splatcollision··on Do not put plastic in the microwave
Thanks for taking the time to explain my position in more detail, this resonates.
splatcollision··on Do not put plastic in the microwave
Stovetop. Slice meat and re-sear in cast iron pan and serve on toasted bread. Oh I don’t have a toaster either!
splatcollision··on Do not put plastic in the microwave
Because I value cooking as it’s own art, not something that needs to be disrupted and optimized.
splatcollision··on Do not put plastic in the microwave
Stovetop popcorn is superior in all ways end of story.
splatcollision··on Do not put plastic in the microwave
Have not had a microwave in our home for at least 16 years, and don’t ever feel like we are missing anything. There’s literally never any ordinary household situation that requires that fast heating. Just put your leftovers in a pan and stir them occasionally!

splatcollision··on Apple’s Parental Controls Are Broken
Biggest problem is app embedded web views don’t count as Safari, so if you try to block the web on a mobile, you have to block or time restrict every default app that has the remote possibility to open a link to a web view. Looking at you, Stocks…
splatcollision··on Google’s nightmare “Web Integrity API” wants a DRM gatekeeper for the web
Note to readers of this comment in the future. This is the smartest post in the thread, and should be at the top.

splatcollision··on The legacy of fy_iceworld, Counter-Strike’s divisive, popular custom map (2020)
As an average scunt main I would to inform you that you are wrong. You say that the pyro nerf was bad. Duck you (politly) pyro is dumb. I hate it when I get spy checked by m1 combo every second stop. Pro play is good game good j_peg #1 pro player, bad water mid, sawmill foeva. Crits make tf2 good I know random crits can be poopy sometimes but it’s funny random crit amazing yes gamim
splatcollision··on KDE beats macOS
Your legacy baggage is my favorite feature. I may not need any documents open for an app right now, but what about 5 minutes later? Why would I wait for photoshop to start up again just because I was doing something else for a bit. It’s called multitasking and there’s a ton of working memory these days to the point of rarely having to check, not like the legacy days you refer to.
splatcollision··on An ‘everything app’ would be bad for liberal democracies and free markets
Wait, can I use this to have HN delete my account? If so moving to Europe BRB

99 percent of the time the top comment on this site is completely worth ignoring. This is also the case here. Typical ignorance, ignore, move along

Goes with the trend of him selling the entire country off to arabs for personal profit!
splatcollision··on Show HN: Brew.fm – Let bots discover new music on Spotify for you
It's guaranteed to be a niche app, an art project even. Thanks
splatcollision··on Show HN: Brew.fm – Let bots discover new music on Spotify for you
I want a music streaming service where I can only listen to a track once, then it's unavailable forever.

splatcollision··on Oh Shit, Git
Came here to post this - better than the link under discussion above. The interactive steps through a problem helps a ton for diagnosing the right steps to fix something!
splatcollision··on Behind the Ferrari and Lamborghini rivalry
No, it’s strictly a Utica expression.
splatcollision··on Reasons to ditch Chrome and use Firefox
I just discovered the "share" item in the tab contextual menu includes AirDrop (on mac naturally) and while this doesn't help you, I was always copying and pasting a site between firefox and safari in order to send it to my iPhone, and was previously frustrated that I couldn't hit the airdrop function from firefox directly Thanks, your comment made me look for it!
splatcollision··on The impotence of the long-distance trillionaire
Sometimes the old arguments are the best. Just because something has been said before doesn't make it any less valid.
splatcollision··on Virtual offices are not remote-friendly workplaces
> Remote is about getting things done asynchronously. Is it perfect for every type of work? Of course not. But should we default to copying the inefficient processes of physical offices because you’re used to “talking it out”? No!

This is _exactly_ how I feel, where, and I've tried and failed before to express this to colleagues pre-pandemic, when I was already part time remote. Instead of demanding people be at a desk where you can walk over and interrupt them to 'throw some ideas around', make the effort to write your idea down and share it asynchronously, and others can thoughtfully reply and collaborate.

Comes down to people's brains working differently than you and I expect, where thinking only gets done if their mouth is moving and sound is coming out. These are the people that the in person offices and meetings and shoulder taps are built for, at the expense of those who can manage a coherent thought in silence, and are able to outline a problem or a question using the written word.

One is not better or worse necessarily, but being more independent in preparing communication of ideas should be something that all can work towards. It's just more flexible and "async" and adapts well to "remote".

A rough analogy might be packet switching - if you have to be in the same room with someone and only share data in real time, as opposed to being able to prepare data ahead of time and transmit it over the wire... Which of these is more robust and adaptable to changing network conditions?

splatcollision··on Forget personalisation, it’s impossible and it doesn’t work
Spotify is exactly adtech, they have extremely targeted advertising for their free tier that even takes into account playlist names.
splatcollision··on Elon Musk makes $43B unsolicited bid to take Twitter private
Maybe we'll see less links to unreadable twitter threads posted here. One can only hope!
splatcollision··on Turo Requires a Driver's License Number and Credit Card to Show Full Price
Turo is a haven for scams of all kinds. Renters will offer airport pickup and drop off when you’re buying, but then bait and switch after you’re on the ground, crying about local police enforcement of ride share type airport drop offs. Since their major use case is people on vacation, they are perfectly fine with taking advantage of people in the name of “disruption”. Good riddance. If it seems too good to be true, it is.
splatcollision··on A gentle introduction to vector databases
I've done vector indexes on CouchDB before, because it supports arrays as keys in it's map-reduce implementation. Worked great for fast document similarity search.
