, independently form where you are and what you do, we keep working every day to make listening to music easier and better.

We're looking for an experienced iOS Developer (m/f) who shares the vision and helps to build the best iOS streaming apps out there in the market. You have an insatiable thirst for learning new things and enjoy sharing your knowledge. You are organized, clear-headed, creative and proud of the high-standard to which you work.

scompt··on Fuck the Android Build Process
Resource overlays might have solved the problem a bit More gracefully. They allow you to specify additional resource directories that take precedence over the default one. I don't have a link at the moment, but google should be able to tell you something. You'd still have to hack around with the build file a bit, but if you're a java/android programmer you should know about ant anyway.

As long as you're learning about java build tools, take a look at the android maven plugin. It can be useful once you outgrow the confines of the default android build process.

scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
I've made no effort to ensure that the frameworks available on the site are iOS-specific. The main point is that they're available for iOS.
scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
Thanks for the first 3 suggestions.

Frameworks, on the site at least, means any pile of code that can be used on iOS. It's definitely a misnomer, but it fits well enough with what people search for. I'm sure you had the same issue when deciding on a name for cocoacontrols.com.

It's hard to say what differentiates the sites. They definitely serve the same niche.

scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
Yup, I agree. This is on my todo list.
scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
Yep, that's basically what I'm saying.
scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
Good catch. The framework details were taken, for the most part, directly from the homepage. I'll fix it when I get the chance.
scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
I've never tried it on the iPad. I'll see what I can do!
scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
That's a feature that I have yet to implement, but it's on my todo list. Follow @iosframeworks for updates to the site.
scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
Good idea. joakin mentioned this too. It's on my todo list.
scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
Great idea. It'll go on my TODO list.
scompt··on A curated catalog of iOS frameworks
Interactivity (most popular, etc) is definitely on my TODO list for the site. I'll probably end up requiring login with OpenID for commenting and rating.

I agree that the details are pretty slim on frameworks. As part of the interactivity feature, I plan to add a form for suggesting changes.

Thanks for the feedback!

scompt··on Introducing Play 2.0
Where did you find the reference to no more exception work flow? That seemed to be everywhere in the framework.
scompt··on Introducing Play 2.0
There's a continuous integration server called calimoucho (https://github.com/guillaumebort/calimoucho) written by the author of the Play framework. I don't have any experience with it though.
scompt··on Show HN: iosframeworks.com - A curated catalog of iOS frameworks and classes
Thanks for the feedback. I was going to go with "iosframeworks.com - Just another page of links", but I didn't like the ring of it.

Google tells me that curate means "Select, organize, and look after the items in (a collection or exhibition)", which seems like an accurate enough description for me. I'm ok with it coming across as tacky to some.

Thanks for the feedback!

I agree the descriptions need to be better when browsing. I plan to increase the length and have them truncate at a word boundary.

Good idea to include images when looking at the detail page. I'll add it to my todo list.

scompt··on Using MySql as a bootleg message queue
Speaking from experience using mysql as a message queue.

Lock contention will be a bitch past a certain number of processes/threads accessing the DB. Also, hopefully your application doesn't crash during the long-running work. If so, your messages are gone forever.

As for a simpler idea, message queues aren't that difficult. Why not just install a proper one to start off with.

scompt··on [dead]
This is 6 months old. I'm sure it was posted on HN at the time also.
scompt··on Tell HN: You can spam every user of the frid.ge(YC S10)
Did it occur to you there might be a better venue to report this?
scompt··on Ask HN: How did you find your company & job?
Through a local python user group. I introduced myself at the beginning and said I was looking for a job. Over pizza and a beer afterwards, somebody mentioned an open position. I applied, interviewed, and that's where I am now.
