standardhuman··on Ask HN: What Happened in DNSSEC Yesterday?
I suspect you ran into complications from the DNS root key rollover. There's a bit more on that here: https://blog.cloudflare.com/root-ksk-2024-rollover/

And a tool for checking readiness: https://dnstest.dev/ksk-2024/

standardhuman··on Talk Like a Texan: How Texans Use “Down,” “Out,” “Over,” and “Up”
I came up to Cambridge in 2004 and was at Oxford before that. I can confirm that both places use it in this sense. :) That said, I've also noticed that many of my friends from those years still use "up" when simply visiting Oxford or Cambridge, and I do get the odd alumni e-mail inviting me to come "up" to Cambridge (not sure if this is unique to a secretary at Clare, or more widely used).
standardhuman··on Nullsoft: The death of the last maverick tech company (2004)
I recently encountered an episode of the Internet History Podcast that featured a long interview with Frankel. It touches on many of the points in the Slate article (working relationship at AOL, end of Nullsoft, etc.), and was recorded in 2015. Might be a nice companion to the article for those looking for a little more insight: http://www.internethistorypodcast.com/2015/07/justin-frankel...
standardhuman··on The Apple Goes Mushy Part I: OS X's Interface Decline
On the first point, you can just open Safari's preferences, head to the Advanced tab, and "show full website address." This is one of the first things I do, as I also dislike this behavior. :)
standardhuman··on GPG signature verification
No problem. :) I'm glad it worked out for you!
standardhuman··on GPG signature verification
For what it's worth, I had that same error message (OS X), and I managed to fix it. After using homebrew to make sure my git was up-to-date and gpg was also installed correctly, I told git where gpg is (for some reason, despite being in my PATH, it wasn't registering?): git config --global gpg.program /usr/local/bin/gpg

After that, I had to make a tweak to gpg so I didn't get another annoying error. In ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf, adding 'no-tty' got everything working smoothly.

I agree that that was way too tedious, but it did work out. :)
