Beautiful resiliance.
silly-silly··on I Stopped Using Emojis
By normal, do you mean verbal ?
silly-silly··on I Stopped Using Emojis
Nice.
silly-silly··on Word gap: When money’s tight, parents talk less to kids
I think you're reading his list as an 'and', read the list as an 'or'.
silly-silly··on Don’t submit to conformity
Vote for nobody.
silly-silly··on I Stopped Using Emojis
My old man opinion is that there is no point discussing with people who are using emoji because they are inadequately able to express themselves using words. I have found they are also likely to take offense and act irrationally when words are the forced medium.
silly-silly··on Don’t submit to conformity
I'd say pick 3-4 people who are sensible, and pretty much ignore the rest of the people on the planet.
silly-silly··on Senior Google exec opposes remote work, moves to New Zealand to work remotely
This is why your home country is likely rampant with covid, where as nz is not.
silly-silly··on I still use plain text for everything. (2016)
As far as I can see, there is no license attached to the output of Obsidian.

Open source is a license, not a standard.

silly-silly··on Help All data in WD mybook live gone and owner password unknown
Now imagine how car manufactures are going to be able to deal with this in a few years.

This shit is coming.

silly-silly··on Pulling GitHub into the Linux kernel process
> that's probably the main mirror people clone it from.

I very much doubt this is true.

silly-silly··on Apple really needs to do something about these calendar scams
I was targeted with this trash, it disappeared late 2019.
silly-silly··on Freenode commits suicide, is no longer a serious IRC network
IRC might be 'mostly' dead to you if that's your definition, but it is not 'remotely' dead to me and many others around the world.

I use it every day, and I use it for work, admittedly its not freenode but an internal server. I find IRC great for not having the focus of the general masses because of how disappointing the general masses really are.

silly-silly··on Infosec Core Competencies
> But CVSS is an industry-wide joke.

Tell me more how a factual explanation of a software's exploitation techniques is a joke. I think you're drinking the repetitive koolaid that is frequently passed around on boards like this.

silly-silly··on Why you should quit ranked session-based multiplayer video games
All the above aside, if you're not great at it, you're almost forced to play with a bunch of degenerate idiots.

If you want to play the game for the enjoyment of trolling these idiots, then sure.. keep playing.

silly-silly··on Australian Federal Police and FBI nab underworld figures using encrypted app
But he's not innocent, you missing the boat here jimmy ?
silly-silly··on The price of lithium-ion batteries has declined by 97% in the last three decades
The rest of the world doesn't live in high density built up areas. Many small crops farming trains in rural areas can not and will not be allowed to run power through the tracks in above ground situations.
silly-silly··on Google removes its head of diversity after 2007 blog post surfaces
I loved that version of office.
silly-silly··on The Development of Erlang (1997)
I read the same article then realised that the author didn't understand the full capabilities of OTP and maybe had a bit of survivorship bias from kubernetes hostage experience.
silly-silly··on A police dog who cried drugs at every traffic stop
If the penalties are a slap on the wrist, I'll be thinking of starting a life of crime, its gotta be easier than than hard work.
silly-silly··on A police dog who cried drugs at every traffic stop
You'd hope, but people gotta peep.
silly-silly··on Systemd: The Good Parts
You use a tool like cat, vim , emacs, or tail to see logs. You can't physically read the file off the disk, how is this different than using journalctl ?

# journalctl -u ssh

> Unless surface to capture rainfall is clean, it can be contaminated with animal droppings.

Your going to have a bad time when you find out what most organic fertilizer comes from.

silly-silly··on TikTok launching jobs service for Gen Z
I'm still confused how you will want to hire someone after seeing how they dance.
silly-silly··on TikTok launching jobs service for Gen Z
> Show me something that you learn in your career as X that isn't > taught in school" and have the TikToker's quote and reply to > the video.

> a few second of a video can tell much more than 2 pages of written CV.

These are -different- things though, one is an interview the other is a CV.

silly-silly··on Why People Feel Like Victims
You're confusing the problem here.

Sometimes coping with issues is just learning to ignore them, you must learn that even though you feel hurt there it is not worth putting energy into dealing with what people say and do.

People forget that 50% of the people on the planet are below average, its best to remember that when you're dealing with life. You can't expect these people to have reasoning and logic skills, emotional resilience or even base levels of compassion.

"Toughen up princess" can frequently be the best advice you can give someone.

silly-silly··on Elixir GenServer Explained
Erlang casts are always delivered, or the sender crashes before that point.
silly-silly··on Elixir GenServer Explained
I use this callback to capture the 'data' that caused the crash, so that it can be used to recover later or better understand why the crash happened.

If I have as significantly long transaction, I can restart the transaction from transaction_id + 1 forward and then handle the actual transaction out of band by hand if its something very odd.

I usually insert a logger in these code paths too, but the crash handler is usually after the logger, which makes it easier to reason what has happened if you are dealing with mutable state.

silly-silly··on Stranded sailor allowed to leave abandoned ship after four years
I'm slightly confused, if the owner can't afford to deal with the costs, they obviously dont have the financial ability to penalize the individual NOT to abandon ship.

That level of cognitive disconnect surely can't be held up as valid in any legal system that has greater cognitive ability to do 'connect the dots drawings'.
