spydr··on Professor denounces mass AI fraud on an exam at Brown
I graduated from the University of Washington about 8 years ago. Even then we had to write our code on paper for exams. Every missed semi colon was marked. This isn’t a new practice and I’m surprised more colleges haven’t already been doing this regardless of AI.
spydr··on Isaac Asimov: The Last Question (1956)
All time favorite game. It lives rent free in my head but I can’t replay it! I would to just watch someone play it.
spydr··on 15 years later, Microsoft morged my diagram
It actually revered the direction of the time

> do you care about who your actions might affect

This one surprises me every time I fly. When I have the aisle seat I can be up and out in 10 seconds. It seems to make like everyone else will plop down , place down 3 different liquids on the tray and then take a nap. When I ask to use the bathroom I end up feeling like a nuisance

spydr··on Microsoft May Have Created the Slowest Windows in 25 Years with Windows 11
The computers they give us at work are pretty powerful. Mine has 64 gigs of ram. When I power it on the fans instantly go into full blast mode because the computer is heating up. why? I have no idea I just run Edge and Teams, if I try to use VS my computer will crash. At home I use Mac and Linux (kububtu) and will never have windows on my devices again
spydr··on Microsoft May Have Created the Slowest Windows in 25 Years with Windows 11
I have the computer they handed me 3 years ago still. As soon as it powers on the fans go into full gear. Almost nothing running, just Edge. If I have VS on the thing hate crashes. 64gb ram

I think cows get to much blame

spydr··on Size of Life
The Japanese spider crab being the same size as a tiger shocked me.
spydr··on Nobody cares
As much as I would love to be a Leslie Knope, by the time I’ve allotted all my caring to the things in life that keep me employed , fed , housed, and ad hoc family requests, I don’t have the capacity to care about much more. I really wish I did ,but because I have a limited “care bucket” , most of it is going to a bunch of insignificant BS. What the author noticed I notice a lot too , but I think that is because I am someone who actually tries to engineer better solutions to problems. I’ve noticed a “good enough” attitude in almost all aspects of my life and it’s frustrating.
spydr··on The Headlight Brightness Wars
Is your comment about SUVs simple because you notice this issue is more prevalent in taller cars or because you don’t like them for other reasons? I myself have not noticed this correlation. Some of the time it’s after market crap the owner didn’t bother to adjust properly, but most of the time it’s newer cars such as Teslas where see this issue , and the sedans are fairly low to the ground
spydr··on Show HN: I created a self-typing typewriter (and connected it to an LLM)
Connecting old tech to new tech is awesome, I love this idea.
spydr··on Tiny number of 'supersharers' spread the majority of fake news
A lot of the “fake news” in circulation about Covid turned out to be true. Oh how some of this info was shut down, from twitter and Facebook removing them , to news outlets reporting on them. How do you decide what is fake news and what is something that we just got wrong and a small group of people are pointing out?
spydr··on California spent $17B on homelessness – it’s not working
In Seattle where I live, homeless is definitely the result of drug use
spydr··on TV doctors say annual checkups save lives – real doctors call bullshit (2016)
About a year ago I went in for a regular checkup after my wife reminded me I had not had one. I thought, I’m 25 don’t really need one. Turns out my blood cell count was slightly elevated. 2 months later I do another test, it’s off the charts. Turns out I randomly developed leukemia. 11 months of chemo later, and I’m in remission. Not sure what would have happened if we had not caught it so early.

I’m using safari and I can’t figure out how to use this. The page seems static and there no no clickable buttons
spydr··on Amazon starts flagging frequently returned products that you maybe shouldn’t buy
I was surprised to see this product when I clicked the link. I recently bought one of these and ended up cracking my whole windshield trying to fix a small chip
spydr··on Frequent fliers are a problem for the planet. Should they pay more?
Perhaps the Uber rich can take a break from taking their private jet to lunch instead.
spydr··on Show HN: A Simple Memory Game
I thought about including that , wanted to get some feedback on it to see if it’s worth the effort
spydr··on Ask HN: Who is looking for help on a project?
Im fairly familiar with the whole stack (but I constantly feel like it’s only a beginner understand).

Mostly React(Js, html css), Java, Spring Boot, SQL Server, Python. I also dabble with Unity(C#) and have some experience in C++.

I’m sort of stuck in a position at work where I’m developing my security / network skills but not so much software development so any skills I want to improve I have to do outside of work.

spydr··on Treating beef like coal would make a big dent in greenhouse-gas emissions

spydr··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
So you actually find it difficult? I am a native Russian speaker and have also taken 3 quarters of Russian in college. Compared to English I found the grammar much easier to understand. A word is read exactly how you would sound out each letter (with a few exceptions). Ukrainian grammar is even more simple.
