How is that relevant to the layoffs?
snappyTertle··on Facebook users said no to tracking, and now advertisers are panicking
You're coming from privilege. Just because you can afford it doesn't mean everyone else has money to spend on entertainment.

Blames free markets. Describes non-free markets.
snappyTertle··on Thousands of New Millionaires Are About to Eat San Francisco Alive
That's assuming the area under the curve remains constant, when it doesn't. Redistribution will make the total wealth shrink.

If only we had private companies that can freely experiment with different business models...
snappyTertle··on Amazon Plans to Split HQ2 in Two Locations: NY and VA
It's conservative to let people keep what they earn. It's progressive to take from people (tax) and give to Amazon in the form of subsidies.

Comic Sans was ahead of its time
snappyTertle··on Ex-Google Employee Urges Lawmakers to Take on Company
I'm in the camp of the fewer regulations the better, but one thing I think needs more regulation is how the private sector and public sector interact. There is just way too much conflict of interest when they mix.
snappyTertle··on Elchemy – write type safe Elixir using Elm-like syntax
What about OTP?
snappyTertle··on Ask HN: Your favorite syntactic sugar from any language?
Destructuring in almost any functional language and ES6 JS.
snappyTertle··on America's Startup Scene Is Looking Anemic
The wealthy get handouts? What redistribution?
snappyTertle··on Is capitalism a threat to democracy?
Individually weak people can band together and vote to steal from the less weak, but smaller groups. Does voting and being represented make stealing moral?
snappyTertle··on Is capitalism a threat to democracy?
Democracy is a threat to capitalism.
snappyTertle··on FCC’s Inspector General investigating whether Ajit Pai acted inappropriately
He's probably being paid to start the investigation too.

What would you value a technology that aims to separate money and state? Does it have no value?
snappyTertle··on Enter 'petro': Venezuela to launch oil-backed cryptocurrency
Government backed crypto? No thanks...that defeats the entire purpose.
snappyTertle··on The Joy of Erlang; Or, How to Ride a Toruk (2011)
Learning Erlang/Elixir is like learning a new paradigm, or a new way to think about programming. You can then apply these concepts to other languages. It's made me a better programmer.

Kotlin, IMO, is just a "better" java. It would be just learning new syntax if you are already familiar with java like languages.

snappyTertle··on Ajit Pai is right
His arguments are the same. Regulation causes burdens. Government regulating enforcing their version of net neutrality is a burden on the market.
snappyTertle··on The Paradise Papers: How Ridiculously Easy It Is for the Rich to Avoid Taxes
The definition of a Ponzi scheme is paying off existing investors with money contributed by new investors. If it's a successful Ponzi scheme due to people dying, then that's a different argument. A Ponzi scheme is a ponzi scheme whether it's a success or failure.
snappyTertle··on The Paradise Papers: How Ridiculously Easy It Is for the Rich to Avoid Taxes
I agree, voluntary interaction between each other is what creates wealth. Not the shuffling of stuff from one group of people to another.
snappyTertle··on The Paradise Papers: How Ridiculously Easy It Is for the Rich to Avoid Taxes
Why tax income?
snappyTertle··on The Paradise Papers: How Ridiculously Easy It Is for the Rich to Avoid Taxes
The state is the only entity that can actually money grab
snappyTertle··on What to Worry About in This Surreal Bull Market
Warren Buffet is one of the world's greatest investor and what he says about gold makes sense. However, there is more than one way to invest. Buffet has made fortunes taking a fundamentalist approach and values companies. There are also other successful investors that try to predict macro trends.

I also suggested foreign assets that are not holding onto a lot of US debt.

snappyTertle··on What to Worry About in This Surreal Bull Market
I think the bubble is the US dollar. Currently our debts are being serviced by issuing more debt!

Safe places IMO are deflationary assets (gold, and to a much more risky extent, bitcoin...I know this will start a flame war lol). Another option is foreign assets in countries that are not holding onto a lot of US debt.

I'm not an oracle, so I can't predict timing, although I do think it will happen relatively soon in the next 1-3 years.

snappyTertle··on The Paradise Papers: How Ridiculously Easy It Is for the Rich to Avoid Taxes
It's not money grabbing. It's money keeping. They aren't taking from others, but keeping the money the earned.
snappyTertle··on The Paradise Papers: How Ridiculously Easy It Is for the Rich to Avoid Taxes
So...you benefit from the social programs of the US without contributing. Nice solution!
snappyTertle··on The Paradise Papers: How Ridiculously Easy It Is for the Rich to Avoid Taxes
If you believe you own your body and the labor you produce, why would anyone else (including the state) have a right to your body's production?

People say "social contract". When did we opt in, and can we opt out? It's being enforced without consent. We pay for things we don't want. Whether this be never ending wars around the world, or the welfare state such as the ponzi scheme known as social security.

snappyTertle··on The Paradise Papers: How Ridiculously Easy It Is for the Rich to Avoid Taxes
You don't have to be libertarian to want to maximize profit/minimize cost.
