sparrish··on Mossad Has Devices Like the Exploding Pagers in "Every Country You Can Imagine" (2025)
This is more likely to be disinformation than it is to be true.

After the 'exploding pagers', every government was inspecting and scanning their devices.

It's in Mossad's favor to keep everyone second-guessing.

sparrish··on Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains
Hetzner support is terrible. Days waiting for a canned response that clearly shows they didn't read the ticket request at all.
sparrish··on Show HN: Fly a Tesla Roadster over parked Teslas before the air runs out
Surprisingly fun. Thanks for sharing.
sparrish··on The new CC, an AI agent built for families
Will be shuttered in 3... 2... 1...

Cause it's Google.

I don't use new Google services. They've shut down too many that I loved and used daily.

sparrish··on Show HN: Pushie – Get notified with a simple webhook
So Pushover... but free?

How do they plan to keep it free? Ads?

sparrish··on Show HN: See what's behind any website: DNS, hosting, security, tech stack
No, still showing hosting at cloudflare.
sparrish··on Show HN: See what's behind any website: DNS, hosting, security, tech stack
It incorrectly identified my website as using Cloudflare. It isn't.
sparrish··on The oldest bar in every state
During covid lockdowns, several of the local, non-chain restaurants switched to 'members only' clubs because the way Colorado's covid emergency proclamation was crafted, the 'clubs' could stay open and continue to server food and drink.

My wife and I joined one at a nearby Mexican place so we could keep our date nights when all other restaurants were doing takeout only. Membership was free, they gave us a paper card we flashed at the door to get in.

sparrish··on Show HN: Snipsy – turn photos into a dated stamp keepsake, sent the same day
That is some terrible contrast on that website in dark mode.
sparrish··on Your open tabs are unfinished decisions, not bookmarks
Most of my opened tabs are waiting for a response or delivery; open support tickets, package tracking, etc. Those aren't unfinished decisions on my part but waiting on an action or response from others.
sparrish··on Show HN: Beakdown – a game inspired by Joust/Skirmish
The cardinals that just stay at the top are OP.
sparrish··on The deadly rise of giant trucks and SUVs
And I'm sure some of these stats are caused by pedestrians staring at their phones as well.
sparrish··on US Supreme Court drug users cannot be prohibited from firearms [pdf]

"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"

You can't have a citizen's militia without an armed populace. If 'the people' don't have guns, you don't have a militia.

sparrish··on Show HN: Bye-wk – Hide World Cup news from your feed
Did you see that ridiculous display last night?

What was Wenger thinking sending Walcott on that early?!

The problem with Arsenal is they always try to walk it in.

sparrish··on Show HN: Button does nothing. $1 makes it 1 pixel bigger, forever
Ah, the internet. Always trying to recreate that one, red paperclip.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_red_paperclip

sparrish··on Last.fm is now independent
So CBS spun them back out as their own corp or did the employee's or someone else buy it from CBS?

Just declaring themselves independent without details doesn't provide much context. I feel like Michael Scott just declared bankruptcy.

sparrish··on Nearly half (44%) of every T-shirt goes to waste before you even buy it
The article says that 44% loss is in pre-production, specifically the manufacturing of the yarn. Long before the textile is woven, let alone cut.
sparrish··on Show HN: Countries where you can leave your MacBook at a random coffee shop
Which is it? A random coffee shop or a Starbucks.

In the USA, I could leave my laptop at a small town coffee shop without any trouble, but never a Starbucks, which are only in larger towns and cities.

sparrish··on American Dads Became the Parents Their Fathers Never Were
As a GenX dad and now grandfather, I couldn't be happier to read this.

Every dad wants his sons to be a better father than he was. Glad to see it happening.

Nothing strengthens the knees like the weight of responsibility.

sparrish··on Spain's parliament will act against massive IP blockages by LaLiga
Play stupid games... win stupid prizes.

The judicial, nation-wide blocks on CDN IPs is absurd and should have never been allowed.

sparrish··on I aggregated 28 US Government auction sites into one search
I chose 'Colorado' from the state dropdown and got a blank page. Does the site work at all?
sparrish··on What was the first life restoration of a sauropod?
I had to click and read to satisfy my curiosity of what "life restoration" was in this context.

I was expecting Jurassic Park action but found the old illustrations to be surprisingly delightful.

sparrish··on Richard Carrington's first portrait has been found
That reminds me... I need to get my Faraday cages prepped.
sparrish··on Spotlighting the World Factbook as We Bid a Fond Farewell
I remember doing research in the print version of the World Factbook back in college days. It was the most accurate and up-to-date info we could get on countries before the Interwebs. RIP.
sparrish··on Rural Americans are trying to hold back the tide of AI
Hindrance to what? I'm trying to understand your comment.
sparrish··on Silver plunges 30% in worst day since 1980, gold tumbles
It'll recover that 30%+ within a week or two.
sparrish··on That's not how email works
I've heard CapitalOne does the same thing... send paper mail saying their emails aren't being read.
sparrish··on LG UltraFine Evo 6K 32-inch Monitor Review
Yes, but the Asus is $8k and it also only does 60Hz.
sparrish··on LG UltraFine Evo 6K 32-inch Monitor Review
$8,000 and it only does 60Hz?! What were they thinking?
sparrish··on Pentagon readies 1,500 troops to possibly deploy to Minnesota, US media say
Because the 'protesters' are all riled up against 'the law' and will see these troops as opponents (like they see ICE). They'll attack the troops first and I firmly believe federal troops will respond (in defense) violently and in unison. That's the training.

Minnesota has no clue how serious a can of whoop-ass they're about to pry open.
