spuz··on The Goose Programming Language
If you've ever been tasked with coming up to speed on a system mostly documented with AI writing, you'll quickly realise how hard it is to trust anything you are reading. Even if the Claude documentation is 100% accurate, you'll never shake the worry that some crucial fact you founded your understanding on was wrong. It's a fast recipe for psychosis.

That's without even mentioning that AI writing can often state the what but not the why. That human perspective is usually the most valuable knowledge to get across in writing.

spuz··on The same AI request emits 8.5 times more CO2 in Texas than in Sweden
I think "people in left wing areas" is weird phrasing. There is nothing inherent about an area that makes it left or right wing. "People who live under governments who are responsive to collective issues such as climate and energy prices" would make more sense.
spuz··on The same AI request emits 8.5 times more CO2 in Texas than in Sweden
A costs less than B so we should do A is hardly a moral argument.
spuz··on Android apps running native on macOS
Why does it matter if it's easy to recognise? I prefer to know when I'm reading AI writing.
spuz··on 8 in 10 Americans oppose live-streaming execution
Then you have to decide what to do for public execution number 2 - do the same again and risk that people become desensitised to what's happening or just go even more violent?
spuz··on The Brain Sandwich
This is the same approach I use. I don't know if it actually produces good results yet as I've only been doing this for about three months. At the very least it feels like I have some agency in my work which I think is one of the things people complain they lose to AI.
spuz··on Krea 3 – An image model built for editing at scale
I don't understand how the rules of the game are being modelled.
spuz··on Why do LLM pelicans look like this?
It's not just a bike specific thing. There is a well known bias - at least in the western world - to want to view motion going from left to right. That's why I mention bias "in our brains".

spuz··on Why do LLM pelicans look like this?
And funnily even in the diverse set, most of the images show the pelican riding from left-to-right. There's a ton of bias in our data and even in our brains that you would need to erase to get true diversity.
spuz··on OpenAI engineer arrested in bugging of executive conference room
Surely your conclusion should be that this was not the work of a spy - not a state sponsored one anyway. It's much more logical to conclude that he was working as a whistleblower or under some other personal agenda.
spuz··on Redesigning source control at Anthropic
You can do that - it's called Spec Driven Development.
spuz··on Sorry, I'm in a meeting
I am missing something about how this could hypothetically be useful. If I played this in the background it would be far too distracting to get any actual work done.
spuz··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
Perhaps it's the moment that the likes of Terence Tao hand over the reins to the likes of Grant Sanderson.
spuz··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
I said this when OpenAI announced they had solved a Millennium prize problem: solving open problems for the sake of it will lose its cachet. AI companies will no longer benefit by making these announcements. They've proven the effectiveness of their tool. If people want to use them to advance human knowledge then let them do that. There's no benefit to humanity to turn electricity into proofs just for the sake of it.
spuz··on SynthID Detector
Yes but OpenAI, NVIDIA, Kakao, Apple have said they will also implement SynthID
spuz··on JetBrains reported a net financial loss first time in its tracked history
Jetbrains IDEs are far from bloated and slow especially compared to electron and chromium based software. Besides - they are still growing in revenue so the financial loss probably isn't due to users jumping ship.
spuz··on A map of every lighthouse
It's almost as if a human had no part in its creation.
spuz··on Court agrees with EFF: Utah's VPN law demands a technical impossibility
As the article explains - this was not an option.

>SB 73 burdens the rights of all internet users outside of Utah because it requires adult websites to either know every visiting user’s physical location, and then block those in Utah, or to verify every visitor’s age just in case they might be in Utah. The law’s “actual-location provision in practice requires an entity to perform age verification services for every user visiting its site from any location because the entity would violate the law if even one of those users happened to be obfuscating,” the court wrote.

In order to withdraw from Utah, they would be forced to block traffic from everywhere since it's possible that some kid in Utah used a VPN to make it look like they lived in Singapore.

spuz··on Gemini 3.8 text-to-speech
Arguably, no AI voice should sound like a human voice:

spuz··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
The decision to force you to sign in to view replies is clearly not by accident or ineptitude. It's probably not malice either - just a business decision.
spuz··on Hackers Had a Live Feed of Every ID Verification Company Scanned for over a Year
Haha, damn not enough caffeine this morning to parse correctly
spuz··on Hackers had a live feed of every ID verification company scanned for over a year
Am I missing something? What do you mean the DMV makes tens of millions of dollars a year selling data to itself?
spuz··on Go grandmaster Shin defeats AI KataGo with a two-stone handicap
What does "on five handicaps" mean? The human received a 5-stone handicap?
spuz··on Unusual Suspects
I can't wait to see how actual artists do with this game.
spuz··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
No, training tends to override system prompts at lot of the time.
spuz··on Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope
I guess for one thing, these launches don't tend to fail and second, they actually do make duplicate missions sometimes. See Voyagers 1 and 2, Spirit and Opportunity and Curiosity and Perseverance.
spuz··on A 3D fruit fly on macOS desktop powered by the real FlyWire connectome
I didn't downvote it but I imagine it's because your comment comes across as manic rambling. You managed to say "it will run in the browser" three times - once is enough. I'd recommend writing out your entire comment then deleting it an rewriting it to be more concise. No we don't expect literature in HN comments but good writing is a courtesy to your readers.
spuz··on Climbing Guide as a Shared Infrastructure
This article seems to be an AI warping of this original article which contains a lot more useful details and screenshots of what the application looks like: https://community.openclimbing.org/d/24-v200-a-big-step-forw...
spuz··on DeepSeek peak/off-peak pricing update
What do you mean? Most providers on OpenRouter offer the same or lower prices than DeepSeek themselves:

https://openrouter.ai/deepseek/deepseek-v4-flash#providers

spuz··on DeepSeek peak/off-peak pricing update
I wonder whether all the DeepSeek providers will follow suit or are they going to try to stay competitive with the old prices?
