sleet··on Frustration project: Automate data entry into PeopleSoft with Selenium
RPA (Robotic Process Automation) is a big category of tools that can be summarised as ‘automating boring stuff’. You often see it used for repetitive data entry, e.g.

1. Load excel sheet from X:\...

2. Login to Y

3. For each row navigate to ... then enter data

4. Submit, if there’s a validation error add it to and excel workbook

5. Email exception report to ...

sleet··on 2018 MacBook Pro Review
I've had the 5th Gen X1 Carbon for a while now, its served me well I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
sleet··on Ask HN: What are the things that you have automated in your personal life?
Seems like an odd solution. Can't you just leave a bowl of water out? Does your dog have bladder control issues?
sleet··on Canada using Excel function for immigration lottery
"The Liberals introduced a lottery in 2017 in an effort to make the system fairer – previously, applications were accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The program receives roughly 100,000 applications each year and selects 10,000"
sleet··on America’s Teens Are Choosing YouTube Over Facebook
How would you separate desktops and laptops? (Honest question, I'm not sure how you would do that)

I assume the stats are based on usage not a survey.

sleet··on What’s the waiter doing with the computer screen? (2012)
Yes, however you can do:

Ctrl+V, Ctrl, T

To paste then remove formatting.

Personally I still use notepad or the address bar.

sleet··on Age and High-Growth Entrepreneurship
I know you've dropped your first idea but you may want to take a look at https://transcribeme.com
sleet··on Age and High-Growth Entrepreneurship
I agree but there's probably a limit on that sentiment.

If you start a family you are likely to become more risk adverse, this would increase again as you approach retirement.

sleet··on Credit Card Signatures Are About to Become Extinct in the U.S
Sorry to hear your woes. Most inter-bank transfers are settled within the hour here. Overnight at most. Hopefully your systems improve.
sleet··on Credit Card Signatures Are About to Become Extinct in the U.S
I live in New Zealand. Everything is done by electronic fund transfers. I have been a renter, now I'm a landlord. I have also run businesses.
sleet··on Credit Card Signatures Are About to Become Extinct in the U.S
Probably the big difference is that I live in New Zealand. We've had good electronic funds transfers systems for a long time.

It amazes me that cheques are still used. I'm 36 and I've never issued a cheque, I think I was issued a cheque book with my first account but never used it.
sleet··on Why are diapers so expensive?
You seem to have cut out the parts that make it compute. Try reading the words in-between your quotes.
sleet··on Why are diapers so expensive?
Just the first one that came up, I'm sure there are cheaper options.

sleet··on Ask HN: How did you find your first hire?
It's usually someone I have worked with in the past.

sleet··on Is the open office layout dead?
The desks can adjust in height. Also everyone is welcome to have a permanent desk if they prefer which can be customized to their desires. People bring their own keyboard.
sleet··on Is the open office layout dead?
A large screen typically isn't a problem.

The office I work in has a number of the options mentioned - privacy pods, and a mixture of zoning and some dedicated desks. All the work spaces have nice monitors but you'll need to bring your own ergonomic keyboard and mouse.

sleet··on APIs as infrastructure: future-proofing Stripe with versioning
From the article:

"We also tailor our API reference documentation to specific users. It notices who is logged in and annotates fields based on their account API version."

sleet··on Facebook Profit Jumps 71% Year-over-Year
I believe its 99% of the growth in digital advertising[1], not all advertising.

sleet··on Analog Computers
I believe the $75k minimum salary is for non-skilled jobs (the point being, if you're in a non-skilled but 'high' paying role we're still interested in you). The minimum salary for skilled jobs is $50k [1][2]

That and I doubt you would find many people working at F&P Healthcare that earn less than $75k.
