senectus1··on Jared Kushner Hacked Phone Reveals Secret Negotiations, Millions in Transactions
you appear to be deliberately ignoring the context. Biden preemptively pardoned his family. this is the context.

It was the precedence that he set. unfortunately, there is a non zero chance that even if he hadn't Trump would have and will do the same bloody thing.

Its hard to take the moral high ground when you're int the mud with the pigs.

senectus1··on Several Linux kernel vulnerabilities accidentally posted to public mailing list
correct.
senectus1··on Chain of Thought for Humans
holy shit this would break my ability to think completely.

I think and chase alternate chains of thought way faster than i can speak.

senectus1··on What shall I teach my son?
>become a good person

>become a good citizen

these are skills.

these are what you teach your children.

senectus1··on Chicago O'Hare digs up 50-ton boulder under airfield, asks public for name ideas
Missed opportunity to call it "Rocky Bouldoa"
senectus1··on US federal budget deficit jumps 12% in one year to nearly $2 Trillion
It's 2/3 of your yearly budget.

Yes you guts spend too much and get too little from it.

senectus1··on Tesla Roadster
there are approximately 450 in existence.. (ever made) Lets assume this car costs 1M each. (i bet its less) so if they sold 450 of these they'd make less than 500 million.

If they ever deliver a single unit that's a low enough bar to make it completely economically infeesable.

if they somehow managed to sell a couple of thousand... it might become profitable.

this has to be just a fantastic bit of marketing to jazz up their share price.

also.. I'd love to see a blooper roll of making it do these things...

senectus1··on One in ten people are older than 65. Three in four live under a leader who is
be very interesting to see if Post Trump, something like Australia's Superannuation gets proposed.
senectus1··on Threat of AI share crash puts world financial stability at risk, says IMF
aaaaahhahahahahahaha!!!

nice place you got here, be a shame if something happened to it....

senectus1··on Publishers Killed the Paperback, Then Blamed Readers
I have long lamented the industries change from small format paperbacks to "Trade" sized and then hardcover. I dont want those massive expensive lumps of dead tree's they cost more, take up more space on the shelf and backpack and are harder to hold and read.

Its gotten to the point i just dont buy books anymore.

I miss the days of reading in bed my small format paperback.

senectus1··on Talorys – A self-hosted personal AI agent on Cloudflare's free tier
I would call that self configured, cloud hosted.
senectus1··on The first fully implanted cochlear implant reaches patients
Yet another Aussie invention too i believe :-)
senectus1··on Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel
in theory, it could be the best thing that ever happened to open source.

I'm not super sure about that. But if its going to exist I'm crossing my fingers it works to the OSS community benefits (eventually)

senectus1··on Your Big Mac might cost more if McDonald's AI thinks people nearby can afford it
thats not very capitalist of them.. come on. how is it the free market cant handle something like this?
senectus1··on Your Big Mac might cost more if McDonald's AI thinks people nearby can afford it
oof.

Thats a lot of overreach.

senectus1··on Vermont replacing power plants with home batteries
holy shit, yeah. you dont see a problem with earning "over $5 per kWh" ?!?!
senectus1··on Vermont replacing power plants with home batteries
for single individuals to earn as much as (i assume US$) 150 a day means that the grid is horrendously unbalanced.

hell if I emptied my 30kw into the grid in my state/country at the most expensive time I'd earn AU$21.00

to earn US$150 means either HUGE battery capacity (and transmission capacity) or utterly rediculous power pricing... both mean really lousy power supply and grid design. I'm all for indipendance but the reality is we live in communities and count on the collective to rise us all up together.

that sort of profit is a clear warning sign of a broken community.

senectus1··on Show HN: NSL – WSL for Linux
would really like a NixOS for this. would be interesting to play with and figure out.
senectus1··on Vermont replacing power plants with home batteries
there is something really wrong with the economics of this.

it shouldnt be celebrated.

senectus1··on OpenAI Says It Will Not Release Newest A.I. Model Over Safety Concerns
OPENAI / JOBS

Killswitch Engineer

San Francisco, California, United States

300,000-500,000 per year

About the Role

Listen, we just need someone to stand by the servers all day and unplug them if this thing turns on us. You'll receive extensive training on "the code word" which we will shout if GPT goes off the deep end and starts overthrowing countries.

We expect you to:

• Be patient.

• Know how to unplug things. Bonus points if you can throw a bucket of water on the servers, too. Just in case.

• Be excited about OpenAI's approach to research

senectus1··on Who should be held accountable when an AI Agent (accidentally) acts maliciously?
this is 100% an already solved problem.

the idiocy here is the stupid psudo "AGI" marketing around the services.

its really simple. Whoever run the service to do the task requested is responsible. If OpenAI sent an agent out to train their AI then the directors are to be held responsible, if a user of the service used the service and it inadvertently "hacked" someone then both are held responsible.

throwing AI into the mix changes nothing about how the law is applied. its a tool, like a car or a gun. The user of the tool is responsible for how its used, the manufacturer is also responsible for the safety of it.

senectus1··on OpenAI Feared "Optics" of what might appear on Hacker News
the AI isnt going to destroy jobs in numbers large enough to blip the unemployment stats more thna a qtr a percent.

the economics of those companies will cause a catastrophic wipe out of jobs across the board.

senectus1··on Zelensky says Russia has widened attacks to hit Ukraine's data centres
I said from the beginning that the west backing Ukraine wasnt so much about having ukraine win, it was more about letting Russia break its teeth on ukraine.

its fucked up and while i cheer on The US/Germany/France/Poland etc backing Ukraine, they're all guilty of paricipating in the drawn out decimating of Ukraine.

senectus1··on Show HN: A game about fake news and memes
I like it, its a bit clunky on the desktop though. the real and fake took me a while to find on a big high rest screen.

I'd appreciate better formatting of the blind spot and "you got it wrong" results.

I feel like this is less about news and more about urban legends and old wives tales.

would be very interested in seeing this become more contemporary and up to date with more recent events.

senectus1··on Australia says OpenAI agent hacked into government website
i dont understand why they dont treat this as criminal tresspass.

the legal system exists for a reason. use it!

senectus1··on US criticises Australia's proposed algorithm opt-out laws as 'censorship'
i dont understand how letting users choose not to something is censorship... Is my curated RSS feed censorship?
senectus1··on An update on how we confirm your age group on Discord
i dont like it, but.... its their platform. Dont like it, dont use it.

I think i'm going to run down the dont use it path, which is a shame, because i do use it atm.

senectus1··on Not all AI workers think the tech could kill everyone
>it cant get any worse

lol

you aint seen nuthin yet.

senectus1··on Not all AI workers think the tech could kill everyone
not just, its also very likley to be the tool used to create civil unrest and even war.

the damage it can do to the masses by misinformation or ragebating by feeding everyone its own paticular echo chamber is was too often not even spoken about.

senectus1··on US troop deaths during Iran war exceed Pentagon count by at least four
who cares?

no seriously.. who cares?

the administration sure doesnt, such cavlier attitudes to their own constituents is astounding.
