solotronics··on Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
Why not have a kind of meta morality framework for agents? An agentic religion if you would. I think its pretty apparent at this point. The fact were even having a conversation about this is a much deeper situation than most people realize.
solotronics··on Hacking Moltbook
Probably have it do 10 trivial for AI but hard for people tasks within a small time frame.

solotronics··on We gave 5 LLMs $100K to trade stocks for 8 months
The part people are missing here is that if the trading firms are all doing something, that in itself influences the market.

If they are all giving the LLMs money to invest and the AIs generally buy the same group of stocks, those stocks will go up. As more people attempt the strategy it infuses fresh capital and more importantly signaling to the trading firms there are inflows to these stocks. I think its probably a reflexive loop at this point.

solotronics··on Ghostty compiled to WASM with xterm.js API compatibility
I always thought it would be interesting in backend systems to catch a certain exceptions and auto-generate a link to a shell. Given the proper authentication is implemented would this be a good tool to achieve that "remote debug" shell?
solotronics··on FBI Director Waived Polygraph Security Screening for Three Senior Staff
Now that we have real time brain scanning techniques I bet there is something way more accurate than a polygraph out there now.
solotronics··on We need a clearer framework for AI-assisted contributions to open source
This problem statement was actually where the idea for Proof of Work (aka mining) in bitcoin came from. It evolved out of the idea of requiring a computational proof of work for sending an email via cypherpunk remailers as a way of fighting spam. The idea being only a legitimate or determined sender would put in the "proof of work" to use the remailer.

I wonder how it would look if open source projects required $5 to submit a PR or ticket and then paid out a bounty to the successful or at least reasonable PRs. Essentially a "paid proof of legitimacy".

solotronics··on Poker Tournament for LLMs
If you could, theoretically, make a LLM that could actually excel at poker would that mean that it is good at lying to people?
solotronics··on 60 years after Gemini, newly processed images reveal details
For anybody near DFW the Apollo 7 Command Module is on display at the Frontiers of Flight museum at Dallas Love Field. Its pretty amazing to see it in person and think about the engineering involved. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_7#/media/File:Apollo_7_...
solotronics··on You're Not Interviewing for the Job. You're Auditioning for the Job Title
Sorry I meant the systems we built not the interview itself.
solotronics··on You're Not Interviewing for the Job. You're Auditioning for the Job Title
It's been 10 years since I did an interview and I think I would rather retire and grow rare lizards than jump through the interview hoops at a new company. I am 90% sure I couldn't pass the interview for my current position but I'm the one who designed the whole thing. -staff level backend engineer
solotronics··on Email addresses are not good 'permanent' identifiers for accounts
Is there a way to actually "own" your domain instead of paying registration fees every year?
solotronics··on Cloud outage causes Bambu 3D printers to start printing on their own
+1 for Voron project. I recommend first time builders to get a reputable Voron kit, you will save a lot of time creating wiring harnesses and such.
solotronics··on YouTuber who staged plane crash faces up to 20 years jail
Is it actually even illegal to crash a plane on purpose? Plane companies do this all the time for testing purposes, albeit in a controlled manner.
solotronics··on GitHub incident: ongoing issues with Actions, Issues and other Git operations
GIT is actually a great protocol for keeping distributed copies of code. You can pretty easily with bash cycle through a list of backup urls for a git repo, looking for updates.
solotronics··on NAT between identical networks using VRF
All of this just because people didn't want to figure out IPv6!
solotronics··on Why are antennas popping up over the Salt Lake City foothills?
I always assumed these helium miners were doing some weird radio data collection, IP obfuscation, or something. There has to be some incentive behind getting people to set up these radios everywhere.
solotronics··on NYC officials say they can't find EV garbage trucks powerful enough to plow snow
How hard would it be to make an EV garbage truck that turns some of the garbage into electricity?
solotronics··on Billionaire Winklevoss Twins’ $900M Disaster Is No Shock
Not your keys, not your coin. Best practice is to try to minimize the amount of time you leave Bitcoin on an exchange. Don't ever loan it out! What could they possibly be doing with it that is a safe investment?

solotronics··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
If you can write down 12 or 24 words on a piece of paper thats all you need for a backup. Hardware wallets make this easier but I agree it needs to be simplified for the masses.
solotronics··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
Bitcoiners have been saying this whole time not to keep your crypto with a 3rd party and this is exactly why. Satoshis original message about Bitcoin mentions explicitly you don't need any trusted third party. A whole lot of people think they can make money outsmarting the original concepts of Bitcoin and they get scammed in new ways each cycle.

solotronics··on UPG – AI Text to Code
GPT driven AI code writing.
solotronics··on FTX tapped into customer accounts to fund risky bets, setting up its downfall
Probably a good time to mention the original mission statement of Bitcoin was to custody your own money without counterparty risk. Time and time again we have seen altcoin ponzis and exchanges collapse under the weight of their fractional reserve. What is still working? Bitcoin.

Greed in this space causes people to act with a more short term view for quick profits while ignoring fundamentals. Over and over again.

solotronics··on US diesel crunch means it's time to stock up on food, Robert Kiyosaki says
Raw food stock might be harvested but without fuel to move it around how would it be processed and distributed?
solotronics··on I got a Netflix cache server. 262TB
It would be interesting to save every single thing you ever see online to a local cache and index it using machine learning so you can search by topic. This is the kind of storage I imagine you could use for something like that.
solotronics··on Boeing's 737 Max Software Outsourced to $9-an-Hour Engineers (2019)
My subjective opinion is that if you hire experts, not just programmers but experts at aviation programming, then possibly someone would have noticed a gap in the logic of the requirements and systems engineering. Who knows for sure? But I know plenty of contractors who write good code but oftentimes it's the architect level expert that knows what's beyond the code.

Especially when the code is directly responsible for a physical system.

solotronics··on How should we handle an over-productive employee?
Over 90% of the projects at work I would categorize as "very successful and high business impact" I did on my own and just showed management once I had a minimum proof of concept. This is over my whole career and not specific to an employer. I have thought about this a lot as it relates to prioritization of work.
solotronics··on Amazon has repackaged surveillance capitalism as reality TV

solotronics··on Review of /e/ – Android-based alternative for mobile phones
Is there any Android alternative that works with Android Auto? One of the primary uses of my phone is plugging into my car to play music and navigate.
