stemchar··on Remove pgrust: the entry is cheating (per-query kernels and result caching)
The way it has been defended and talked about here, yeah, I did. It wasn't just a "here's this vibe slop, do what you wish" dump.

Oh lord. I thought pgrust was a serious project.
stemchar··on The cost of lies: A Mineserver story
I've hosted a Minecraft server, reading this I immediately thought that a Pi was just not powerful enough to do an adequate job at running one. Perhaps they figured that out once it was too late?
stemchar··on Postgres SELECT DISTINCT Does Not Scale
It's Stonebraker, he has a history of doing this to sell shit to people who don't need it.
stemchar··on Grok Build is open source
That doesn't sound like it would require a lot of code.
stemchar··on Anthropic says Alibaba illicitly extracted Claude AI model capabilities
"The settlement"? Not gonna cut it.
stemchar··on I design with Claude more than Figma now
Damn prompt engineering has become an art already. No wonder so many people have been left behind.
stemchar··on The worst job interview I ever had
I probably would've done the same. "I don't remember what the function is called" would've been fine-ish, but reaching for a regex is just insane.
stemchar··on An OpenAI model has disproved a central conjecture in discrete geometry
This doesn't sound correct. Source?
stemchar··on Sqldef: Idempotent schema management tool for MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite
> Personally I've always called this style "declarative schema management" since the input declares the desired state, and the tool figures out how to transition the database to that state.

Personally I've called it a mistake, since there's no way a tool can infer what happened based on that information.

stemchar··on Sqldef: Idempotent schema management tool for MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite
I renamed a column and it added a new one.

> If you use streaming replication (ie. WAL shipping over the replication connection), a single replica getting really far behind can eventually cause the primary to block writes. Some time back I commented on the behaviour: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45758543

I'd like to know more, since I don't understand how this could happen. When you say "block", what do you mean exactly?
