soupboy··on Texas Hold'em Hand Strength, Visualized
Not a poker expert by far, but this could be because 2/3 can only participate in three straight draws (A2345,23456,34567) whereas 2/7 can be in seven straight hands. (A2345, 23456, 34567, 45678, 56789, 6789T, 789TJ)
soupboy··on Identifiable Images of Bystanders Extracted from Corneal Reflections (2013)

soupboy··on What are hedge funds, and what social functions do they serve?
> How did a few asset managers earn more money in a single year than Pierpont Morgan did in his whole life?

Ummm, no they don't. $1 in 1913 is around $24 in today's dollars[http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=1&year1=1913&ye...]. So JPM's net worth today would be $36 billion making him the 12th richest person person in the world [http://www.bloomberg.com/billionaires/2014-09-19/aaa].

soupboy··on Orkut shutting down September 30

soupboy··on Orkut shutting down September 30
In case anyone from Google is reading this, the link to Google Takeout is taking me to your internal 'moma' sign-in page.
soupboy··on Why does 1Password need to see all of Dropbox?
They address this in their security user guide - http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/Security/dropbox-permi...
soupboy··on The best todo list app for any developer
+1 for todo.txt. I used it extensively all of last year and saw an immense boost in productivity. Best part is the ability to write plugins.
soupboy··on Zappos sells shit product $100k

soupboy··on UAV Provides Colorado Flooding Assistance Until FEMA Freaks Out
FEMA probably has a set of protocols and procedures around this and it is unreasonable to expect them to change their entire workflow to accommodate a couple of drones. Especially in a time of emergency, the best thing to do would be to not do random things and actually follow a set of rules so that you don't miss anything.
soupboy··on Google search for "binary" (easter egg)
Since when have these been around? Also, can you share some details on how the Google search easter egg infrastructure works? I've always found these very interesting. They kind of give a human touch to what sometimes feel like "cold" search result pages.
soupboy··on Google search for "binary" (easter egg)
For those who didn't catch it, the search returns "About 0b111001101100101000001000000 results (0.18 seconds)".
soupboy··on Why Are Google Employees So Disloyal?
I stopped reading at "Potential new recruits are asked trick questions like "How many golf balls do you think will fit into a school bus?"

soupboy··on Josef Desimone, Facebook's executive chef, has died
According to http://articles.latimes.com/2008/apr/04/business/fi-chef4, Desimone worked for Google before Facebook. "As Google's first executive chef, Ayers hired Desimone in 2003 when Google was growing so fast that they cooked in the back of an 18-wheeler and served meals under tents."

Quite an amazing journey. RIP.

soupboy··on Microsoft reorganizes
"The frontier of high-value scenarios we enable will march outward, but we have strengths and proven capabilities on which we will draw." What does that even mean? The letter is filled with nonsense sentences like this.
soupboy··on My Song Got Played On Pandora 1 Million Times and All I Got Was $16.89
For this to be a fair comparison shouldn't they compare the 1 million Pandora streams to (18797 radio plays * number of listeners each time)?
soupboy··on WWDC 2013 Keynote
"Live Streaming video requires Safari 4 or later on Mac OS X v10.6 or later; Safari on iOS 4.2 or later. Streaming via Apple TV requires second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 5.0.2 or later."
soupboy··on BBM for iOS and Android to Launch This Summer
Same for India. Everyone and their mom uses WhatsApp
soupboy··on Yahoo shuts down six products
What I find even more interesting that these shutdowns is that an entry from the Yahoo corp blog has made it to the front page of Hacker News. This may be a sign that people are starting to find Yahoo related news interesting again.
soupboy··on All American Airlines Flights Grounded, Experiencing Nationwide Computer Outage
"How do you become a millionaire? Make a billion dollars and then buy an airline." -- Warren Buffett [http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2012/05/23/if-you-have...]
soupboy··on [dead]
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity?
soupboy··on The Google Graveyard
I actually liked the visualization till I saw Google Glass at the bottom. IMO there was no need to do that.
soupboy··on Google Petitioned By Fans Of Google Reader To Reconsider Shutdown
I used to be a heavy Google Reader user and I'm actually happy they are shutting it down. This will force innovation in this field by removing the biggest player in the market.
soupboy··on Google swinging axe, cutting its Motorola workforce by 10 percent
I used to work at Motorola in India. It seemed like I had around 10 layers of management above me just to reach the India head. I think this is a good move by Google and will only serve to make the company more efficient.
soupboy··on Introducing Roku 3
Headphones in the remote is such a brilliant idea!
soupboy··on Vim Git Gutter
+1 that request. Really good plugin otherwise.
soupboy··on Google launches 18 new Google+ features
Most things in Google+ make me think "I wish more people would join and participate. This feature has so much potential!"
soupboy··on Tim Cook's Freshman Year: The Apple CEO Speaks
From the interview - "Eighty percent of our revenues are from products that didn’t exist 60 days ago. Is there any other company that would do that?". If accurate, this is truly remarkable.
