snapcaster··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
disgusting
snapcaster··on AI promised less work. I've never worked more
None of this changes the facts of the comment you're responding to. Every business must extract surplus value from their employee's work to be profitable. Nobody said every business has to be miserable, or not mask this extraction in fluffy terms. Doesn't mean it isn't happening though
snapcaster··on 8 in 10 Americans oppose live-streaming execution
I go back and forth on this. I'm generally opposed, but I also think that if we have a death penalty it shouldn't be so bloodless. It should be a beheading that the governor of the state has to do themselves. We shouldn't be able to pretend we aren't doing something incredibly violent
snapcaster··on I built a programming language that LLMs can't use
Yeah slap some bioweapon creation references in there and we're really cooking
snapcaster··on I built a programming language that LLMs can't use
An approach for this might be to just attempt to trigger guardrails at all opportunities.

Make writing "regular" code involve racial slurs, societal taboos, talk about committing crimes and making bioweapons etc. I think this approach is more likely to work but man would it be hard to explain to people

snapcaster··on AdFection: Targeted ads turned into a pipeline for zero-click mercenary spyware
This doesn't work anymore give it up man
snapcaster··on Amsterdam police confiscates server left-wing ISP A/I at American request
So many words devoted to tone policing. so few words devoted to the actual issue being discussed
snapcaster··on Amsterdam police confiscates server left-wing ISP A/I at American request
Really? go do it at work then
snapcaster··on Why is every rationalist blog post way too long?
I think rationalist blogs are often useful for self improvement. It's like a lot of religious thought, if you take it too seriously you'll go insane but in small doses it makes you better
snapcaster··on ICE Planning $100M 'Nightmare' Domestic Spy Program
Do you think privacy has value?
snapcaster··on Amsterdam police confiscates server left-wing ISP A/I at American request
I guess we're ruled by disabled people and our colleagues babies?
snapcaster··on Hackers activate automatic defrosting in supermarket fridges across Europe
>but to summarize, this is going to do millions of dollars of economic and political damage, and contributes to social upheaval

millions of dollars of economic damage sure, it doesn't contribute to social upheaval. It's a one time pain in the ass, this seems pretty hysterical tbh

snapcaster··on Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet
Weren't japanese cars basically better than american ones from the jump?
snapcaster··on Apple's new 'Switch to Safari' campaign details why you should ditch Chrome
When nothing is stopping you from using an alternative i just don't see it
snapcaster··on Apple's new 'Switch to Safari' campaign details why you should ditch Chrome
How do you defend a company with 30% marketshare being a monopoly but the other company with 70% market share isn't? I can see the duopoly argument, but no idea how apple could be a monopoly by itself
snapcaster··on Hackers activate automatic defrosting in supermarket fridges across Europe
Not surprised they would hack systems, surprised they would spend their efforts on shit like this that doesn't have any real impact
snapcaster··on Hackers activate automatic defrosting in supermarket fridges across Europe
So they mess with 5% of one chain's freezers? idk maybe i'm being naive seems so silly
snapcaster··on Hackers activate automatic defrosting in supermarket fridges across Europe
Really though? this feels cartoonishly evil, like the kind of thing a children's cartoon villain would do. It doesn't have any meaningful impact
snapcaster··on AI less regulated than milk, Microsoft president says in warning over safety
true. it's always self interested obviously
snapcaster··on Hackers activate automatic defrosting in supermarket fridges across Europe
immediately thought of this article as well. really interesting. I could imagine someone using options/futures or other obscure financial instruments to make some money off this. hard to think of other motivations
snapcaster··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
I assume they're comparing them in terms of employment value not effort required
snapcaster··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
>And, no, this is not just because there's more Indian's immigrating.

yes it is right? am i mistaken here?

snapcaster··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
whats your point?
snapcaster··on Nature's capacity to 'bounce back' when species are lost is overestimated: study
The takeaway for me is that reality and systems in general are incredibly complex, and often doing something has second or third order effects that are almost impossible to know about ahead of time
snapcaster··on Let's Ditch Google (Verb)
companies are stupid then, because it's obviously good for them. You're maybe thinking about how trademark lawyers pursue use of it but that's for tactical reasons not because it isn't great marketing
snapcaster··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
Invisible Women and the Culture series by Iain Banks (Use of Weapons currently). Both really good
