seejamescode··on Show HN: Grid Wiz, CSS Grid framework generator with custom browser support
Hey everyone, I made CSS Gridish to help teams transition to CSS Grid while I was at IBM. I published this project right after I left to tackle the biggest faults. You can either create your CSS Grid framework in the web app, in your Node environment, or even on the client-side.

Here are more details about the why and how: https://medium.com/free-code-camp/introducing-grid-wiz-make-...

Truth. It was really just put into place for IE11. Hopefully usage rates will continue to shrink and PMs will let go of the requirement.

The community has been saying to use flexbox when you are only working with one axis, but I am not too sure that is true. Grid has adapted so many of flexbox’s rules, browser support seems to be the only differentiator.

I had been working on all of this build process for our own grid design. Then in the last month I realized I could move all design decisions to a config file to make it compatible for other people’s design systems.

You’re right, flexbox is not that old. It was just a requirement for a lot of our experiences that still support IE11.

Thanks for the love and critique. Issues are love too: https://github.com/ibm/type/issues/new

Some things to keep in mind:

— v1 will not be released until early next year. We published publicly so it is easy for teams to test and give feedback.

— The documentation site was a quickfix and will merge into a silky smooth GatsbyJS site later. Give that project some love at https://github.com/gatsbyjs/gatsby

— We are constantly making breaking changes until v1 based on font-loading performance, design specs, and more
