silon42··on Milkman – The Better Alternative to Postman
Someone should enhance jmeter...
silon42··on What we know so far about Spain train crash
There is no system where you can get more than a share of what the economy produces currently.

Paid contributions should only ensure that you get a part of that, a bit more if you paid more, less if you paid less.

If workforce/economy halves when pensioners double, you will get 4x less than you "expect".

+1 high speed should only be enabled by multiple redundant safety system being operational. Otherwise, it needs to operate at line of sight speeds.
silon42··on Show HN: Auto Dismiss Mac OS "Allow <app> to find devices on local networks?"
Linux is no better... Why should I ever allow "xdg-portal-something" access to "wallet" when I start chromium (or some app embeds it)?
silon42··on Old.reddit.com Gone
Yup... stopped working, so I can't browser reddit anymore anywhere where I'm not logged in (work, phone, tablet).
silon42··on Four Months of Zig
You could easily have explicit RAAI... the compiler just needs to complain until you write all drop(x) explicitly. Maybe an idea for future of Zig.
silon42··on Run full iOS 16.5 firmware on Android Devices
Yes, Android is worse in some ways that it was 10 versions ago.
silon42··on Nordwand Mono – A monospace font for coders and adventurers
Someone fork under new name to have these 2 changes as default.
silon42··on Wayland desktop for Linux with skeuomorphic design
Or an alternative solution, fork to remove Adwaita.
silon42··on Tiny Little Office
Maybe it's slop now, but the idea should be packaged into client side applications.
silon42··on Making big downloads resumable in Firefox
It would be good to have a hash as part of headers, otherwise this is not an acceptable risk by default.
silon42··on Passkeys are a trap
If I can sync from phone (Android and also iOS), to Linux / browser (Firefox), that's fine. Or is it?
silon42··on Keyboard differences between Windows and Macs
Maybe Pause key could be used for legacy "Ctrl+Z" and "Ctrl+Break" for Ctrl+C
silon42··on Keyboard differences between Windows and Macs
I immediately swapped the Alt/Cmd when I had to use a Mac...

Regarding Fn even Thinkpad has now changed it so Ctrl is in the corner.

silon42··on A 40ms Go garbage collector pause caused by swap
It would probably make sense to disable swapping "code" also for non-GC languages (or at least do it as a last resort).
silon42··on Powerless F1 drivers frustrated by Bahrain F1 software glitch
It's a turbo that muffles the sound (and resulting reduced revs because high RPM was restricted due to cost reasons).
silon42··on European payments groups join forces to challenge US dominance
I remember when there was Eurocard/Mastercard...
silon42··on Google breaks promise to provide 10 years of updates to Chromebooks
The only reason I'd consider buying a Chromebook is to install Linux on it... Same is true for Googlebook.
silon42··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Tesla Model 3 is a huge car for Europe. I would never consider it due to that.
silon42··on Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop
That sounds great, but I don't fully agree... IMO a compositor should be able to provide a data structure (unchangeable, mostly or fully opaque) that the app can save/restore across sessions.
silon42··on Owners mourn spoiled food after firmware update bricks Samsung smart fridges
There's a name for when they don't: e-waste.
silon42··on Owners mourn spoiled food after firmware update bricks Samsung smart fridges
Maybe they were testing spoiled food detection /s
silon42··on Linux support is coming to Snapdragon X2 series
That's not a full solution... proper platform would have backward compatibility, so an OS from today will work on hardware released in 5 years.
silon42··on Markdown in /src
yet is extremely load-bearing here.
silon42··on Markdown in /src
So, if .md is the new "source", target LLM generated sources should be removed from VCS?
silon42··on I don't like passkeys
Then passkeys are a guarantee of account loss, if there is no reasonable way of recovery.
silon42··on I don't like passkeys
Is there a reason why passkeys couldn't be used in "expire-periodically" mode?
silon42··on Minimal Phone 2
Is this missing Android navigation buttons? I wonder if they considered to have them physical again.
silon42··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
They could offer controlled "failure of service" service where they randomly take stuff offline and you have to pay to get it back if you don't have a backup/recovery strategy.
silon42··on Every invoice in Brazil's economy runs on SOAP 1.2
Ironically, most XML signatures I had to use, they usually didn't schema validate.
