snowpid··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
" our post wasn't "basic atheism" (a basic atheist probably wouldn't write anything there at all) but New Atheism, which was such a web community-spoiling scene and thankfully peaked and declined nearly two decades ago though you apparently didn't go the memo. " You mean people like Kazimierz Łyszczyński (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazimierz_%C5%81yszczy%C5%84sk... ) or the growing atheism in the Arab world ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy3JuwGJWBE ) ? I didnt get the memo? In my country Catholism is losing constantly people and English use net was not a thing back then.

" Most Catholics you have met are immaterial " Most Catholics just suck what they learned during child hood. They are postliberal as they wish a Catholic society which is hence not liberal. Arguing with Aristoteles is just plain sane washing as the bible is intellectuelly very thin.

snowpid··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
"[...] so tiresome. " I only wrote very basic Atheist concepts. If that is tiresome to you, I dont know, what else.

" Catholics amount to a minority of people making up postliberal trends, " I cited a bigger group of people who have a problem with the liberal Popper. You can call Marxist classical postliberalism.

" e Catholics spend a lot of their time arguing not quite from "Jesus who was invented 1950 years ago" but from Aristotelian concepts " I doubt it. Most catholics I've met dont do it. Sorry. And I doubt that most Catholics do any deep philosophical statement at all. You can ask them how I could disapprove their belief. You wouldnt get an answer, sometimes a very angry reaction.

Sorry you can define criteria how to find a better understanding of the world. E.g. Popper did it (as he asked the innocent question if one is aloud to disprove your theory)

It pisses lots of people including Marxist, Nazis, Gender Study Theorists, Catholics, as all of them believe stuff which they dont like to disapprove.

Your statement smells like Catholic rhetoric so I am happy to announce the truth is there is no god. Jesus was not his son and he was certainly not reborn. Just some folks who invented this story 1950 years ago.

Lovely "The American Experiment – let’s revive our sense of wonder, curiosity, and responsibility about what America is and can be"

It is repeatedly astonishing how exceptional Americans feel. HN always educate how self - centred American as I dont find here the illiterate and the uneducated but university graduates from the best universites.

For instance on democratic side from Switzerland and Taiwan my country (Germany) can learn more. And how to have a good life, France or Italy or Sweden (list is not finished) are better role models but even then, Germany has its own unique culture which I am currently happy to live in.

Interessatingly according to https://www.verbraucherzentrale.de/wissen/digitale-welt/onli...

games will be regulated and cant be easily shut down. Lets see what "Stop killing games" will say.

edit: According above website had too optimistic interpretation. Anyway it looks like Stop Killing Game transforms into pro-consumer video games association. And thats overdue and yet very interesting and missing.

snowpid··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
" nobody's obliged to come to your rescue in force, in practical terms it is not. " 1.) My source claims the opposite. 2.) This is the same for NATO and Mecca Pact practically. 3.) Actually a lot of lawyers see the EU article is more stricter than the NATO article. I trust them more than a goal shifting HN poster.
snowpid··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
I started the discussion with the EU is infact a military alliance. You shifted the goal post by your counter argument.

Talking about EU politics you have to use non English sources sometimes. Why not auto translate them?

snowpid··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
EU is indeed a military alliance. They are just no integrated command structures but this is common among most military alliances across the world.

SAFE credits are an EU military thing.

snowpid··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
In anycase around 50 % of people in Island want to join the EU. Are they are of the cult?
snowpid··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
The majority of UK inhabitans wants to rejoin the EU. It is indeed democratically legitime.

I talked about Trump. You ignore it, but for starter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020s_anti-LGBTQ_movement_in_t...

And abortion in Germany is practically legal for the 3 months. Though CDU is against abortions the current government hasnt done any step to stiff it, quiet in contrast to Trump government.

Many Americans just ignore Trump. Probably they really think they live in the greatest nation on Earth and Trump is just a minor annoyance or something.

snowpid··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
This thread at worst is a negative example of HN. The blog post is reasonable and constructive, the petition is reasonable, the EU 's packaging law is bad executed on this part (other parts are good like forbidding PFAS on food packages, you cant imagine, this was aloud!) but whuge amout of people (or are these bots?) freak out up to stupid conspiracy theories that EU politics want to beg down small companies with packaging laws(or something). HN moderation totally failed and repeatedly fails on EU policy topics. Sometimes I think these are paid bots by some SV dude, sometimes I think it just frustrated Americans who cant handle that Trump is failing and they become aggressive that US is not the best country or something. But the moderation failure is very very consistent.
snowpid··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
The reason is there is a huge movement against abortions and gay people in the US including the president voted by 50%+. E.g. Germany has strict abortion laws and liberal gay laws, but no real important movement to strict abortions or exclude gay people. This is the reason of perception. Maybe you should ask yourself why people in the internet feel like that.
snowpid··on A third world engineer responds to “RISC-V: They should have known better”
Pickleball and Hyrox is very common in the DACH region, Hyrox was invented in Hamburg...

" Furthermore, the Ivy-versus-nonIvy division and rhetoric is nonexistent in the Bay. " Non existent in DACH region or CEE because why should it?

" Thirdly, the vibe change around layoffs the job market is completely different. While there have been plenty of layoffs (and friends and acquaintances of mine have been impacted), most have been able to land jobs within weeks with a similar base/bonus/equity structure." I think people with problems are more likely to post and secondly maybe you are convoluting your social circle with the whole SV.

snowpid··on A third world engineer responds to “RISC-V: They should have known better”
" HN hasn't been Bay Area centric in years. Honestly, most comments and usership on the platform seems to now align with DACH and CEE. "

I like to encounter discussions about German digital health system or the German start up system or neo2. I've never seen them so I doubt it.

Also almost no debates about Polish stuff (Hello neigbours!)

snowpid··on A third world engineer responds to “RISC-V: They should have known better”
While I appreciated your source 1.) I doubt 99% of Europeans work during 3am - 9am 2.) At least there can be other reasons: 2a.) EU times and African times are basically the same and Africa has a huge population. 2b.) India is closer timewise to EU/African time zones 2c.) What are about posts afterworks?

" RL conversation topics in the Bay Area tech scene are entirely different from those on HN shows a massive divergence in userbase. " Any proof?

Sorry but today anyone can shit on the USA. Compare the UK to working democracies. Italy has clearly a written constitution and has seen way more Prime Ministers than the UK.
snowpid··on Poland now 6th-largest EU economy, ahead of Switzerland and Belgium
I am really happy for Poland getting rich (they deserved it!), but with little knowledge about Polish politics you just have to shack your head.

" Warsaw with a German friend who had relocated there. He said it was more Conservative than Germany and there was more freedom of expression." In Poland the constitutional court isnt working very good because of the former authoritarian Orban like PiS government. In case of a next Pis government only the European courts might help in case of a freedom of speech matter.

In Germany the constitutional court does work.

"they were never able to pull them away from their commitment to the Catholic church. " They do. Poland and especially the younger generation is securalising and also becomes more open to queer people. Also you can ask catholic officials how much they are willing to do for freedom of expression of atheism ("crazy") and gay men ("perverts").

Nobody is forced to eat (Italian!) Nutella instead of local made alternatives. As such many Germans do that.

The government it can use its media to influence its citizen and try it to change election results or create propangada.

France is executive heavy democracy similar to US and Latin American States. This is a very big flaw and state owned media might be contribute to.
