solidgumby··on Ask HN: Good email host?
You should not have any problems until you start having problems and then you will deeply regret thinking that running your own mail server was a neat idea. My advice: don't host your own email server unless it's your core business or you're big company, your sanity is worth more than that.
solidgumby··on Hacked Bitcoin firm plans to spread losses across all users
This sounds familiar. Exactly like neo-liberalism. Privatizing profits while communizing loss.
solidgumby··on Ask HN: What are good reads for designing APIs?
This is my goto resource when the team starts bike-shedding on implementation details. http://jsonapi.org/
solidgumby··on Maily Herald – Rails open source self-hosted Mailchimp alternative
Ever had to deal with email deliverability issues? This alone is a very good reason to go with a hosted service. The self-hosted software looks good but I'd never touch that with a stick. There might be cases where regulation/privacy rules makes the self-hosted system useful/required but in all other cases, do yourself a favor and use a hosted service.
solidgumby··on Why is Canadian English unique?
The Canadian Constitution is a huge pandora box no one wants to open.
solidgumby··on Fallout 4
There is no way to easily change the (location based) automatically selected language. Right, I might be in Spain right now, but I want the english trailer...
solidgumby··on Show HN: Dofsome.com - Chrome-less photo hosting
Nice interface.

When you click on a picture, the slideshow should be paused by default. I found it annoying when the picture I was checking changed automatically.

I did not see the pause button at first sight, you should make it bigger and put it bottom center, and by default it should be a "play slideshow" button.

solidgumby··on KickStarter project: a multi mapping JS client-side clustering library
At first, I thought that the guy was using KS as an exit strategy from his current startup, Maptimize. Then I realized that he was creating a new, open-source JS client-side library, which is a real need. Kudos to that!

What strikes me is how one could use KS to "sell" useful code/assets from a failed startup. Or, to an extend, use KS as an exit strategy - going open source instead of going public.

solidgumby··on Ask HN: What music do you like to listen to while you program?
Awesome, Groovesalad ! I had forgotten this one since a while, definitely tuning in right now !
solidgumby··on Poll: Your preferred music for working?
post-dubstep, UK-funky and some synthpop ( Don't ask me why but I love Freezepop)
