The alternative we're getting isn't that gig-worker enjoying UBI and early retirement, they're getting deported or ground into dust.

> “I was under the impression that I had more rights than the robot did,” Marvin said, laughing.

Its not the robot you have less rights than, but the corporation. Cops' job is to do their bidding.

I literally cannot imagine touching my macbook's screen on purpose. Dual screen phone. Touchscreen macbook. Fairy princess UI. Apple used to lead the way in design language and functionality. They're absolutely rizzless nowadays.

sicktriple··on Meta Ignores Brazilian Court Order to End Bolsonaro Favoritism
> It seems impossible to assess whether one of the two is in fact not guilty of the crimes they were charged for.

It's actually not, a cursory understanding of Brazilian politics is all that's needed to understand this in context. Lula was essentially "acquitted" for his crimes, as it was proved after he served a few years in prison that the charges were brought under false pretenses by partisan operators. (https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2022/04/brazil-crimi...)

It was also quite convenient for liberals and the right wing at the time to jail Lula, as he was at the apex of his popularity and was making life hard for the Brazilian bourgeoisie. Bolsonarism can essentially be read as a revolt of the Brazilian elite against Lula's economic policies which stepped on the toes of a few powerful sectors of the Brazilian capitalist class.

Lula has a long history of successfully managing capitalism as a socialist. Brazilian politics is extremely corrupt and pay-to-play, and the Bolsonaros are essentially a crime family in their own right. Flavio, the son running for president, has been convicted of embezzlement when he was a state congressman and is literally under investigation right now for money laundering and bank fraud.

sicktriple··on macOS 15.8.2 Breaks OpenGL
What's wrong with the ecosystem? Hardware support is robust. Development is done out in the open and miles more professional than the slop Apple or Microsoft are putting out. Desktop environments, distro defaults and documentation are abundant and varied enough to support most user's needs. Besides hostile proprietary closed source software like Adobe or MS Office (of which alternatives are also abundant), what else could you need?

I get it, but everything is ideological -- whether you want to hear about it or not.

In a world where software exerts considerable control and influence over peoples' lives, your ability to insulate yourself from that influence is a priveledge. Software IS ideological. Free software was created so people can have the freedom to share and collaborate on their own terms. There is an extent to which it gets extreme, but without the GPL we would live in an even more monopolistic "free" market hell world than we already do. That's a moral obligation that spawned a practical one. If no one ever took a moral stance because you find it annoying, the world would be an objectively worse place.

sicktriple··on Libreboot 26.10 "Ominous Olive" released with UEFI, Chromebook support
You may not, but that entirely comes down to who you're willing to trust. Its certainly not unreasonable for an individual to handle information deemed too sensitive to be allowed to be exfiltrated to a third party. Your use case is not the same as the entire world's.
sicktriple··on Siri is so bad at everything
Almost as if the non-deterministic matrix weight program doesn't take explicit instructions and produce the same answer each time. If only we had some sort of language we could use to "program" something to work that way.
sicktriple··on Libreboot 26.10 "Ominous Olive" released with UEFI, Chromebook support
Something about having a bot controlled by a third party comb your entire codebase and make changes on your behalf strikes me as not the most privacy-friendly approach to software. I know your question wasn't being asked in good faith, but I've answered it honestly.

sicktriple··on Show HN: Let your AI agents paint big arrows, boxes and text on your screen
> Agents are the first thing that can lead you directly from "I know what I want my computer to do." to "Actually doing it."

Actually they’re the second thing. The first thing was studying computer science.

sicktriple··on Show HN: Let your AI agents paint big arrows, boxes and text on your screen
I agree, actually. And I’m more than happy to criticize anyone and everyone involved as the state of software is in my opinion a failure of the human race. So I’ll yell at whomever I want, thanks. They’ll be ok.
sicktriple··on Show HN: Let your AI agents paint big arrows, boxes and text on your screen
Be on GNOME

Press super and type “dark mode”

What happens?

I’m not sure I understand the desire to control computers with conversational language. Computers are a collection of on off switches. I personally would much prefer being able to control exactly which on off switches to switch, instead of just telling the black box to do something and for it to make no mistakes. It just doesn’t strike me as a good idea to give the incomprehensible matrix weight the ability to make decisions about what to do on my machine. There’s just far too much ambiguity for my comfort here.

sicktriple··on Show HN: Let your AI agents paint big arrows, boxes and text on your screen
There is a huge difference between mathematical determinism and "it looks like that thing I said." Even the laziest, most superficial analysis must conclude these two things are not the same just because they have vaguely the same shaped shadow.
sicktriple··on Show HN: Let your AI agents paint big arrows, boxes and text on your screen
I'm sorry but I am just so tired of hearing this lazy logic. A C compiler is largely a 1:1, deterministic pattern matcher. I type X, I can be reasonably sure compiler will do Y.

An agent is not at all like this. The freaks who made this disingenuous machine don't even know how or why it does half the stuff it does. We're all just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. Absolute nonsense take my man, I'm sorry.

sicktriple··on Show HN: Let your AI agents paint big arrows, boxes and text on your screen
I also am curious of this, I only fear that it's going to turn into a concerted effort by those who have power to remove already existing capabilities from individuals and replace it with centralized infrastructure. Swapping out everyone's desktop for a think client hooked up to an agent and renting it back for a monthly fee for example, would be a strict downgrade when we already had the capability to do pretty much anything we could think of on the internet. Sure maybe it makes someone's workflow a b it more efficient, but I quite like having my own agency. I don't intend to hand it away some dork who owns a billion GPUs can rent it back to me.
sicktriple··on Show HN: Let your AI agents paint big arrows, boxes and text on your screen
Man, just when it seemed like we had it all. Computers were cheap, efficient and powerful. Somehow we figured out a way to accomplish tasks we already had solved except now it's 1000x more expensive, requires the combined electricity of the entire world, is reliant on someone else's rented compute, and now I need a robot to tell me what button to press. What a time to be alive.
