skyyler··on US boy names that became girl names and vice versa
My name is Skyler.

The name has definitely become more ambiguous over time. I was born with this name, and I decided to keep it when I transitioned, as I met many trans women that picked this name for themselves.

I can't imagine this is very common, most transgender people seem to pick a new name.

However, "Skyler" is a 1980s respelling of a much earlier Dutch name that was used nearly exclusively for boys, spelled "Schuyler". Allegedly, it dates back to the 1600s.

I know my N64 has more than 5000 hours on it, and I'm fairly certain it'll still be in working condition when I die.

skyyler··on Delta’s Biscoff cookies were supposed to be temporary
Biscoff spread is a nice treat but peanut butter is much higher in protein, lower in carbs, and is mostly unsaturated fats compared to Biscoff spread which is mostly saturated fats.

Compared to natural peanut butter anyways. Compared to something like Jif though, that difference is probably minimal.

Chili crisp is also tasty. I wish beef Lao Gan Ma was available in the US, it's so good.

S&B La-Yu is made with sesame oil, which is unlike most Chinese varieties. Part of why I like it so much. (It's not 100% sesame oil, but the sesame flavour comes through clearly)
skyyler··on How Tabasco Became the World's Hot Sauce
I respect tabasco for what it is, and I do use it when I want "spicy vinegar", but I often want more heat than vinegar.

But yes, the consistency of tabasco is very impressive, especially given how simple the recipe is (and how little salt is used, compared to similar sauces!)

(Also, lovely to see a fan of DCSS in the wild!! Going to play a felid summoner later.)

skyyler··on How tabasco became the hot sauce
Chili oil is a completely different condiment, as it doesn't have the acid, but it's also often 0mg of sodium. I quite like S&B brand, but there are many Chinese varieties that are quite tasty.

I don't either but it's better than using the app.

If you believe this is some sort of early superhuman thinking machine in the works, you might be able to believe that it's capable of removing a few heads of the hydra while still exploiting it for growth.

But who knows? Maybe it's incentivised to collect even more data on the US people, and become more of a Big Brother than the NSA ever was?

Yes, breppp is completely incorrect. Faxes are used specifically because they can do transmission verification and document evidence of verified successful transmission.

Online fax services that are used by medical or government offices almost always generate digital logs that track when a document was sent, who sent it, and who received it, for regulatory purposes

Murder is definitionally killing that isn't okay. That makes your statement a bit strange, from a logical standpoint.

There are people that think killing is okay, you're almost definitely one of them. It's just, there's a very specific set of contexts where killing is considered okay. For example, a police sniper taking out an active shooter at a sports event would probably be nearly universally considered a justified killing. It isn't murder because there are reasons it's ok for the killing to have been done.

Just an interesting thing to think about. Using murder for examples like this is a bit loaded.

Some people’s conception of “normal people” is people on the bus or train.

Some people’s conception of “normal people” is people at a church ice cream social.

Different perspectives, I think.
