scotthtaylor··on My billion pound company has no HR department
Bit of a silly video, that didn't really tell me anything.
scotthtaylor··on Six-page narratives tackling our biggest challenges
Thanks so much for the comment! You can check out the live progress on the memos here: http://publish.obsidian.md/stim
scotthtaylor··on Are we losing our ability to remember?
Ordered!
scotthtaylor··on Are we losing our ability to remember?
Great explanation, thanks for taking the time to write it!
scotthtaylor··on Are we losing our ability to remember?
Yeah, I agree with you (nicely put btw) — what I find disconcerting is the fact that it's happening so quick, i.e. I notice myself evolving and changing over weeks/months and becoming increasingly reliant upon the external data stores. Pretty crazy we can adapt that quick!
scotthtaylor··on Are we losing our ability to remember?
Awesome write-up!
scotthtaylor··on Are we losing our ability to remember?
Agree 100% — nicely written up!
scotthtaylor··on Are we losing our ability to remember?
Exactly, I agree. Think about 100 years from now — our bodies won't have evolved quick enough (much like our fight or flight mechanism dealing with the stresses of today) to be able to cope.
scotthtaylor··on Are we losing our ability to remember?
Actually a good point!
scotthtaylor··on Are we losing our ability to remember?
Haha, not at all an advert. Simply saying that I use networked thinking apps (Obsidian, Roam Research, etc.) to help take the load off my working memory.
scotthtaylor··on SEC Issues Record $114M Whistleblower Award
Goldman Sachs 1MDB? Or what else could have reached this level of payout (Whistleblower awards can range from 10 percent to 30 percent of the money collected when the monetary sanctions exceed $1 million.)
scotthtaylor··on The Almanack of Naval Ravikant
Haha, agree!
scotthtaylor··on Roam Research reaches $1m ARR in 6 weeks
Yeah, I have to agree. I made the jump to Obsidian — the app is great!
scotthtaylor··on Medium is not the home for your ideas
Bundle, unbundle, rinse, repeat.

Tech's virtuous cycle will forever run...

scotthtaylor··on Ask HN: How do you read long PDFs?
Like others, I import mine to Goodnotes on my iPad then use Apple Pencil to annotate / mark-up etc. Can also export in whatever format (inc. PDF) if I want.
scotthtaylor··on Ask HN: What is your blog and why should I read it?
https://st.im -- I write about building AI products, self improvement and general curiosity.

I also have a '10 Minute Guide' book series -- the most recent one being '10 Minute Guide to Mental Fitness'.

scotthtaylor··on How Justin Kan fundraises
So you're introducers, taking a 5% fee?
scotthtaylor··on How I made 10% of my side project’s incomes with a bot written in 4 hours
"How I made 10% of my side project's incomes with a bot written in 4 hours"... "then decreased my products lifetime earning by 15% permanently".

Now that it's publicly known, why would anyone sign-up immediately? Surely this addition has now done more harm?

scotthtaylor··on How Not to Bomb Your Offer Negotiation
Such a silly article; not a great way to start a relationship with your new colleagues.

scotthtaylor··on RC fighter model UAV build in Jet engine 360+mph [video]
Amazing, would love to see this advance to have a camera capable of relaying a camera feed to an Oculus Rift.
scotthtaylor··on Paul Graham and Jessica Livingston Interview [video]
Terrible editing by Bloomberg.

scotthtaylor··on Google glass now in UK
I don't want to get punched, so won't be buying one. But eagerly await seeing my first glasshole in the flesh.
scotthtaylor··on Show HN: A collaborative newsletter for product managers
How many 'product manager' groups and newsletters do we need.
scotthtaylor··on Ask HN: How do you earn your money?
Building blocks.

You are going to learn processes, insights and experience failures when working for someone (and help with building their dream). This is learning on someone else's dollar. It's mutually beneficial and £30k is certainly not something to sniff at.

Very few people walk out of university, raise money and launch the next Facebook.

It's all about de-risking. Make yourself investable over the next few years. Branch out and learn other areas of the business (marketing/sales/etc).

Plan what you want to do and make sure you have calculated steps to reach them.

You'll also probably want to be tinkering with stuff on the side. These could potentially get you some money, but more realistically will provide you with invaluable learning.
