shevis··on Sleep framework: A new way for LLMs to retain knowledge in continual learning
> Parameter expansion then provides the capacity needed to write these selected memories without overwriting previously consolidated knowledge.

This seems like the limiting factor here, depending on efficiency

shevis··on Cursor removed cost information from the usage page and CSV export
How is that different from claude’s “auto” permission mode?
shevis··on Claude Sonnet 5
The cost is skill atrophy. When was the last time you wrote something entirely from scratch by hand without AI assistance? It’s a skill entirely separate from prompting and reviewing. And it atrophies when you stop using it.
shevis··on Hyundai buys Boston Dynamics, Atlas humanoid to be used at vehicle plant by 2028
I’m pretty surprised to see no mention of Agility in the conversation about other humanoid companies
shevis··on The AirPods Effect
> Heavy headphone use makes people feel lonelier, the survey found.

Correlation for sure, I’m less sure about causation though. It seems equally likely to me that other factors are driving increased social anxiety/isolation which in turn drives people to wear headphones to avoid social interactions.

shevis··on What job interviews taught me about Kubernetes
> The CTOs I talked to aren't making a dumb choice. They're solving real problems.

Unrelated to the content of the article, this sentence structure is a dead giveaway of LLM writing.

shevis··on A Bipartisan Amendment Would End Police License Plate Tracking Nationwide
> The districts of both representatives (Chicago for Garcia, and Harrisburg for Perry) flatly oppose it, as do their state governments.

You’ll have to cite your sources there, friend. As a constituent of one of those districts myself, I certainly do not oppose it! All my homies hate ALPRs.

shevis··on Loopmaster – Livecoding Music IDE
Shoutout to Sonic Pi (https://sonic-pi.net/) for still being the best at this.
shevis··on If AI writes your code, why use Python?
Because you still have to read the code AI writes. I would argue it’s even more important than ever for code to be human readable.
shevis··on In 2025, Meta paid an effective federal tax rate of 3.5%
Income != profit. Income is revenue. It sure would be nice if businesses were taxed on income, given that’s how people are taxed and all. Aren’t corporations supposedly people now thanks to citizens united?

shevis··on Show HN: Multiplayer Game of Life
Full blog post can found here: https://blog.unsupervision.com/game-of-life-or-death/
shevis··on The truth behind the 2026 J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference
Absolute cinema
shevis··on Show HN: Nano PDF – A CLI Tool to Edit PDFs with Gemini's Nano Banana
A side effect of replacing entire pages with images is that the file size will expand dramatically. Most PDFs only contain a couple of images
shevis··on Making Conway's Game of Life Playable
I always thought it was a bit silly to refer to it as a “zero player game“.
shevis··on The future of 32-bit support in the kernel
I’m surprised no one is talking about the 2038 problem.
shevis··on Steam, Itch.io are pulling ‘porn’ games. Critics say it's a slippery slope
The problem is that they are opting to ban all games labeled “NSFW”, not just rape/incest games.
shevis··on Brave blocks Microsoft Recall by default
Gaming. Linux gaming has come a long way (especially thanks to the steam deck) but the vast majority of games are still only released on Windows.
shevis··on All the Ghosts You Will Be – Vsauce [video]
We are so back.
shevis··on A non-anthropomorphized view of LLMs
> requires a model of how consciousness works.

Not necessarily an entire model, just a single defining characteristic that can serve as a falsifying example.

> any information they can communicate to me, exists entirely in (R^n)^c

Also no. This is just a result of the digital medium we are currently communicating over. Merely standing in the same room as them would communicate information outside (R^n)^c.

shevis··on Security and Human Rights in the Age of BCIs
This could become a big issue if neuralink's technology is to be taken seriously.
shevis··on Teen on Musk's DOGE team graduated from 'The Com'
Isn’t this basically the point they were making?

> We’re wasting our youth on the fever dreams of old men.

shevis··on New speculative attacks on Apple CPUs
One of the most significant use cases that gets impacted is game dev.

Web games benefit significantly from SAB (see the Godot engine for example) and mobile games make up a pretty sizable chunk of app store usage, particularly in app purchases.

shevis··on I created an open-source Hardware Hacking Wiki – with tutorials for beginners
> If the source is open to read, for me it's open source.

That’s called “source available”. Open source colloquially implies open license.

shevis··on Carlsen quits World Rapid and Blitz championship after dress code disagreement
The dress code is pretty outdated and doesn’t add anything of substance. Let the players be comfortable, we just want to see good chess!
shevis··on The Onion buys Infowars
My friend, you have eaten the onion.
shevis··on FCC wants all phones unlocked in sixty days, AT&T and T-Mobile aren't so keen
In what world does disallowing blatantly anticompetitive behavior constitute a significant economic change?
shevis··on FCC wants all phones unlocked in sixty days, AT&T and T-Mobile aren't so keen
Tell me you didn’t read the article without telling me you didn’t read the article
shevis··on Gaussian Splatting SLAM
I actually stumbled across this paper while researching exactly that question! A reliable method for transforming gaussians into geometry seems like it could dramatically change the gamedev asset pipeline.
shevis··on Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera Data Set for Academic Use
No, they really aren’t and I’m not sure why I keep seeing this take. ML weights are binary and it’s painfully obvious.

They are the end result of a compilation process in which the training data and model code are compiled into the resulting weights. If you can’t even theoretically recreate the weights on your own hardware it isn’t open source.
