shomp··on Shai-Hulud and the risks of external dependencies
Or, npm can add trust ratings to packages and versions. And Github the parent company can lend a tiny fraction of resources and programmer power to developing static code analysis tools for npm packages.

This problem is completely solvable in two different ways:

1) everyone uses private feeds that use vetted versions only, and

2) Github/npm take responsibility for every package published to npm as the distributor.

Also the name Shai-hulud was chosen by the people who made the malware, you shouldn't dignify them by using the name they chose.

shomp··on Valve open-source the Steam Machine e-ink screen so you can make your own
To me it reads like a demand: "Valve, open source the Steam Machine e-ink screen"

If we are talking past tense, "Valve have open-sourced.."

And if we are talking American "English," then "Valve has open-sourced..."

shomp··on The KIDS Act would require age checks to get online
If Facebook, in light of the 2021 "Facebook Papers," believed the legislation inevitable, what kind of legislation would maximize its advantage?

Noteworthily, the legislation moves age verification from individual apps to app-store operators [Apple, Google] which reduces Facebooks legal exposure for inaccurate/incorrect age verifications.

shomp··on Why has the web become so complex?
Electric Clojure is a living example of hypermedia - instantaneous UI updates via differential. Client and server code co-exist in the same file, it really is a thing of beauty.

The ISA could be really cool, having lots of "combo" commands that might reduce program length dramatically. Think ADD and MULT and SHIFT all in one command, to give a simple analogy.

On the interaction, one system uses a clock signal / metronome and the other is all cascades. The clock signal is like a metronome calibrated to the duration of the longest cascade = "critical path." It seems clear that these can interact smoothly, as one simply has the training wheels of the clock, while the other is about progression-via-propagation.

Research question: does it make sense to make a new family of logic gates using neurons? My intuition says there is a rich texture/fabric to uncover here. The best analogy on hand right now is legos: rather than 2-knotch legos [standard gates like NAND, XOR] what about some sort of new, irreducible gates that are bigger "legos"? Been a while since I played with logic gates but my intuition says there is something lurking below the surface. A new class of irreducible gates, maybe cross-connections? Like compacted multilayer gates? Think SHA-512, how certain bits feed into different layers of the "puzzle". Optimistic this thought-amalgam serves you in your continued research :)

shomp··on How to convert between wealth and income tax
Oh he understands the reasoning. He is one of the people who would be subject to the tax :) The wealthy writing essays on how to not infringe upon their wealth is nothing new, although it did go out of favor in the Carnegie-Rockefeller era when they competed to see who could do more public-good with their immense fortunes before their shoving off the mortal coil. Looks like the ultrawealthy currying sentiment to preserve ultrawealthy wealth at any expense is back in vogue.

This is really cool! You did a great job with this. I'm glad it's something you're actively using, that's the hallmark of a good product -- users :D

A teeny tiny nit-pick, the bottleneck diagram ... frustrates me. I think the intent is you want to depict the fact that different [classes of] users experience friction with various obstacles ? I don't know, I personally found that it took away from your otherwise very cool article. A live demo would add to the intrigue and fun aspect of your write-up, although I don't know if you are interesting in making a "massively multiplayer online dotolist" ;D
